Or a driver?

I would bloody love a nanny. Someone to check the fridge is always stocked, my clothes are laundered, I remember to go to work, make dentist appointments, tell me to go to bed when I’m not feeling well, clean the house, tell me I’m awesome, remind me to get a haircut, field annoying calls from my parents 😊.

Why criticise , we’re all just jealous.

Cremebrule · 30/12/2019 22:34

I know a partner in banking law who is brilliant at being a lawyer but fucking useless at life skills and has a housekeeper. I doubt he’d see it as a problem if a recruit was the same.

merrymouse · 30/12/2019 22:35

The strange thing isn't just that the parents want somebody to clean/do laundry/fill the fridge - plenty of people with money pay somebody else to do these things - it's that they literally want a nanny with a year's 'babysitting' experience.

motherheroic · 30/12/2019 22:37

Easy money

lovepickledlimes · 30/12/2019 22:39

@Cremebrule 😂🤣😂 worked as an au pair for a lawyer and his wife when I first moved to the uk lol. Had to show him how to get onto his own wifi and put on the oven as he was just so used to his wife sorting it for him lol. She also had to leave him a meal plan for himself

brendansbuddy · 30/12/2019 22:40

I work in HE and parents are increasingly moving in, hovering, and managing their kids. We see lots of over-involvement (and don't get me wrong, I'm a parent of teens) and it greatly disempowers young people to give the message that they can't manage independent living. This does them no favours and parents need to back off.

Dollymixture22 · 30/12/2019 22:41

Cremebrule

It’s probably a SEN issue. Wealthy parents concerned about child with limited life skills who might struggle in stressful situations.

A nanny would do all the housekeeper duties and keep an eye on the teenager, reporting back of he/she became overwhelmed. Should have called it something else, assistant with household duties.

LaurieMarlow · 30/12/2019 22:42

most students I know seem to survive off oven ready meals, pot noodles, and takeaways not that much of a life skill if you ask me

This girl apparently can’t manage even this.

The ad asks for someone who will ‘ensure she eats’ three times a day and maintain a fridge full of snacks for her. This is a girl apparently incapable of buying snacks and sticking them in her own fridge.

FairytaleofButlins · 30/12/2019 22:44

sounds more like controlling parents who don't want their kid to survive on junk food at random times like any respectable student Grin

lovepickledlimes · 30/12/2019 22:46

@LaurieMarlow maybe her parents just want her to not just eat crap though. It's not good for the body or the brain. We don't tend to become fully sensible adults that don't make bad choices till probably mid to late 20s. This could potentially effect her performance etc. There might be a lot of pressure on her from family to finish with only top grades etc

merrymouse · 30/12/2019 22:46

If there is an SEN issue, is a year of babysitting really appropriate experience? Is an ad in the paper a good idea?

LaurieMarlow · 30/12/2019 22:48

maybe her parents just want her to not just eat crap though

Couldn’t they invest in a cookery course rather than employ someone to stock her fridge?

lovepickledlimes · 30/12/2019 22:50

@LaurieMarlow would still not mean she will bother to cook. It's not a lack of ingredients that make students eat shit but not being arsed to cook or do more then turn on an oven

FOTTFSOFTFOASM · 30/12/2019 22:51

Well said, @LauraLongLegs 😂

FairytaleofButlins · 30/12/2019 22:52

I could see myself do a few online shops for my kids at uni to help out from time to time. Not that different, I just have a much lower budget!

Shouldn’t have taken an add out like this. Sounds like the daughter hasn’t looked after herself during the first term, got a bit overwhelmed and parents trying to come up with a solution.

We can’t be there to take care of you so we will hire someone. What they really need is a motherly housekeeper who will field the odd phone call and reassure parents she is okay.

Or daughter could be a raging party animal and parents want a spy😂.

Either way I still want a nanny

FairytaleofButlins · 30/12/2019 22:54

can't help you with that Dollymixture22 but it's getting late. Go to bed.

Dollymixture22 · 30/12/2019 22:54

😂 thanks I will

Grin
lovepickledlimes · 30/12/2019 22:57

@merrymouse great idea lol her parents might not know about this service though lol so they wanted to hire someone to do it lol

ACouchOfOnesOwn · 30/12/2019 23:10

Maybe she has health issues - not necessarily SEN but the need to have 3 healthy meals per day could mean an illness that necessitates regular, healthy eating. Although I don't know how a housekeeper is meant to enforce a meal schedule if the student goes to the union and doesn't come back till 4am Grin

MumW · 30/12/2019 23:10

Imagine the senario of her bringing a few course mates boyfriend back and introducing her flat mate as Nanny X. Hmm 🤣

FairytaleofButlins · 30/12/2019 23:11

that might be exactly WHY the parents want a "nanny"!

lovepickledlimes · 30/12/2019 23:12

@ACouchOfOnesOwn potentially nanny could also be employed to stop that lol depending how strict they are lol
