Taking light bulbs from old house to new house

EasterBun2001 · 05/01/2020 09:46

When we bought our first home we invested in LED lightbulbs throughout which are not cheap but have paid for themselves in ridiculously low energy bills.

Now looking at moving, my sensible head wants to bring the bulbs with me but I feel like this would be unreasonable for anyone moving in.

What would you do?

Leave the bulbs!

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 05/01/2020 09:47

Don’t be a fadge, leave the bulbs. They’re fixtures and fittings.

Robstersgirl · 05/01/2020 09:47

Buy cheap bulbs.

stripeypillowcase · 05/01/2020 09:48

we did.
we took our hue and led with us but of course left (cheap) functional bulbs in the house.

PeakingDuck · 05/01/2020 09:48

Surely you take the expensive LED and replace with standard, so the new owners at least have light?

That’s what I’d do.

RozHuntleysStump · 05/01/2020 09:48

Replace them with cheapo ones if you're that bothered.

DuchessofManchester · 05/01/2020 09:48

Please don't be that person who takes the bulbs with them.
How would you feel on moving day if you turned up at your new home and had no lights?

Disfordarkchocolate · 05/01/2020 09:48

Bloody hell you're tight. Leave the bulbs.

Menora · 05/01/2020 09:49

At least replace them with cheaper bulbs. I moved in to my house I didn’t have a single bulb and they were all of those pin E27 bulbs, I live in a village and the nearest Homebase didn’t have any that fit I had to Order them online and use lamps in the meantime! I think it’s really mean to take lightbulbs and leave nothing

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 05/01/2020 09:49

Take them if you want, but don't leave them with no bulbs! Replace them first

KatherineJaneway · 05/01/2020 09:49

Take your bulbs, buy cheap ones to replace them.

Menora · 05/01/2020 09:49

*four pin

Teachermaths · 05/01/2020 09:50

Take yours but put cheap ones in.

Sicario · 05/01/2020 09:50

The arsehole who we bought our house from took all the lightbulbs, most of the door handles, and was even pulling up the carpet from the stairs 2 hours after the sale had completed! We had to literally bang on the door and tell him to get out. The mess he left was unbelievable.

Raindancer411 · 05/01/2020 09:51

You have to leave working lights so replace with cheap bulbs

ipswichwitch · 05/01/2020 09:51

If you must take them at least replace with cheaper bulbs. When I moved house in December once I mightily cursed the vendor who took all the bulbs, leaving me with no lights on a day the sun went down at half 3! I cursed them all the way to the shops and back

Squirrelblanket · 05/01/2020 09:52

We just bought a single LED bulb for our bedroom. It was £12.99. I would take the bulbs! But leave cheap ones in for the new owners.

fromcitytocountry · 05/01/2020 09:52

No you're not unreasonable to take the expensive bulbs but do replace them with a cheaper alternative

Aridane · 05/01/2020 09:52

Take them

EasterBun2001 · 05/01/2020 09:52

Thank you Mumsnet - I will replace with cheap ones (don't know why I didn't even think of that). Just asking as our first home was a repossession so there was literally nothing when we got the keys....I dont know what's 'normal' !

OP posts:
BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 05/01/2020 09:53

Just put cheaper ones in and take your ones as long as the fittings are the same?!

SciFiRules · 05/01/2020 09:53

Led bulbs are now a lot cheaper than they were too. So the economy of taking them and leaving someone in the dark isn't great either.

Dieu · 05/01/2020 09:54

Cringe.
Either leave them or replace with cheap.

Ginfordinner · 05/01/2020 09:54

If you must take them at least replace the ones you removed. I think working lights are under fixtures and fittings so you have to leave some means of lighting behind.

Bluntness100 · 05/01/2020 09:54

We had someone do this to us, proper pain in the ass. Got the keys one dark evening and thought there had been a power cut.

As a pp said, don't be that person who even takes the bulbs.
