(Lighthearted)

Help me settle this debate with my husband!

Okay so, the house has got messy. You've been too busy to keep on top of it and you need to do a big tidy up and clean top to bottom.

Does it make more sense to

A) Go room by room and don't move to the next until one is finished

B) Task by task ie, collect laundry from each room, tidy every room, vacuum every room, mop the floors

B

UndertheCedartree · 03/01/2020 18:06

I think it depends on the person but I'd probably do more A as I would feel more movivated by having a room completely done to move onto another one. If I run out of time at least I have 1 or more clean and tidy rooms to use.

Loveislandaddict · 03/01/2020 18:07

A - room by room

WatchingFromTheWings · 03/01/2020 18:07

I don't collect laundry....if anybody wants something washed they bring it to the machine! Or it doesn't get done.

Otherwise I do a room at a time. Kids do their own.

HowDoIhelp321 · 03/01/2020 18:08

I always attempt to do A but end up doing B.

WhenEnoughIsEnough · 03/01/2020 18:10

A, because then you've at least got 1 room completely done

Purpleartichoke · 03/01/2020 18:13

B is more efficient, but I have to do A or I get overwhelmed and make no progress

Cherrysoup · 03/01/2020 18:14

B

17caterpillars1mouse · 03/01/2020 18:14

We've done this today and went with method A. We've managed to do family bathroom, our bedroom, Ensuite, both kids bedrooms, living room and made a start on the junk room. We've done 2 skip runs but the place still feels cluttered :(

FruityWidow · 03/01/2020 18:14

Both. One does room by room and the other does job by job.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 03/01/2020 18:17

A bit of both. Collect all laundry and dishes from everywhere. Then you can set a load of laundry away and a full dishwasher.

then you pick a room and do it.

Intersperse individual room tidying with emptying and reloading the washing machine.

The only thing I do at the very end is a whole vacuum through.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 03/01/2020 18:17

Oh and if you do room by room, do the room you relax in last

Redcrayons · 03/01/2020 18:19

Room by room but my rule is that if I’m relocating stuff then I have put it away properly rather than just move it somewhere else.
My house is a tip though, so what do I know?

Myusername101 · 03/01/2020 18:19

A

Muminabun · 03/01/2020 18:19

B for economic use of time and effort.

NetballHoop · 03/01/2020 18:22
  1. Swoop through the house doing a B which fills the washing machine and the dish washer.
  2. Then A room by room but not the floors.
  3. Finally a B to do the floors thoughout the house.
  4. Chocolate.
cakeandchampagne · 03/01/2020 18:23

The only way your husband can prove his way is better is to clean the entire house by himself, using his own method.
Of course, that could only prove his way works better for him. Smile

Chloemol · 03/01/2020 18:23

I do a combination. I would collect all laundry and start it going, then dust and tidy each room, them Hoover in one ago across the house and mop any floors

CallmeAngelina · 03/01/2020 18:23

Can we just be clear that you are BOTH going to be involved with the clearing up, regardless of approach?

Crackery · 03/01/2020 18:24

Definitely A for me!

LBOCS2 · 03/01/2020 18:24

Hmm. A bit of both. I'd go into a room, gather up everything which didn't live in there, put those in the right places (usually the sink and wash basket 🙄) and then get on with the task of seriously decluttering and/or tidying.

Atalune · 03/01/2020 18:25

Bit of both.

Basically I tidy first then I clean.

So gather up laundry and stick a wash on.
Put everything away that’s out. And that mean I move about. So I’ll be in the play room putting stuff away and then inevitably there is stuff in that room that belongs someplace out. And than is repeated as I move around.

Make beds. Fluff up the sofas and open all the windows.

Once everything is in its place. I dust, then , clean the loos, mirrors and glass, vacuum, steam mop.

Jellybeansincognito · 03/01/2020 18:25

B!

WheresMyChocolate · 03/01/2020 18:27

A as I see more progress and it incentivises me to do the next.
