Taking light bulbs from old house to new house

When we bought our first home we invested in LED lightbulbs throughout which are not cheap but have paid for themselves in ridiculously low energy bills.

Now looking at moving, my sensible head wants to bring the bulbs with me but I feel like this would be unreasonable for anyone moving in.

What would you do?

@armitasp

Some people on here saying it is mean perhaps don't realize some bulbs aren't cheap. I have some Philips Hue bulbs and some Plumen bulbs. Google Plumen bulbs and see how expensive they are. I would take them with me and replace them with some standard CFLs if I moved house.

Plumen bulbs! PAH. I piss over your Plumen bulbs.

We have one of these in every room in the house. Anyone who has anything less is a peasant of the highest order. Wink

Seriously armitasp I bet you're wishing you hadn't bragged about this now eh? Grin

Here is my hall lights.
I have the same upstairs.
The bulbs come on automatically when you walk into the hall. They are set to dim after 11pm.
The bulbs cost £14 each.

I’d take the bulbs.

@TigerOnATrain that is awesome :-D

rwalker · 05/01/2020 10:41

replace them with pound shop bulbs

Thegingerpig · 05/01/2020 10:45

You must have paid thousands for your new property including stamp duty, solicitors fees, moving costs etc. It just seems incredibly tight to take the lightbulbs with you, penny pinching to the extreme no matter how much you paid for them! Let the new owners enjoy them.

SirVixofVixHall · 05/01/2020 10:47

We turned up to our new house, when I was 11, all bulbs gone, and bulb sockets cut off . My mother cried.

okiedokieme · 05/01/2020 10:48

Legally you must leave bulbs but not special ones unless it's listed in the description or fixtures and fittings list (same goes for light fittings)

maddy68 · 05/01/2020 10:49

You don't take the bulbs!!!!

emilybrontescorsett · 05/01/2020 10:50

Just spoken to dh and out hall light bulb cost £15!!!!
Bloody hell I wouldn't leave that!
It 's one that Alexa can control by voice control.

Rewilo · 05/01/2020 10:50

When I bought this house, the owner took every bulb and every tap Hmm and did a hodge podge job attaching his replacement taps so had to get a plumber in afterwards and took a bunch of other stuff that no reasonable person takes.
Just found it ridiculously tight. If you've got some smart bulbs, take them, but shouldn't need mumsnet to tell you to replace them so the person who bought your house isn't moving in, into a dark house.

Are you actually serious? I’m in the process of buying a house with LED lights throughout, I would have been extremely pissed off if they removed the bulbs, how bloody tight! But thanks for the heads up, I will make sure they leave them now!

YouFellAsleeep · 05/01/2020 10:52

I’ve got smart bulbs and no way would I be leaving them if I was to move! The obvious options though is to replace any bulbs you take with regular light bulbs.

cookiemonster5 · 05/01/2020 10:52

I took my expensive lightbulbs and left basic cheap ones.

zoobincan · 05/01/2020 10:53

I have a switch inside the front door, which I use to switch the lights on and off as I require them. I thought this was standard? What a pity you had to go to all that expense.

The person I bought this house from took the numbers of the house with them, there new house was not the same numbers. They also took all the blinds and curtain fittings, every single light bulb and the garage door! But left broken glass in the garden, stupid ornaments. When we knocked down a silly wall in the garden my neighbour must have told them they knocked on the door and asked if they could have the bricks as they had paid for them.

nzborn · 05/01/2020 10:55

When l brought my flat they took the bathroom mirror which wasn't listed on things l could buy so l was surprised it wasn't there so l was grateful they left the toilet seat, please leave the bulbs.

Mustrryharder · 05/01/2020 10:57

The people we bought our first house from did this, we didn't realise until after dark and all the shops were shut. Its possibly the tightest thing you could do.

viques · 05/01/2020 10:57

Please leave the bulbs, oh and while you are at it, leave the toilet seats! A friend found the out goers had taken every toilet seat in the house for some pervy reason because they were idiots. They had of course also taken the light bulbs. Who in their right mind has time on moving day to trudge around with a stepladder and a suitable bulb containing box.

My out goers decided at the last minute that they really really needed to take the spare tiles and wallpaper rolls that had been in the cellar since 1978 . They did leave their piano (which they later collected) and a helper and her small child whose keys they had driven off with. Before mobiles phones so we had to let them wait until they came back for the piano. I was nicer in those days, today I would turn them out preferably into a snowstorm......

Gemma2019 · 05/01/2020 10:59

I know we all have different tastes and I'm probably in the minority but after seeing that hall photo I'd be quite grateful if the previous owners took both the bulbs and the actual light fittings with them to save me a job.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 05/01/2020 10:59

Some people are ridiculous in their need for lighting based boasts. You know who you are.

thecapitalsunited · 05/01/2020 11:00

I took my Hue bulbs (non-colour changing ha!) but replaced with LEDs. Who wants to move into a house with no working lights? I’d never sold before but I could still work out that basic courtesy to my buyer.

wonkylegs · 05/01/2020 11:00

When my parents bought their house the absolute bastards we bought from took the light fittings, bulbs, door knobs, toilet roll holders basically everything including things that were nailed down.... except for some awkward furniture that obviously they wanted to get rid of but couldn't be arsed to take to the tip.
We had our first night lit by table and desk lights & torches that we had brought with us.
Should have given us a heads up as we found within a month they had literally papered over (on purpose) giant cracks as the house had serious subsidence. They were horrible people.

Somemore · 05/01/2020 11:00

Yabu to leave no bulbs, yanbu to replace with cheap bulbs.
