To get a Sholley

DecomposingRat · 07/01/2020 20:38

I keep seeing these and think how handy they look, I live five minutes from a supermarket and could pick up a decent amount of shopping without a car with one. But I am early 40s and all the sholley owners appear to be 70+ and the sholleys are tartan. Would it be strange to get one and has anyone relatively young got experience of one?

they are called 'heel porsche' (hackenporsche) in german.
go for it.
I really like the look of the reisenthel ones,

stripeypillowcase · 07/01/2020 20:40

(I have one, don't have a car and I like not having to carry a full shop)

Clevererthanyou · 07/01/2020 20:43

I’ve had one since my early twenties 😎 in a multitude of colours. I even ironed on a patch that said ‘Badass’ (Cheers DH Grin) Go for it, makes life easier.

YouTheCat · 07/01/2020 20:46

My dd bought me one (with cats on) as a joke present for my 50th last August. I've used it a few times and it's very handy.

Ginkypig · 07/01/2020 20:47

What's a sholly? Blush

Is it the bag with the frame and wheels?

If so I have one (not tartan) and I love it but only use it when I know Iv got a lot of heavy stuff to get.

The only thing is though that it can be awkward with a trolley or a buggy.

Thislittlepiggywentto · 07/01/2020 20:48

Got one and love it. Get the p absolutely ripped out of me by mates but have no cares. I'm usually them asked to carry some of their stuff...

You can get some very nice ones.

Last time I went to London I saw lots of younger people with them, incredibly trendy types!

ArchMemory · 07/01/2020 20:49

I’m sorry OP. In your early 40s I think it’s too soon.

And I’ve never heard them called sholleys.

Whycantibetangy · 07/01/2020 20:53

I’ve had one since my twenties! Bright blue with massive psycho hippy flowers all over it Grin

Yousicktwistedfruit · 07/01/2020 20:53

I’ve just turned 30 I have a sholley it’s brilliant really handy for doing my shopping I have been using them for years. Get one they help massively.

ThePortlyPinUp · 07/01/2020 20:54

I'm 37 and a tattooed rockabilly and I roll mine round the shops with pride. It's made so many shopping trips so much easier.

Shosha1 · 07/01/2020 20:54

I have one. Have had it since my 40s now almost 60. Love it. So do my DDIL and her friends. Surprising how many offer to take me shopping now I cant go on my own ( now disabled). Its not me they want it's my Sholley!. Especially for the Christmas markets 😁😁😁😁😁

minniemoll · 07/01/2020 20:56

I'm 49 and I've had one for a few years - it's grey with a green leaf pattern and a green handle and is reasonably funky. It's also insulated which is handy. I actually use it most when it's snowy and I don't want to risk taking the car out on our steep and icy roads but don't want to try and walk with shopping bags.

I love the name sholley (presumably short for shopping trolley), I'll be adopting it from now on!

bridgetreilly · 07/01/2020 21:08

They're called shopping trolleys. YABU to want a "sholley". Ugh.

Thislittlepiggywentto · 07/01/2020 21:10

I should add I'm in my 30s.

exWifebeginsAgainat46 · 07/01/2020 21:10

i have a hoppa with flamingos on it. am 46 with arthritis - it’s a game-changer.

obviously, i never make eye contact with anyone whilst i’m dragging it about, but still. a worthwhile investment.

30not13 · 07/01/2020 21:13

Sholleys are the metal framed ones you push in front of you.
If you mean those then noooo.

The funky pull along behind you ones... yes!

Ginkypig · 07/01/2020 21:16

Ah ok I don't have a push along one, I have a pull along one

PigeonPie · 07/01/2020 21:16

My sholley has done a lot of miles over the years. I needed it to keep me upright once I didn't have the push chair and was a godsend when the DSs were at primary school to dump all the PE kits and lunch boxes in. It now lives in the garage as I don't use it every day, but I still use it for trips to the bottle bank (gently clanking). Also use it for long shopping trips.

Just wish it had a seat on!

Anyway YANBU - I wouldn't be without mine (a plain blue one - no tartan here!).

user1473878824 · 07/01/2020 21:17

heel porsche!!!!!!

UndertheCedartree · 07/01/2020 21:21

I have a hoppa that you pull behind you - it is not tartan. To be honest I know lots of non-OAPs that have them - don't think anyone would bat an eyelid.

Clevererthanyou · 07/01/2020 21:22

@ArchMemory Genuinely curious, how is the op too young to use a shopping trolley? They’re not operated with a pension book are they? If someone needs assistance to shop safely then they should use one surely? It beats having six bags in each hand cutting off your circulation Sad

JustMarriedBecca · 07/01/2020 21:30

I had one when we lived in London. See them all the time in East London / trendy Shoreditch

Thought they were hip now with the young bearded folk.

Notcontent · 07/01/2020 21:31

In London you see lots of young people with the pull along ones - because lots of people don’t have cars.

Ilovemyshoppingtrolley · 07/01/2020 21:34

I have one and love it hence my username Grin

Roselilly36 · 07/01/2020 21:42

what about a Carlett 460, push rather than pull style shopping trolley, a bit like a pushchair in design, good quality and trendy.
