Yabu to believe anything this government promised. Extract from the guardian last week:

The Conservatives faced criticism earlier this month after including a caveat in the Queen’s speech that the election promise to raise the national living wage to £10.50 by 2024 would only happen “provided economic conditions allow”.

FruitcakeOfHate · 04/01/2020 20:36

This is my surprised face.

SteelRiver · 04/01/2020 20:38

And, of course, these promised rises over five years depend on whether 'economic conditions allow.' Hmmmm....

Lardlizard · 04/01/2020 20:40

How do hey have the nerve to call it national living wage when it isn’t !! 🤬🤬🤬

OP posts:
slipperywhensparticus · 04/01/2020 20:41

Lardlizard · 04/01/2020 20:42

Lardlizard · 04/01/2020 20:43

I wonder what the living wage foundation think to the government using this fake name of national living wage 🤬🤬🤬

Mummyshark2019 · 04/01/2020 20:45

Well done to everyone who voted Boris!

ThanosSavedMe · 04/01/2020 20:46

Surprise surprise

theunknownknown · 04/01/2020 21:11

Well blow me down.
Boris lied Hmm
Well, at least the glow from the bonfire of regulations (aka workers' rights) will keep those that voted for this unprincipled excuse for a man warm.

ImGoingToBangYourHeadsTogether · 04/01/2020 21:12

And he had already signalled that employee rights would be weakened, as if they weren't weak enough in Britain already. Johnson lies. You were warned.

NeverTwerkNaked · 04/01/2020 21:13

Not surprised. But gutted for anyone who was hoping for this.

Frequency · 04/01/2020 21:14

How very predictable.

Samcro · 04/01/2020 21:15

Really, and people thought the conservatives cared about the low paid
As if

PinkiOcelot · 04/01/2020 21:15

Really?!! Totally shocked.

Blatherskite · 04/01/2020 21:16

Boris Johnson lied!! Shock

Well there's a surprise Hmm

Clavinova · 04/01/2020 21:18

To be fair - it was George Osborne who pledged £9 back in 2015.
The Office for Budget Responsibility estimated the figure would fall short in 2017 and March 2019. I don't think £9 was pledged by Theresa May or Boris Johnson;

"National living wage’ due to rise to £8.72 in April, falling short of George Osborne’s £9 target."

wheniwonder · 04/01/2020 21:19

bemused that anyone beleived Bojo was telling the truth! It was never going to!

Blatherskite · 04/01/2020 21:21

For future reference, there's an easy way to tell when something one of the Conservatives is saying is a lie....

Their lips move.

Bluntness100 · 04/01/2020 21:22

Boris Johnson didn't pledge this though did he? I'm not sure how he could have lied if he never promised it in the first place?

Petrichor11 · 04/01/2020 21:22

I’ll be more surprised if they ever keep any of their promises except possibly those made to their super rich chums. It’s not remotely surprising that the tories are already betraying the working class.

Ponoka7 · 04/01/2020 21:23

If the wages had have risen, then the amount that you can earn before it effects benefits wouldn't have, so tbh, it wouldn't have benefitted anyone who gets in work benefits.

candycane22 · 04/01/2020 21:23

£8.27 is still over 1.2k take home a month. How can that not be a living wage? Ehat do you all spend it on? Even in an expensive rent area I would be fine on this. Wouldnt be able to save as much as I do, but would be fine.
