Urgh! Most definately not a period troll!... But literally just been to the toilet whilst on 2nd day of period (realised no toilet roll - thanks everyone else in household for not replacing it 🙄). Loads running through my head from work today, so just auto pilot figured I'd leave tampon in place whilst flumped downstairs to pick up new rolls. Wandered back to backroom sighing, sat back down, replaced tampon, and then 'gaaah! gaaah! The did I actually remove last one question?!'. Had a good rummage 😳 but now laid back in bed freaking out about toxic shock syndrome. I'm at work at 8am so no chance of an emergency appt at the GP, and frankly questioning did I remove it or not? Obviously not a question anyone else can answer! 😒 I'm just feeling very unhappy currently. I doubt I'll sleep well tonight, and feel like the world's biggest moron!

For those of you who are ‘baffled’...

Have you ever given birth?

You basically shit a bowling ball out of your vagina.

A tampon’s like a ping pong ball in comparison.

I had a retained tampon for 3 weeks OP. I lived! Very embarrassing at the GPs though!

Newname1978 · 07/01/2020 07:07

Did u get it?

Changingforthisthread · 07/01/2020 07:18

Yes I remember that episode of the Bill. I left a tampon in once at the end of a period and it eventually slipped out on its own whilst I was showering and gave me a bit of a shock.

At the very start of your post you’ve been given advice by someone who sounds like they work for 111 or A&E to squat and check yet you seem to be ignoring that completely.

GrandmaSharksDentures · 07/01/2020 07:31

I work in an Urgent Care Centre & it falls to me to go "searching" in these situations. In my experience the vast majority of "objects" have already been removed. Unless women know I'm for sure a tampon is in there, it has usually been removed & forgotten about

MashedSpud · 07/01/2020 07:36

I stopped using them years ago when women were dying because of them.

Do they still have strings? I’m also a bit baffled I admit.

Aren’t women’s lives at risk over this and why aren’t the companies doing something to stop this from happening?

FagAsh · 07/01/2020 07:40

I once found two! Admittedly I was on a three day bender and not the most observant teenager.... 30 years ago... Beyond revolting Grin

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 07/01/2020 15:53

However, I will acknowledge a slightly titled uterus

The Honourable Ms Uterus? How common, OP, mine's a c(o)untess donchyerknow.

WhoWants2Know · 07/01/2020 18:27

Lol at "titled"

ActualHornist · 07/01/2020 18:54

I had one in for two weeks plus once. The stench was obscene. I only realised when I was having to wash the couch cushions because of the stench Blush

Squat, bear down and rummage. You’ll find it.

Kelsoooo · 07/01/2020 18:56

Also lost one! I was fucking terrified. I didn't know I'd lost one. Was just...eem well, you know. And felt this weird thing. Thought I had cancer 🙈 told DH who, whilst trying not to vomit/laugh told me to double check I'd removed my tampon from when I'd been in my period.

Did the squat thing, felt around and bam. Out this vile, smelly thing came.

Also have a tilted uterous/cervix.

tillytrotter1 · 07/01/2020 19:01

Oh God, I recall going to the Doctor, who were knew socially too, as I had an unpleasant smell, when he examined me he pulled out an old stinking tampon, so embarrassing!

Greenglassteacup · 07/01/2020 19:02

Haven’t you tried the squat and bear down OP? Surely it would reveal itself then?

RuffleCrow · 07/01/2020 19:06

I've never been so grateful that tampons are madly uncomfortable for me and always have been. I can always feel them no matter how i insert.

Gynaegirl · 07/01/2020 19:08

Gynae nurse here, I've seen women with retained tampons that they've forgotten about for weeks. They attend with an offensive discharge and on examination an old tampon is retrieved. GPs and practice nurses will have dealt with this problem frequently.

BryonyG · 07/01/2020 19:18

No help to the OP, sorry, but I remember the WPC with toxic shock on TV - I was sure it was Casualty though. I stand corrected!

cheninblanc · 07/01/2020 19:18

I had one fall out once in shopping centre (not on the floor) - a week after my period finished 😳

Thefaceofboe · 07/01/2020 19:23

op this happened to me over Christmas after a few too many wines. I couldn’t remember removing the last one and was worried I’d just shoved another up. I had a rummage and didn’t find anything hahaConfused

If you are really worried visit a&e x

Moonflower12 · 07/01/2020 19:30

I managed to loose a condom that had slipped off and despite the squat thing and bearing down like mad, it was beyond my finger tips. So I went to the local minor injuries where it was retrieved.
A few weeks later, I go to the nurse due to a horrible smell and discharge, ( she is the nurse from minor injuries). She eventually retrieves a vile forgotten tampon.

I then go back a few days later, due to a chest infection. She greets me with a cheery 'And what are we retrieving from your vagina today?'

Such a relief to say it was my chest!

NChangeForNoReason · 07/01/2020 19:44

I need to know how this ends OP!!!

christmasstress · 07/01/2020 19:46

@Dogno1 I need an update here!!!

TitsInAbsentia · 07/01/2020 19:47

@Moonflower12 Grin you are now a legend there whether you like it or not!

soloula · 07/01/2020 19:48

Yes the WPC was Casualty and is the reason I've never worn a tampon in my whole life. Terrified the shit of me just before I started my periods.

Hope all is well OP!

barbedwired · 07/01/2020 19:49

I forgot for two weeks once. I became aware of an unpleasant whiff that seemed to follow me around.

When I pulled it out it was green 🤢

Pardonwhat · 07/01/2020 19:52

I once went fishing for a lost tampon, found the string, pulled and out came my coil Blush
I’d removed the tampon the night before.

Monty27 · 07/01/2020 19:52

I 'gave birth' to a very old tampon once. I of course had no idea it was there until whilst in the loo it expelled itself. The stench was shocking.
I've lived to tell the tale.
Do squats as advised. Good luck
