To ask if you think there will be a second coming?

This is inspired by the new Netflix show Messiah, about a second coming.

I really hope this doesn’t upset or offend anyone and people can share their beliefs and thoughts openly and without prejudice or judgement as I know this can be very sensitive for some people.

Following on from —binge— watching this series I did a bit of googling and it seems both Christian and Muslim regions predict this. (Not researched if any others do yet)

I’m not very well informed about different regions but the concept of this programme has really interested me, I find it fascinating that this could, maybe? actually happen!

Do you think there could be a second coming?!

(And what would it actually mean for the world? A rise in consciousness? Mass healing???)

YABU - no don't be so daft!
YANBU - yes, this could happen, why not?!

That's fine Rose, you're not at all dismissive yourself. No hypocrisy there, at all...

But your posts, are complete non-sequiturs...

RoseWines · 07/01/2020 00:48

In a previous post, I agreed with a previous comment you made. (So I'm not being dismissive or hypocritical. I was being agreeable)
You went on to reply, dismissing my agreement. So you were essentially arguing against yourself 😂

Someone else said your posts have an angry underlying tone.
Which I think does come across and I think that's quite sad for you.
Hopefully outside of the internet you've a happier less angry life :)
@CardinalSin

CardinalSin · 07/01/2020 00:50

Ahh, smugness! How very Christian!

RoseWines · 07/01/2020 00:55

Again, I hope offline you dont confuse neutrality with smugness or everything as having a negative intention, where none actually exists Flowers

CardinalSin · 07/01/2020 00:58

Ah, bless....

flowerbombVR · 07/01/2020 01:32

The blind faith in Atheism is rather ironic.

cabbageking · 07/01/2020 01:34

Faith is personal.

Some seek it and find it and some do not want or need. To some it makes sense and some it doesn't or it may be a yes/no relationship.

Hebrews says it best.

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, a conviction of things not seen."

I don't think it matters if someone thinks it is rubbish or is unsure because as long as you have those moments of peace, comfort, and love, they sustains you.

I do think if it brings you distress, worry, pain, takes something from you and leaves you full of guilt then I understand why so many turn away from it.

.

CardinalSin · 07/01/2020 01:57

"The blind faith in Atheism is rather ironic."

The lack of insight in this statement is tragic...

flowerbombVR · 07/01/2020 02:16

CardinalSin - Your posts scream Egotistical. If you can only insult then don't waste your time. What gives you the right to Judge any evidence ? We have two different views.

flowerbombVR · 07/01/2020 02:39

I will now hide this thread so as to not feed the trolls. Men, urgh!

Defenbaker · 07/01/2020 02:41

@SirChing Thank you for sharing the details about your grandfather.

It's a pity some people piled in with their criticism, when all you did was try to answer people's questions about your faith to the best of your ability. I've really enjoyed this thread, and hope to see you posting again on religious subjects.

Your username is interesting... considering that you have faith, it implies that you are still "SirChing" for answers yourself. I once had an elderly neighbour who was a devout catholic, and used to ask her many questions about her faith. I explained that although I would like to believe, I had too many unanswered questions, and I asked if she had any herself. She replied "Oh yes, I have many questions, and I'm looking forward to meeting God when my time comes, so I can ask them and get the answers!" ☺ She was a lovely lady. I hope she got those answers.

CardinalSin · 07/01/2020 08:39

Again, it's always the people who know with absolute certainty that their particular form of deity is definitely the only one, who accuse others of egotism...

Yeahnah2020 · 07/01/2020 08:45

I’m shocked 23% of you think it’s a possibility. Jesus and God aren’t real!!!!!

FredaFrogspawn · 07/01/2020 09:27

It would be great to believe this. I don’t blame people who do and sometimes wish I could. It’s all a bit bleak without a belief.

boymum9 · 07/01/2020 09:47

I haven't read all 500+ posts over the last few days but have occasionally skimmed over some of them and just wanted to add my view to the conversation!

About a year ago I became friends a Christian and we had many interesting conversations, I admired his views and stances on things and how he lived his life but I didn't have the same beliefs, he was very knowledgable and I decided to go on a bit of a mission to learn more, get a bible and read it, so I could basically argue his points...! I had always been what I would consider agnostic, and perhaps going through stages of atheism.

After about 10 months something happened and something in me changed and I suddenly had a belief in all these things that I had argued and never believed. I now am a Christian and I go to church, I read my bible daily and devote time and have a passion to learning and understanding more. Everyone will have their opinions on religion but for me it changed my life, for the first time ever after a childhood that involved abuse, an emotional abusive partner, an awful marriage breakdown, I feel peaceful, joyful, and full of a life I never knew could exist. And alongside that I have a belief that surpasses all understanding and something I could never comprehend before and it brings me love and comfort that I have never felt from another human being or from myself in 30+ years of life.

I think Christians do get a bad rap and some people think they think they're better and think they have a higher moral standpoint, and that's probably a view I held before, but that's not the case, that's not the case of anyone I have met who is Christian and that's not the view I hold, I was watching sermon and a pastor said that Christians do not think they're better than anyone, but they are better off, and I can contest to that, my life has never been better even though I am still going through some testing times, nothing anyone can never say to me about faith will change my mind

@SirChing (thought this may be of interest to you)

Nothing suddenly happened. You pretty much indoctrinated yourself. You were reading material that would back up what he was saying. If you want to learn more you should be reading a wide range of literature from the all viewpoints.

When you say you have a belief in all these things now can you give me an example of something you couldn't believe in before that you suddenly now do?

With all due respect its like me coming on here and telling you how I met someone who believed in werewolves and while I was sceptical I decided to read a novel that had werewolves in it and after reading this story for 10 months I suddenly woke up one morning believing in werewolves. You see what I mean?

speakball · 07/01/2020 10:07

Again, it's always the people who know with absolute certainty that their particular form of deity is definitely the only one, who accuse others of egotism...

Christians have decided they know the bible is true. Atheists say there's no evidence that it's true. And yet we're the ones making claims that we know things??

speakball · 07/01/2020 10:14

It's like the earlier point about the Aussie fires, "don't send prayer, send aid", I sent both, it doesn't have to be one or the other.

I know which one I'd want.

SilverySurfer · 07/01/2020 10:16

Religion is called the opium of the masses for a reason. It was created to control the population and succeeded rather well.

The world would be a better place without it in the 21st Century.

speakball · 07/01/2020 10:22

What gives you the right to Judge any evidence

For crying out loud will you actually think about how ridiculous that statement is. I give myself the right to judge the evidence because I have a brain and I want to be careful about believing things that are true and not believing in things that are false. I will also defend your right to judge any evidence for yourself and come to any conclusion you want.

Your conclusions probably won't make any sense to me and thats what's so interesting.

boymum9 · 07/01/2020 11:56

@speakball I didn't say I just read literature that would support Christianity Smile

boymum9 · 07/01/2020 12:00

@speakball also something did suddenly happen, it's impossible to explain unless you have felt it. You sound very worked up and angry, it's unnecessary, you are gaining nothing from being that way.

FramingDevice · 07/01/2020 12:10

Well, watching other people’s underthinking is always profoundly irritating.

FramingDevice · 07/01/2020 12:10

Especially when they make getting religion sound rather like some kind of MLM.

speakball · 07/01/2020 12:16

Not familiar with the fallacy of ad hominem then?
