Cookiegate

DP and I are on holiday abroad. We've had a packed schedule doing a lot of activities together, so today we decided to each have some time to do some individual activities and have a bit of me time. DP is going on a birdwatching tour (yawn) and I've opted to have a day by the pool and getting some spa treatments 😀

Yesterday we bought some snacks because DP will be out the whole day today from 5am to 5pm so he wanted a few bits to keep him going, plus I wanted some cookies to enjoy on my "me-time" day. I bought some delicious looking choc chip macadamia cookies and DP got some fruit, Oreos and a large bag of crisps.

I just got back to the hotel room to discover that DP has taken ALL the snacks with him, including my cookies. He saw me buy them and knew they were mine. Plus the greedy bastard already had his own snacks. I just messaged him to ask if he took them and his reply was, "I was hungry". No apology at all!

He is usually kind and generous but occasionally has moments of thoughtlessness. I am now suffering from Severe Cookie Disappointment. Usually I wouldn't care but this was meant to be a "treat" day for me, it's rare that I get to have a day of self indulgence like this so I'm annoyed. I guess I could go and buy some more but it's a million degrees outside.

Am I being petty and unreasonable, or should I start thinking of creative ways to punish the greedy fucker for being a cookie thief? GrinGrinGrin

Surely the heat doesn't matter if you're planning on being outside most of the day anyway? Go buy some more.

BUT hide the after sun and when he asks for it say "oh sorry I was feeling pretty sore after my long walk to the shop in this heat so used it all" in your most innocent voice.

HeronLanyon · 05/01/2020 05:35

I’m recently back from very unusual (for me) island resort type holiday where there was zero opportunity to buy snacks of any sort - all restaurants - well we could have bought some pistachios for £20 a bag ! I had two random bags of hula hoops in my flight bag. My dp and I actually counted them out as we opened each bag ! There would have been divorce type thoughts if they had been taken/eaten by either of us. Second thing we said at Gatwick (after how cold it was) was oh my god there’s a WHSmith we could buy some crisps !!
Thank your lucky stars you can buy more. Hide them. Keep a secret stash. Bring them out and eat them in front of him. Make him grovel !!

violetbunny · 05/01/2020 06:02

Haha, yes I'm being lazy because I don't want to walk outside in the heat to get more. The point is that I shouldn't have to. He did lament yesterday that he should have bought some things to have for breakfast (hotel breakfast doesn't open until 6am) but instead of sorting this out last night, he decided to pilfer my cookies and eat them instead...!

I have braved the heat and crazy tuktuks outside (we are in Asia) and am currently enjoying lunch in a lovely cafe nearby 🙂 There will be a cookie replenishment stop on the way back.

Well done OP. Selfish git your DH!

ElluesPichulobu · 05/01/2020 06:11

yanbu. glad you are bracing the expedition to get more but this does mean he still owes you a lazy me-time day as you had to spend time acquiring cookies.

MiniGuinness · 05/01/2020 06:16

I can’t get behind you on this because I fucking hate the word cookie. Anyone who says cookie deserves them all to be eaten.

HeronLanyon · 05/01/2020 06:23

mini fully agree re ‘cookie’. Additionally as a confirmed salty/cheesy snacker (no real sweet tooth) the idea of ‘cookies/biscuits’ as source of pleasure as hot climate snacking is odd. However let’s not let our ‘cookie’ hatred lessen our full-on support for op having to deal with such shocking behaviour, eh?🤪

violetbunny · 05/01/2020 06:28

@ElluesPichulobu I like your thinking!

I used the word "cookie" because they are an American brand and it actually said cookie on the packet. I'm also not British. Didn't realise I would cause such offence! Grin

He's been a massively selfish dickhead.

Myfirstbornisacollie · 05/01/2020 07:01

Besides the point but a whole day to yourself to chill in the sun while DH is busy sounds amazing. I wonder if I could engineer such a plan on a future holiday 😂
The peace would be worth the inconvenience of the walk to the shop for snacks!

user1493413286 · 05/01/2020 07:04

I’d be annoyed but if I’m looking forward to something I get unreasonably disappointed by it being eaten. I’d be planning something similar (in a light hearted way)

CodenameVillanelle · 05/01/2020 07:09

That's really selfish and mean of him. He better have apologised when he got back!

LesLavandes · 05/01/2020 07:19

He could have taken them by accident

violetbunny · 05/01/2020 10:08

@LesLavandes It wouldn't be the first time he has "accidentally" eaten one of my treats Grin

He has just messaged me "sorry" and I have also had my spa treatment now so feeling very relaxed and less stabby towards him. Wink

OP posts:
RhiWrites · 05/01/2020 10:10

Well, sorry is like the least he could say. How will he actually make it up to you?

francienolan · 05/01/2020 11:14

Cookies and biscuits are different things, though. Cookies are the softer ones and biscuits are the ones that snap.

woooooo · 05/01/2020 12:51

I'd be demanding that the real Cookie Monster himself brings me a replacement packet pronto. And I'd click my fingers for added effect. Bird watching, ffs, who does he think he is, Bill bloody Oddie.

onanothertrain · 05/01/2020 12:54

FFS all these insults and feeling stabby over a packet of biscuits?

WaterOffADucksCrack · 05/01/2020 13:00

onanothertrain I'm not sure how long you've been on MN but there was a time when lighthearted threads like this didn't need a disclaimer. I highly doubt the OP id actually going to stab her partner. She's venting on an anonymous forum which won't harm him.

SimonJT · 05/01/2020 13:02

My boyfriend recently went to the states for work, they have a better range of dairy free oreos so I asked if he would bring back a few flavours for me.

I have type one diabetes so these oreos would have lasted weeks. I opened two flavours at once and tried one of each. He then ate the rest of them because he’s a greedy bastard.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 05/01/2020 13:04

I miss those days... simpler times...

NomNomNomNom · 05/01/2020 13:06

YANBU. If I was looking forward to a particular treat and someone stole it I'd be in a serious grump with them for at least a week.

DH doesn't think of treats unless they're in front of him then he'll eat them all even if he doesn't bloody like them, drives me insane!

MumW · 05/01/2020 13:09

I can’t get behind you on this because I fucking hate the word cookie.

@MiniGuinness, YABU in your racist hatred of the word and you're just being pedantic. In the UK, cookies is used to describe a specific kind of biscuit. It's quite clear what the OP was referring to and it wasn't digestives/bourbons/custard creams/etc otherwise she would have said choc chip macadamia biscuits and then we'd be berating her as she was clearly describing cookies and not biscuits

WorraLiberty · 05/01/2020 13:15

I hate how you've turned his selfish, greedy behaviour on yourself and you're asking if you're being petty and unreasonable.

It sounds like you're so used to being treated like this by him, you don't even see it anymore.
