To ask where people buy baby things now that mothercare is gone?

All of the mothercares near me have closed down and now their website is also gone.
I’m expecting a baby in may so need to start shopping soonish but wondering where people actually buy their baby stuff from? With my first I had two mothercares within 1 mile of me so everything came from there (feeding, pushchair, play mat etc) but now I’ve only got a mamas and papas and TBH it’s a bit expensive to get everything in there. Clothes are fine as I can get them from places like next, sainsburys, Asda etc but if I were to actually want to shop for my bits rather than just amazon it where would I go?

They sell prams in Smyth's Toys (proper ones not just for dolls!)
John Lewis

commoncoot · 03/01/2020 23:11

John Lewis still Have a baby department or smyths toys. I got a lot from amazon or independent children's shops as they had the best prices

museumum · 03/01/2020 23:13

Supermarkets, jojomananbebe, kiddicare.

Wherearemyminions · 03/01/2020 23:14

Independents are great, wider choice of brands and most importantly proper advice, especially with regard to car seats. Googling Baby Products in your area should bring up some local stores.

Lipperfromchipper · 03/01/2020 23:15

Mamas and papas, independent shops, John Lewis etc

coffeeforone · 03/01/2020 23:16

For feeding and nursery/changing stuff ikea has some decent bits

scousadelic · 03/01/2020 23:16

Our Mamas and Papas has gone too so our nearest shops with a good range are now 30-50 miles away in big cities

Kiddicare folded years ago!
I was wondering the other day where people shop for the big stuff now.

Fantababy · 03/01/2020 23:17

Smyths is ok, but not as good as Toys R Us who they seem to be replacing. The pram centre has a lot of stuff, as do John Lewis, but a lot of it is online. We've been looking at cots on Wayfair. There was a lot of glee from some posters on here when Mothercare collapsed but I thought it was incredibly sad.

happycamper11 · 03/01/2020 23:19

I dont think I've shopped in mothercare in 10 years of 2 dc. Look out for supermarket baby events. John Lewis occasionally, eBay, Amazon. Online stores for buggy is normally cheapest. Facebook selling pages/market place

Midnight0 · 03/01/2020 23:19

Online4baby is great, got most of my stuff from there

happycamper11 · 03/01/2020 23:19

Oh and Ikea

84claire84 · 03/01/2020 23:20

Argos

sadchristmas1 · 03/01/2020 23:21

Didn’t think of John Lewis but I’ve only got a home one near me which doesn’t have a kids bit.
I also don’t have any of the shops mentioned near me (even independents). My shopping centre is absolute crap so I think I will have to amazon most of it apart from clothes. I was going to get my pram online anyway. It has baffled me how mothercare have gone bust because surely most people bought a lot of their essentials in there?

John Lewis and Mamas and papas to see big items in the flesh then check what's online although with JL price promise you might not need to. We have an independent shop here as well, Argos and Boots do some stuff too. Worth keeping an eye out for the supermarket baby events too as they usually include bigger stuff they don't normally stock.

sadchristmas1 · 03/01/2020 23:23

If only I was due a bit sooner I could have got the bedside crib I wanted on sale

We used Argos and supermarkets.

Mothercare always seemed so expensive.

sadchristmas1 · 03/01/2020 23:24

Didn’t think of boots either I could get all my feeding bits in there as well as stuff for my hospital bag (sanitary towels breast pads etc) and also some clothing.

Aldi baby event starts on 5th January online and 9th in store. It's not just wipes, bottles etc but big stuff like high chairs, Moses basket, next to me crib, stroller...

commoncoot · 03/01/2020 23:26

Honestly I've never brought from mothercare prices were always awful and the staff in our local one didn't seem to know anything.

Our next2me was 2nd hand with a new mattress online. Bottles and steriliser from Asda baby event. Pushchair amazon when they had a great deal on discounts if you use syn woe baby wish system (for that my double pram, bottles, bouncer and play mat for less than the pram cost in Mothercare) car seat from John Lewis.

Heyha · 03/01/2020 23:26

Had excellent customer service from Precious Little One too, only a beach tent but they identified and resolved a problem before I'd even realised! Had serious problems with Kiddies Kingdom with returning a damaged car seat but they had to give in in the end as I'd got photos taken of the damage 30mins after the delivery company took my signature.

Pinkflipflop85 · 03/01/2020 23:27

Didn't buy anything in mothercare for either baby, as it was always dearer than anywhere else. Bought everything online from independent retailers.

Yoohoo16 · 03/01/2020 23:27

I was wondering this earlier as I’ve just bought a second hand cotbed for dmums house and need some sheets etc.

Luckily I will be reusing dds things for a second but mothercare was great for the bits I struggled to get elsewhere.

Heyha · 03/01/2020 23:28

I couldn't believe how good Boots is for baby stuff! Barely set foot in there for years a d now I'm a regular 😂

commoncoot · 03/01/2020 23:28

@yoohoo16 Asda do fantastic sheets for all sizes baby sleeping places. I get sheets for my next2 me there. Also got sheets that fit our Ikea cot
