As a vegan the start of veganuary is always really exciting when all the new companies bring out their vegan stuff - this year seems to be particularly great - Greggs have brought the vegan steak bake, kfc have their vegan burger and McDonald’s....well they’ve taken the horrible goujon things they have in their veggie burger, sold them separately and marketed them as a new vegan meal! Grin AIBU to think that they need to seriously up their game?

@CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook thank you, that's a really generous post.

@hairytoity - I think they have improved with that lately (paper straws and no plastic on the ice-creams) but it's definitely an issue. It sounds from this thread like I live in McDonald's!! I really don't go there very often!! Blush

@mrsgoggings - go you! If you don't go to McDonald's what can you contribute to a thread about food they sell? Confused Not sure a packed lunch quite hits the same spot as junk food!

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 04/01/2020 13:24

@Mrsgoggingsthe3rd ha ha. Funnily enough McDonalds and most other restaurants frown upon people taking their own packed lunches into their restaurants. I take the kids as a treat sometimes. They're not vegan. Hmm

BrendasUmbrella · 04/01/2020 13:56

As a carnivore I would never eat there, not only because of the way they treat animals (and people), but also because it tastes like shit.

Unless people have to hide their pets from you when you visit, you're an omnivore Grin

DdraigGoch · 04/01/2020 14:09

I'd rather starve than eat in McDonald's.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 04/01/2020 14:44

I'd rather starve than eat in McDonald's

Well, ain't it lucky for you then that there's other places available?!

Copperleaves · 04/01/2020 15:54

I'm eating in Wetherspoons and there were a few vegan main course options, but none for dessert at all - which is not necessarily a bad thing! Don't want to be like a pp and gain a stone from trying a vegan diet Smile

Lordfrontpaw · 04/01/2020 15:55

I’m eating vegan in a Greek place. No ‘meat’ substitutes, just nice Greek food.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 04/01/2020 15:59

*I'd rather starve than eat at McDonalds

I'm pretty sure if you were actually starving and were offered a McDonalds you'd eat it. Hell I'm vegan but I'd eat a Big Mac if that was all that stood between me and death.

Copperleaves · 04/01/2020 16:07

a 'dietary vegan' is not a vegan and is just someone who eats 'a vegan diet' or 'a plant-based diet'
See this kind of stuff gives vegans a bad name. We've spent how many years trying to get omnivores to accept that (a) they are not carnivores; and (b) that vegetarians don't eat fish. So now we have to tell people that some who eats an entirely plant based diet is not actually vegan?

Lordfrontpaw · 04/01/2020 16:44

I was listening to a woman on the radio last night who was saying that she was a vegan - but not all the time. So not a vegan then! Very odd. Also a woman that said becoming a vegan changed dear dna.

Had the KFC vegan non chicken burger today ( had to see what the hype was about ) to be honest it tasted no different to a Quorn southern fried burger with iceberg lettuce and Hellman’s vegan mayo. I’ve never been in a KFC before so don’t know about secret herbs and spices ect but I can say it’s my first and last vegan KFC. OP I think I actually prefer McDonald’s options not that anyone’s bothered now because it’s just turned into a vegan versus plant based versus meat eaters debate anyway

Skyejuly · 05/01/2020 09:09

I had the kfc burger yesterday it was really nice but agree it's just a quorn burger. Was actually nicer than the chicken though! Doesnt come with fries as they are not vegan.
