Gift bags. They’re just a bit naff aren’t they?

A bit Clinton cards, Facebook, live laugh love.

A gift bag user would have guilty pleasures and definitely not give head.

(Plus they’re bad for the environment of course)

I used only gift bags this year and asked for them back. Last year, I hurt my thumb and only used gift bags and realised how nice it was not to feel guilty when I threw out paper a lot of which isn't recyclable.

Liketoshop · 31/12/2019 17:56

People put an unwrapped present in a bag because they are rubbish at wrapping! Whatever next?
Unwrapping a present is what Christmas and birthdays are all about

Shell4429 · 31/12/2019 17:59

I buy gift bags, I iron clothes and hate the living life on Facebook thing. I wrap Christmas presents for children though.

MasterchefMeansRiceKrispiesFor · 31/12/2019 18:07

I’m glad I’m not the only one. We re-use the gift bag and like others above don’t write on the card (in fact I might go as far as to judge those who do). I think they’re more reusable than wrapping paper. Depending on the person you may get tissue paper but never with sellotape- more just to hide the present. For your judgy pants, I don’t iron. My husband does but he’d never think to anyone a gift.

LinnieMaple · 31/12/2019 18:10

I now live in Canada where gift bags - and frayed without any tag - are the norm. In fact my friend and I have a running joke because we’ve recycled the same gift bag for each other birthdays for the last 4 Years. Still going strong!

LinnieMaple · 31/12/2019 18:13

Damn predictive! Not frayed reused Hmm

PortiaCastis · 31/12/2019 18:19

Well that's really pissed off all the disabled posters who physically cannot wrap presents
Classics my arse

Justontherightsideofnormal · 31/12/2019 18:25

I reuse gift bags.
I also reuse wrapping paper.
I also regift presents.
And enjoy sex in more ways than missionary.

LouH1981 · 31/12/2019 18:28

Literally had no idea this was a thing. I use gift bags to put the all the wrapped presents for one family altogether so they are easier to organise and carry.

threatmatrix · 31/12/2019 18:34

Think you are being a bit of a twat really, I give fabulous head. My whole family use gift bags and the are more environmentally friendly than wrapping paper you idiot. We never write on the tags by the way, we just pass them around. This post really infuriated me for some reason.

DancingQueen2018 · 31/12/2019 18:35

My mum and gran reused the same selfridges bag for about 10 years It was a complete running joke. When gran died my mum and I continued until it broke.

Devora13 · 31/12/2019 18:53

'Not ironing is definitely not chic. But that’s for another time.

People who use gift bags are definitely very next directory.'

Isn't stereotyping BRILLIANT. You get to dismiss whole swathes of individuals in a couple of patronising and judgemental clichés, this proving once again that most people would rather die than think.

I personally have far more interesting things to do with my life than spending hours ironing or wrapping gifts.

If I was judgemental I might use something like Only Full Women Have Immaculate Houses (and perfectly ironed socks and impeccably wrapped gifts).
Although I'm sure that can't be true...can it?

Devora13 · 31/12/2019 18:55

Only Dull Women. Darned autocorrect.

And if I were judgemental (sorry, forgot my subjunctive there, must have been busy ironing during that grammar class).

ManiacalLapwing · 31/12/2019 19:07

Haven't read the whole thread but gift bags are great. Write on the tag or don't, it's easily removed and not necessary. Reduce, reuse, recycle, in that order (sorry if there are now new steps in there but that's what I learnt). So reduce wrapping, reuse such as gift bags or fabric wrapping, recycle such as brown paper. Gift bags are good.

I could have written this, word for word!

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 31/12/2019 19:10

Look for 'sari bags' they're ace!

ManiacalLapwing · 31/12/2019 19:11

I was horrified at receiving a gift bag sellotaped shut. Had to carefully remove it, luckily the bag was undamaged.

MrsBadcrumble123 · 31/12/2019 19:13

Medal for most toffee-nosed twattish post of the day....

ChristmassySpice · 31/12/2019 19:20

Classics? Is that a piss take?

Totally agree MrsBadcrumble

MysweetAudrina · 31/12/2019 19:29

I make dh wear one over his head while I'm giving him head.

Diva66 · 31/12/2019 19:29

YABVVVU and quite stuck up. I’m disabled, I can put things in gift bags but I can’t cope with wrapping paper and sellotape.

Tompbabs1 · 31/12/2019 19:33

My autistic dd really enjoys opening presents everyone’s, so I put presents in large gift bags to give to each person otherwise no idea who’s present she has opened also have to hide all presents until opening time

FOTTFSOFTFOASM · 31/12/2019 19:37

@AnnDaloozier, what is your view on valances on beds?

I think they are the bed equivalents of loo mats (i.e. beyond the pale).

DP is a crashing snob, but thinks valances are a must.

So we are stuck in Valance No-Man's-Land.

numberoneson · 31/12/2019 19:41

Gift bags are an absolute boon for people with sore backs or hands as wrapping is hard on both. Also, they're pretty.

sjonlegs · 31/12/2019 19:57

Surely the point here is the gift itself .... the environment and doing what makes you feel good? Sometimes I use gift bags (usually recycled), sometimes I wrap, normally with lavish ribbons and luxury toffee's or chocolates tied to the bow, sometimes I use newspaper and print with potatoes .... I'm very VERY versatile in the sack too and have NEVER had any complaints ... just in case you were wondering?!?* Grin Shock
