My newsfeed is dripping with so much self congratulating bs, it’s unbearable to look at! Photo of me 10 years ago.. blah blah... Been through highs and lows..blah blah...had children, discovered myself.... Ugh it’s relentless meaningless drivel! Whatever happened to wishing a happy new year and getting on with your day?! I wouldn’t dream of boring everybody with a heavily rose tinted synopsis of the last decade - who cares?!!

DELETE THE APPS!! Just try it for a week and you will feel so much better without it!

Just delete social media. I’ve been off Facebook for 4 months now and feel so much better not seeing everyone’s drivel on it all the time.

I dunno.. I did write a short reflective post (as well as saying HNY) because actually my life wasn’t great ten years ago, I’ve made a lot of changes, it wasn’t always easy, and I’m in a good place now. Why shouldn’t I mark that in some way? And I’ve liked reading my friends’ posts and seeing their pictures. But then I like the people I have on social media 🤷‍♀️

I'm only connected with actual friends on Facebook so I'm very happy to read there posts.

Although I won't do one myself as it's too depressing to share how much weight I've gained in 10 years.

I always wonder what people would find to bitch about if they didn't have social media to be jealous and/ or nasty about their so called "friends"

Yeah 10 years ago I was slim and didn't need to dye my hair if I didn't want to be grey. Not really appreciating that comparison at the moment.

It's irrelevant whether they're you, or if you'd do it or if you like them. They're not barging in your house,putting a gun to your head to write one or even read them. You can just scroll past. Or not open FB for a few days.

If you read them(and waste your time on Oscar speeches) just to whinge about it, or because you have nothing better to do/entertain you then the problem lies with you.

YANBU! Absolute drivel & yet another of the many reasons I stopped going on Facebook a couple of years ago. You can waste far too much energy on these people & their posts, you probably don't even see much of them in your day to day life. You'll get a mixed reaction on here though, lots of people obviously love a good Facebook brag post.

Nothing wrong with reflecting at new years but it's cringy to publisize it on your Facebook page. Almost no one actually reads them, they just click like and move on.

The thing is, people can be nice, normal people in real life who don’t do Oscar speeches about theIt past 10 years, or get out photos of themselves ten years ago and shove them in your face, or don’t go through their annual fitness stats with you etc. But then they do all those things on Social Media and it can be annoying. My rule is only post something you would say/do in real life. A funny anecdote. A cute photo. Maybe a life update - got a new job etc. I am done with SM I think. Thinly disguised bragging and self obsession all over the shop.

It’s not that I struggle to be happy for others, I’m happy to see what people have been up to - holidays, weddings, good days out - it’s these cringy self-important essays that have been appearing today. I just genuinely don’t understand how people can write about themselves in that way, as if they’re some kind of celebrity talking to an audience. I just couldn’t sit there and write about myself in that way without feeling silly! If that makes me bitchy and superior then fair enough but I just genuinely don’t understand it!

I don't think they are any worse than usual FB posts
