(Lighthearted)

Help me settle this debate with my husband!

Okay so, the house has got messy. You've been too busy to keep on top of it and you need to do a big tidy up and clean top to bottom.

Does it make more sense to

A) Go room by room and don't move to the next until one is finished

B) Task by task ie, collect laundry from each room, tidy every room, vacuum every room, mop the floors

OP posts:

B.
Awful to tidy and hoover one room then unplug and replug then start all over again.

belleandbete · 03/01/2020 18:33

probably a bit of both.
Do downstairs: Basic tidy everywhere plus gather up plates/ cups etc. put wash on and keep it moving through the system
Clean kitchen surfaces and wash up, sweep kitchen floor.
plump up living room sofa, vaccuum downstairs
Clean downstairs look
tidy bedrooms one by one and change beds
Clean bathroom and downstairs
sweep/ hoover
mop last otherwise you end up mopping dirt around everywhere

B works better for me. I try to take na approach to tidying as if I am laying a stone wall. Every time I pick something up, I have to put it in its rightful place, which means moving from room to room. Things go by the stairs if i have a lot of tidying ahead of me and need to conserve energy. I thne sort those things destined for another floor after each room gets done. So there is an element of tidying approach A towards the very end.

SimonJT · 03/01/2020 18:37

C think sod it and leave it for longer

OhioOhioOhio · 03/01/2020 18:38

Bit of both.

Ohyesiam · 03/01/2020 18:38

I start off with b, in terms of tidying, then when things are tidy, the wash is on, the dishwasher is full, I clean room by room except for the floors which I do together at the end.

Aswad · 03/01/2020 18:40

A that was I know which rooms have been left ‘clean’

LunchBoxPolice · 03/01/2020 18:41

If there’s two of you working together the one does A and the other does B.
If working alone - B

FrangipaniBlue · 03/01/2020 18:46

We do what @TW2013 said!

I go round collecting dirty pots first and bring them to the kitchen where DH washes them.

I then go collecting laundry and bring it to one room where I start sorting and putting a load on.

Meanwhile DH (who has finished washing the dirty pots) goes room by room dusting and hoovering.

I move on to sorting clean clothes which I place in each persons room and they then put away.

Team effort Grin

B

firstimemamma · 03/01/2020 18:47

I've been told B is quicker but I still somehow prefer A personally!

thickwoollytights · 03/01/2020 18:48

B

MurrayTheMonk · 03/01/2020 18:48

A. B is crazy talk.

MiniGuinness · 03/01/2020 18:49

I don’t divide by room, I divide by floors. So I think a combination of both methods really.

Dongdingdong · 03/01/2020 18:49

I’d find A far more satisfying!

Jaxhog · 03/01/2020 18:50

I was going to say A, but you experts seem to agree that B is more efficient.

fufulina · 03/01/2020 18:54

Reading the OP I would say B, but thinking about how I actually do it, it’s A. But I do that by floor. So I don’t move the Hoover and the bathroom stuff to the loft until the first floor is done.

KittenVsXmastree · 03/01/2020 18:54

Bit of both. Rooms to be cleared individually, but once they are fit to be cleaned, do each room properly except for floors. Floors done all together at the end (only switch on vaccuum once up stairs and once downstairs)

LilQueenie · 03/01/2020 19:01

Whoever chose A does A and whoever chose B does B. Make him help.

maddening · 03/01/2020 19:01

The lady who cleans my house does it room by room and she is V efficient. She does 3 ensuites and main bathroom, hoovers upstairs (5 bedrooms) and does mirrors and window ledges and skirting boards, hoovers stairs, cleans kitchen diner Inc mopping floors and downstairs loo in 2 hours.

I tidy ahead of her and do the living room, blinds, beds etc. This means that by 11am Saturday my house is cleaned all through and husband has done the "big shop", bliss.

FeedThemFlumps · 03/01/2020 19:05

I do a mix of A and B, doing bits until I get bored and then moving to something else.

However, as each room gets close to being done, I focus on it to 'get it over the line'.

Elieza · 03/01/2020 19:23

You have to start with the washings and dish washerings first as they take so long. Then I do b but her sidetracked and end up doing a bit of a too.

Elieza · 03/01/2020 19:24

Get sidetracked. Stupid phone.

dreamingofmushrooms · 03/01/2020 19:29

I've always been an A person, but all that means is that in order to tidy one room you end up putting all the clutter in another room while you do it, and end up making work for yourself. I'm going to have a stab at B this weekend. DH usually obliges by doing as he is told Grin

NutRoastNancy · 03/01/2020 19:36

B
