Aibu to think that actually they have been told to jog on ... After all, change is coming with a slimmed down monarchy and they are now too much of a spare to count.

No they've just decided to bugger off and live a life of luxury by themselves.

SanAntonio · 08/01/2020 19:26

Oh lets have yet another thread so that people can spout racist and xenophobic crap.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 08/01/2020 19:27

the Edward and Wallis Simpson of our time. Hmm

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 08/01/2020 19:27

There are now about 40 threads for this.

Amanduh · 08/01/2020 19:28

They’re not doing it by themselves though are they? They still want the titles, the fame and the money to carry on their own royal ‘brand’ ....

Tombliwho · 08/01/2020 19:29

Yet another thread

Peterspotter · 08/01/2020 19:29

There is already a thread going on this

Changingforthisnow · 08/01/2020 19:29

Not at all. It’s nothing to do with race. It’s to do with the fact that in a generation, once the Cambridge’s kids reproduce and even before they are not relevant. I was commenting more that they have been given a good way out.

YABU to start yet another thread.

awaynboilyurheid · 08/01/2020 19:33

Not the biggest royalist, but I used to like Harry and Megan but after Megan’s complaining about their lives and said they were “just existing “ when she was in Africa I re ally could not beleive their lack of awareness of the real world. Wish them all the luck if it makes them happy but hope they will completely pay their own way including security as we should not be giving them any financial help if they do step away.

Bluerussian · 08/01/2020 19:33

They're absolutely nothing like the Duke and Duchess of Windsor.

I haven't heard they've definitely decided to go, just rumours.

I wouldn't blame them when you consider how the media have twisted so much about them since their wedding before which they were fawned over; there's only so much anyone can take but I would like them to stick it out a bit longer.

They have plenty of money, aren't dependent on the Queen or civil service so wherever they choose to live, if they do leave the UK, they can be independent and free to be involved in any project that captures their interest. They'll still visit here. Meghan could go back to acting if she wanted, I've wondered if she has missed that.

SquareAsABlock · 08/01/2020 19:34

and even before they are not relevant

I disagree, and I'm a republican. He's the only sibling of the future king, if William decides to abdicate (which I know is highly unlikely but still) then Harry becomes second in line to the throne. That's not insignificant, he's always been a 'true royal' as opposed to the children of Andrew, Anne and Edward.

As it is, I think they have both made a very sensible decision. To be honest, if my spouse had received the vitriol and racism that Meghan has I'd run the fuck away with my family as well.

Rubyupbeat · 08/01/2020 19:35

As long as they self support, then good on them.

Butterymuffin · 08/01/2020 19:36

He isn't next in line after William. That's George now. Then Charlotte and Louis. They won't all abdicate. Harry won't be king.

Scapegoatforlife · 08/01/2020 19:38

@SquareAsABlock you're wrong.

It goes Charles- will - all of his kids - then harry.

SebandAlice · 08/01/2020 19:41

There is nothing that they can do right in the eyes of some. I don’t blame them at all and would do the same.

OP posts:
SquareAsABlock · 08/01/2020 19:47

@Scapegoatforlife, I know it's Charles first, but everyone knows his reign will not a be a long one. Regardless, if William decided to abdicate then that would strip his children of all rights to the throne as well. Or William's children may not have kids themselves, who knows? It's all if and buts, it doesn't mean that Harry was or is an 'insignificant royal' regardless.

Greydove28 · 08/01/2020 19:50

Oh my! Im in shock. Can't believe it. Hope the rumour of the rift between him and his brother isnt true. That's sad.

CandlesBlanketsandTea · 08/01/2020 19:52

Every other day there is a new thread on the Sussex's bashing them, threads and articles scattered with racism. I think it makes sense for them to do this. Honestly I'd love it if the whole lot of them stepped down and we became a republic. I'm still furious that our taxes paid for Prince Andrew to visit Epstein a convicted paedophile. I'm disgusted that Andrew hasn't been stripped of every title and thrown out of his palace. I'm equally disgusted that he hasn't helped the police in their investigation. I'm heartbroken for the women who endured those horrific crimes but yeah let's get upset about something that's been on the cards for a while Hmm

BoxedWine · 08/01/2020 19:52

I wouldn't have thought so. If they're on a slimming down exercise, the person who's only one car or plane accident away from being future king isn't the most obvious candidate. I think it's more likely they've just decided pissing off and living off their own substantial funds is a better gig.

Livelovebehappy · 08/01/2020 19:54

Good for them. It’s pretty much a daily circus being a royal. And they’ve had lots of unfair criticism. As long as going it alone means self supporting financially, I say good luck to them.

CandlesBlanketsandTea · 08/01/2020 19:55

@SquareAsABlock let's hope they all abdicate and we won't have to worry about an antiquated relic of an institution.

astralweaks · 08/01/2020 19:55

It’s Sussexes.

CandlesBlanketsandTea · 08/01/2020 19:56

@astralweaks I almost wrote that and second guessed my way out of it.
