There are so many threads with the New Year resolutions, weight loss discussions, advice and probably lies as well - so many words, so many things.
I have finally reached that point from which there is no turning back. I will do this, no matter what, but - please, help me. Those of you, the heroes who have really done it - please, name 3 main things that finally helped you to get rid of that weight.
Please.

Following the exercise and nutrition plan from the mas2fit app to make sure I am eating high volume low calorie food, in the right macros and in calorie deficit while toning with the 15 min workouts

Doodlepip1 · 31/12/2019 10:23

Intermittent fasting for me (I’m doing 20:4 but 16:8 is what most people do)

I actually plan on going vegan for January.

HITT/Crossfit (3-4 Week)

Running

I have lost 50lbs from sep 2017 till now.

I am 9st 8lb and started at 13st 3lb
I have 3 children

Firstly I did slimming world and XLS medical. (Sep17-jan18)

This helped me because slimmingworld had unlimited food in certain categories and at that time my appetite was constant and forever. It also kept me away from packaged sandwiches and croissants and helped me to cook.
I will never know if XLS done anything.

Then weighwatchers.(jan18-jan19)

I hit a plateau with slimmingworld and kept losing and regaining the same 3 lbs. I went with WW because I thought by then I had more will power to be able to make choices. At that time it was my 3rd try on ww but my first time after being able to lose weight. I learnt will power and which outside convinance foods have low points. It was more fun that slimmingworld.

Then Myfitnesspal

I also hit a plateau with ww and got fed with paying so I went to myfitnesspal and set the app at 1200 calories per day. During this time I also tried fasting and keto. But never stuck with it.

From june this year I started doing pilates videos on youtube which helped strengthen my core and make me feel stronger. But as I was losing body fat I lost my bum and wasnt happy.

Now I do pilates and weightlifting and eat when I'm hungry. I'm slowing getting rid of low fat and using high fat products.

Whilst I was dieting I ate lots of fruit but as I reached the end eating too much fruit was affecting my weight loss.

I am 9st 8lb and started at 13st 3lb
I have 3 children

I cut down portion sizes, did a programme called Piyo which is a yoga/pilates hybrid and low impact so pelvic floor safe. Also cut alcohol and tried to make healthier food choices but still had some treats.i lost 18lb in 12 weeks. Put 2lb back on during December, partially from Christmas overindulgence and partially because I have been ill for 3 weeks and unable to do any exercise. I am going to do 1 last round of ivf in January so will probably put a few lbs back on from the treatment but will be doing piyo again until the embryo transfer. If ivf fails I intend to buy an indoor rower and essentially do the same with some added cardio and possibly some strength training with resistance bands. Before I had my son I was very physically active but still had a slight belly, piyo is the only thing I have ever done that has really hit my abdomen/waistline and made major improvements. I would recommend it to anyone.

@Rafflesway thanks for replying. I’ve had my dosage upped once but have to have it checked again soon. My TSH (I’m sure that’s right) was only just above the upper end of normal that time so I’m worried that if it’s now just within normal next time I’m checked they won’t increase it. I don’t feel any different either in any other way since taking it.

I’m not even 30 yet and feel so sad that I’ll have to take this forever.

Well done on your weight loss and 5:2 is definitely something for me to consider.

UncleMatthewsEntrenchingTool · 31/12/2019 10:52

I have lost nearly 4.5 stone this year and gone from 13stone just touching obese BMI to just over 8.5stone.

Three main things

  1. No booze
  2. Low carb
  3. Portion sizes

Also intermittent fasting/ no breakfast - it’s not the most important meal of the day! Swimming, bit of running, Pilates but exercise is only about 10%.

2020newme · 31/12/2019 10:57

Many apologies if this is TMI.....

When I eat lots of veg, I get unwanted side effects, OK, let's just say it, I fart A LOT!!!

Does anyone have any advice on how to avoid this? I just made a huge batch of veg soup but am now stupidly reluctant to eat it as am going out tonight and don't want to embarrass myself Blush

xJodiex · 31/12/2019 10:59

Ketogenic. Lost a stone in 10 months without trying, hardly ever exercised.

xJodiex · 31/12/2019 11:00

@2020newme Food combining may help. No carbs with proteins etc.

maddy68 · 31/12/2019 11:03

Reducing carbs is the only thing that works for me

StrongTeaDropOfMilkNoSugar · 31/12/2019 11:06

I lost 4.5 stone in 2001 and have kept it off since. Back then I used the equivalent of My Fitness Pal by just jotting down the calories I ate and estimating what I burned through exercise (swimming). I tired to keep my net intake to 1200-1500 calories per day.

These days, I don’t calorie count, but what I learned back then about what was good to eat and what wasn’t has stuck with me so I’m generally pretty careful, and compensate by cutting back if I’ve indulged.

Nowadays I run rather than swim too.

BrowncoatWaffles · 31/12/2019 11:12

@spingly Thank you! It’s all a bit surreal. I've always been big and I’ve tried a few times over the years to do it but finally got there and it feels great although getting used to it is taking a while.

sittingonacornflake · 31/12/2019 11:20

Breastfeeding! Lost 4 stone!

2020newme · 31/12/2019 11:27

Oh yes! Breastfeeding! Easiest way to lose weight ever. I just sat on the sofa for months eating chocolate and feeding my babies and the weight just fell off.

Happy Days!

pumpandthump · 31/12/2019 11:39

sittingonacornflake lucky you. I just pile weight on breastfeeding.

XXXXXX42 · 31/12/2019 11:43

Eat less, exercise more.

I make time to walk the dog for a minimum of 30 minutes twice per day.

I swap out my meals for smaller portions of lean protein, lots of veg and some carb (50 % veg, 25% carb, 25% protein).

I don’t snack on anything except fruit, a tiny portion of nuts or thin sliced ham or veg sticks.

venusandmars · 31/12/2019 11:51

@2020newme I eat low-carb high fat and after decades of farting I now have the quietest gut ever. Even though I eat lots of veg.

What's in your veg soup? Does it have potatoes, sweet corn, parsnips etc? They are all quite dense in carbs.

2020newme · 31/12/2019 11:54

It has potato, cauli, onion, leeks, broccoli, garlic, carrot.

I think it's the onion and brassicas that do me in Blush but I feel it's really unhealthy not to eat greens (cabbage also causes farts)

spingly · 31/12/2019 12:35

@BrowncoatWaffles I bet you now clothes shop nonstop? You deserve to!

LadyAllegraImelda · 31/12/2019 20:27

Loving this thread! Motivated me to start running again today :) Thanks all!

lilgreen · 31/12/2019 20:28

Calorie counting on an app(YAZIO)

lilgreen · 31/12/2019 20:29

I rarely fart now my calories are 1300 per day.

lilgreen · 31/12/2019 20:30

I eat loads of green veg and wholesome carbs.

TowerRavenSeven · 31/12/2019 20:35

High protein, low carbs & sugar. Don’t let myself become too hungry because I’d then eat more than I wanted to at meals. Walking three times a week. Lots and lots of patience. I lose very slowly. It sucks and is hard.

SabineUndine · 31/12/2019 20:43

To all the people saying it's a matter of calories in vs calories out, yes, that's obvious.

However 'will power' isn't enough to keep most people on track on its own though and to be honest, if you're suggesting to most people it's about will power, it's like saying it's their own fault if they don't lose weight, they didn't have enough will power.

It's a question of finding a way of eating the right way so that you don't get hungry all the time. For me, that is a low carb/high protein 8:16 diet. It stops me from feeling hungry and encourages me to eat more protein, which I don't normally do.
