Cups of coffee

AIBU to ask you how much coffee or tea you drink per day?

Also, if you feel you need it in the morning to properly wake up?

I drink x3 cups of coffee a day. Sometimes have a tea although not everyday.

Probably way too much.
Start every morning with cup of tea.
Then 2-3 coffees
about 5 more teas throughout day and evening, occasionally swapped for a coffee

On average 8-10 per day - mostly tea.

unbaffled · 08/01/2020 13:54

Cup of tea first thing, then 2 or 3 coffees during the morning. Then tea again in the afternoon. I used to have coffee in the evenings, but it started keeping me awake, so I have decaff now.

CatteStreet · 08/01/2020 13:55

On a typical weekday:

One cup of coffee first thing, usually around 6.30-7am.

Second one at work during the morning - sometimes straight after dropping dd (I WFH), sometimes late morning.

Cup of tea in the afternoon after pick-up. Sometimes a second one while cooking dinner, but usually only one.

Cup of tea (sometimes decaf but caffeinated doesn't stop me sleeping) in bed in the evening.

AFemaleWoman · 08/01/2020 13:56

About 15 to 20 until recently, I'm down to about 10 to 15 max and plan to get to no more than five.

I'm really trying to cut down. I don't think I'll ever give it up totally but would like to get where I'm only having a couple of mugs a day.

I used to want one as soon as I woke up but it's now an hour or so before I have one. I quit smoking in 2017 and found that a price of puss with the Alan Carr book, I'm finding reducing caffeine very difficult to be honest.

CatteStreet · 08/01/2020 13:58

Re the needing it to wake up - it helps, but it's more psychological than physical, I think. When I'm ill I go off coffee, and often tea too, and I do notice after a while (after recovering, when I haven't got the taste for them back yet) that I am more tired than usual without.

blueheaven97 · 08/01/2020 13:59

Four or five cups of tea a day (normally decaf). I hate the staining on my teeth from it, though. My dentist told me to follow every cup of tea with a drink of water, but it hasn't really made much difference.

bluebluezoo · 08/01/2020 13:59

It varies. If I’m at home and doing boring stuff i’ll drink a lot to break things up, and also to stop me looking in the fridge for something to eat.

If i’m at work i don’t bother, although sometimes if very early I’ll take a cup in lieu of breakfast as I can’t eat at that time but feel better with something in my stomach.

BillHadersNewWife · 08/01/2020 14:01

Have to have coffee immediately. Grind the beans and make it in a stovetop thing...have about 2-3 of those before midday and then on to tea. Have about 3 teas per day.

Syncplug · 08/01/2020 14:05

I have one cup of coffee most days, usually first thing after working out but before eating breakfast, if it's later in the day I'll have a decaf. I like the taste and sometimes feel it does help wake me up in the mornings, could go without it though.

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 08/01/2020 14:06

I know so many people around my age or younger who don't drink hot drinks at all! It's so bizarre as I do find them very comforting as others have said.

I usually have a very strong tea when I get to work, and some days a decaf tea in the evening. I wouldn't say they make me feel any more awake but I do crave a brew in the morning.

In the summer I'm all over an iced latte but don't really drink hot coffee at all.

IncrediblySadToo · 08/01/2020 14:07

Usually two cups of coffee in the morning

More if I go out, I very rarely drink coffee after 2:30 as I sleep badly anyway & coffee after seems to make it worse, but not always.

Tea - I gin through phases, but I drink it black & very very weak - just a slight dip if a tea bag in hot water. Often I just drink hot water.

I also drink a lot of cold water.

No juices/squash/fizzy etc - unless it accompanies alcohol! & I usually drink wine instead.

BlackInk · 08/01/2020 14:07

BIG cup of tea on waking.
Cup of tea with breakfast.
Cup of coffee mid-morning -- sometimes instant, sometimes will buy a latte or a flat white.
Cup of tea mid-afternoon.

This can vary a bit from day to day, might skip one or add one. But the morning tea never changes. I drink it in bed and it gives me time to wake up and feel human. I NEED that one but the others are more because it's comforting, I enjoy the taste and it's sociable.

Skyejuly · 08/01/2020 14:08

2x small or 1 large tea before waking up properly. Then 3 or 4 throughout the day

eatyourcake · 08/01/2020 14:09

Used to drink 1 cup of coffee at 9am, and if I missed it by more than half hour I'd get a horrendous headache. Same for the 3pm cup. I'm sensitive like that :) This lasted for 5-6 years, then I decided I'm done with this, quit, went through awful withdrawal, 2 weeks of headaches, now it's been 1 year of only decaf coffee, 1-2 per day, and maybe 1 weak cup of tea. Once I got rid of the dependency, no longer felt like I needed coffee to wake up, I do still like the taste and smell of it so much, so decaf it is.

envi · 08/01/2020 14:09

I always have one strong cup of coffee in the morning and sometimes another one during the day. And 1 or 2 cups of tea, depends on my mood

Lozz22 · 08/01/2020 14:12

1 coffee at my first call, tea or coffee at my 3rd call one on my break and either a cup of tea, a herbal tea or hot chocolate before I go to bed. That's all I drink and probably also the reason why I suffer from recurrent kidney infections but I just can't drink anymore

MinkowskisButterfly · 08/01/2020 14:13

I cant function without in a morning, my head is foggy.

I am trying to drink less now, mixing it up with hot Ribena Winter Spice. So today so far I have had 3 coffees and 1 Ribena and a glass of water in place of coffees. I have been up since 7. I will have another when I get back from.school run, another with my dinner, one/two in the evening whilst studying. I may have another couple on that as well whilst watching tv.

KitKat1985 · 08/01/2020 14:14

About 4-5 mugs of tea a day. And I don't function in the morning until I've had my first cuppa!

Frariedeamin · 08/01/2020 14:16

Usually 10 cups of tea. However I am recovering from a broken bone and advised to avoid caffeine so currently 0! Crown Sad

DramaAlpaca · 08/01/2020 14:18

I only drink about one cup of coffee a week at the most, and it has to be before 2pm. After that it stops me sleeping. I can feel my heart rate going faster within half an hour of drinking coffee and it takes hours to wear off. It means that when I have coffee it's a real treat.

Tea, though... I love tea. I must drink 7 or 8 mugs a day at least.

Baaaahhhhh · 08/01/2020 14:19

Big cup of latte first thing, seem to "need" it, but that could just be habit. Then another mid morning. Switch to a tea mid afternoon, and then sometimes one before bed. So, only 2 of each every day. Sometimes they are the only things I drink in a day, very bad I know Blush.

Baaaahhhhh · 08/01/2020 14:20

Just realised I have only had 2 cups of coffee so far today...... thanks for the reminder..... goes off to get a glass of water (and a cup of tea).

WhatALearningCurve · 08/01/2020 14:20

Literally had a conversation with my friends this morning about tea and coffee and they were all in shock about the fact I don't drink either of them

FenellaVelour · 08/01/2020 14:20

None.
Very, very occasionally I drink tea. Never coffee.

TheGirlFromStoryville · 08/01/2020 14:21

I have a cup of strong black coffee when I first get up. May have another one if I'm tired.
Sometimes have another cup around 3.30.

That's all I have. Don't ever drink tea, yuk.
I've always drank coffee black. I used to drink a lot more but replaced it with water, at least 3 litres a day.
