Yes this type of thread is done to death but I still love em
Mine are
Pickled garlic straight out the jar (have to discipline myself as they have a laxative effect after a point which I tend to forget)
Salad cream on chips, mash and as per pp mac cheese & garlic bread I don’t like lasagne
Quorn deli slices as sort of “bread less” sandwiches - slice of deli whatever, slice of gherkin, couple olives, sundried tomatoes, plastic cheese (not usually all together but a combination of usually 3 of these) rolled up into a savoury treat - gone in 2 mouthfuls!
Instant mash - to which i add depending on mood - cheddar, butter, marmite, garlic salt, salad cream, Henderson’s relish, ketchup, baked beans, tinned sweetcorn, tinned spaghetti... quick easy and occasionally actually nutritious meal with minimal washing up
Yes to egg mayo sandwiches made with salad cream. Any sue grafton (rip) fans will also be familiar with the hot egg sandwiches Kinsey made 😪
Apple slices or celery sticks dipped in peanut butter
I’ve mentioned a few times on mn recently about we got Chucky eggs (boiled eggs mashed with butter and a little salt in a cup) when ill as a kid and I still like it now - this also works with salad cream.
Sliced cheddar cheese on malt loaf
Jam “sandwiches” but made with biscuits - either digestives or rich tea - instead of bread
A lot of these as always on these threads if you go back to ancient food combinations aren’t actually new - honey and cheese, Jam and cheese, bacon/ham with preserves in particular
I lived overseas for a time and I’m quite adventurous food wise but I must admit there were a few things I did need to buy from the on base shop (they used to be naafi but not any more sadly) among them were:
Salad cream
Marmite
Uk white bread for toast
Baked beans (supposedly available in many other countries but they’re not the same as the ones here)
Tea bags (of course)
But there’s also now a LOAD of foods I miss from then that were particular to the countries I was living in plus American stuff which we could get from the American bases (their equivalent of naafi).
