Or a driver?

I studied law at 18, cooked and cleaned up after myself and had a job. Not doing this woman any favours babying her like this for when she enters the working world.

lovepickledlimes · 30/12/2019 22:12

@user32564567 not everyone wants to rough it and just because ome has never roughed it before does not mean they would not be able to relate to people from a less privileged background

meatandcrustypies · 30/12/2019 22:12

I am confused as to how someone who has never had to decide what to eat for dinner, let alone the complex task of shopping for it and cooking it themselves whilst also studying, is suddenly going to be capable of thinking creatively outside the box Confused

FairytaleofButlins · 30/12/2019 22:13

I think some people on here like to pretend they can afford housekeepers for their 18 year olds.

do they? I must have missed that.

What I read is posters saying they would happily employ one if they could afford it. Cleaning a toilet or plonking a ready meal in a microwave is hardly a life skill.

Technically you have to be privileged to be able to afford uni for a start

lovepickledlimes · 30/12/2019 22:14

@LaurieMarlow Her parents might already have connections that could get her a job. She could end up working for a family firm or business. Unfortunately not everyone starts at the bottom

HarrietSchulenberg · 30/12/2019 22:17

I was at Leeds University with a girl who saved her washing up all week and took it home for Mummy and Daddy to wash up at weekends. They bought her a car to facilitate this. She would not lift a finger to help around her shared house yet was horrifically messy. She was not a popular girl.

This poor princess poppet is going to have the living shite ripped out of her.

Yeah. This.

Or indeed how someone who can’t deal with the ‘stress’ of laundry and cleaning on top of studying will cope with the ‘stress’ of juggling multiple client briefs, prioritising most pressing tasks, delivering to tight time lines.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 30/12/2019 22:18

There have been lawyers for centuries that have never had to cook or clean for themselves - this is a ridiculous argument 😏

lovepickledlimes · 30/12/2019 22:19

@meatandcrustypies love creative writing. Love thinking outside the box, love doing a ton of creative things. Could not think of anything more boring then cooking or planning a meal. Fiancé is happy to do it so I don't. In return I do laundry, hoover, make sure household and pet items are stocked up, and dishes etc. If I had to feed myself it would be ramen, bread or fruit as I prefer to not have to think about it more then I have to.

GorkyMcPorky · 30/12/2019 22:20

I don't think this girl's parents are concerned about her future employability.

user32564567 · 30/12/2019 22:20

Do you all pamper your kids? They never had to clean up after themselves or cook a meal?

LaurieMarlow · 30/12/2019 22:20

Family businesses can and do fail. For any corporate business worth it’s salt, a friends child will get a foot in the door, but really woo ok my get any further without grafting from the bottom.

Aurea · 30/12/2019 22:21

I guess a student living at home and having their washing, cooking, cleaning done is similar except they don't pay their parents to do it for them?

lovepickledlimes · 30/12/2019 22:22

@Aurea Exactly

FairytaleofButlins · 30/12/2019 22:24

what stress? Boring chores are not stressful, they are a complete waste of time.

Some of us prefer wasting time on MN than doing laundry. So what?

meatandcrustypies · 30/12/2019 22:24

At the end of the day, the parents could do worse things for their child, of course!

However, it is simply not a good way for her to get to know people, or how to get on with people from different walks of life, which is such an important business skill.

Plus it could see her spending a very isolated three years whilst studying, as it will set her apart, and that is not a nice thought.

LaurieMarlow · 30/12/2019 22:26

what stress?

That was a direct quote from the ad written by her parents.

She needs to ‘live without the stress of laundry and cooking’ because of her vair intense course.

user32564567 · 30/12/2019 22:27

The stress of living is too much for the poor snowflake. She might break a nail.

LaurieMarlow · 30/12/2019 22:27

Which is why I put it in quotation marks

lovepickledlimes · 30/12/2019 22:29

@LaurieMarlow I guess they mean they don't want her to need to use the head space that will just distract her from her studies

JKScot4 · 30/12/2019 22:29

I’ll assume she plans to stay in the UK otherwise why study law here 🤔

MyBlueMoonbeam · 30/12/2019 22:29

Wow there are some seriously big chips on shoulders on this thread 🤨

bringbacksideburns · 30/12/2019 22:30

Isn't this what Jacob Reece- Moggs had? I know his Nanny used to go with him at the beginning of term to make up his bed etc.

So because she's rich she doesn't have to try to be self sufficient and learn to cook? Hell she might enjoy cooking!

I agree it's very identifying though. Won't be hard to work out who she is.

That Pulp song is in my head now ' She studied Sculpture at St. Martin's College...'

LaurieMarlow · 30/12/2019 22:31

I guess they mean they don't want her to need to use the head space that will just distract her from her studies

Well of course that’s what they mean. It’s just the much more valuable life skills that she’s missing out on in the meantime.

lovepickledlimes · 30/12/2019 22:33

@LaurieMarlow most students I know seem to survive off oven ready meals, pot noodles, and takeaways not that much of a life skill if you ask me
