Too early to take the decorations down?

Ive just taken the tree down, as find the decorations depressing after Christmas is over, but my DD (24) thinks I have taken them down too soon. I know its unlucky having them up after 6th January but is there a date that is too soon to take them down.

I put them up in November as we were away for 3 weeks of December, so they have been up a while, I feel bad that I have upset my DD though.

I always take down before NYE, but this year was the 28th because I have a busy day today and then am working the 30th and 31st. The tree only went up on the 21st so it hasn’t been a long time, but I spent yesterday tidying & cleaning, & now everything looks better although I do miss the lights.

Sparklybaublefest · 29/12/2019 07:32

I dont like them down but then i dont put them up very early.

babychampam · 29/12/2019 07:34

I've taken everything down but the tree. Dcs wanted to keep it up a bit longer so it'll go down on the 1st or 2nd.

I like it down before we go back to school and work.

DappledThings · 29/12/2019 07:34

You would hate to live in Sweden. The lights stay up well into January!
As they mostly do here too. Ours stay up till Twelth Night, all commercial and council ones do.

10storeylovesong · 29/12/2019 07:35

Mine are down. I'm working nights all this weekend, and then on my days off my DH is working 8-8. We both had a couple of hours at home yesterday so got them done while he was supervising the kids.

PianoTuner567 · 29/12/2019 07:40

I think it depends when you put them up. We didn’t put them up until the 15th and we will take them down on 1/2nd Jan. But I suppose if you put them up 1st Dec, you’d want them down by now.

bulletjournalbilly · 29/12/2019 07:42

Mine are down. Can't stand it, once Boxing Day is over they're down

Ponoka7 · 29/12/2019 07:42

The problem was that you put them up too early.

Everyone on my FB whose taken theirs down, has had them up since November.

It's still the Christmas season, November wasn't, so I can see your DD's POV. I prefer going to NY House parties etc with the decorations still up.

I get a real tree, so I'll wait until it wilts or Jan 6th. If I'm very busy and go passed Jan 6th, I leave my outside natural wreath up and my dining room decorations/artificial tree up, until Feb 2nd (Candlemas).

JustACog · 29/12/2019 07:43

Ours came down yesterday.

ByeFeliciaa · 29/12/2019 07:55

I put mine up on the 21st of December and they came down on the 27th Grin

Strawberrycreamsundae · 29/12/2019 07:56

Mine came down last night, had been up a week which is plenty long enough for me (last year the tree was only up for 72 hours!)
I hate it dragging on to Twelfth night (and I'm far from superstitious unlike my mother).
If we hadn't had the DCs and dgcs coming I wouldn't have bothered at all (I really don't like Christmas).

funinthesun19 · 29/12/2019 07:59

Mine are all down now. To me Christmas is done now and the focus is on New Year and feeling organised with a clear mind.

Teaandalemontart · 29/12/2019 08:08

Oh I can't take mine down before the 6th. Was always taught it's bad luck to remove them before and I don't need any of that this year.

CondeNasty · 29/12/2019 08:12

Mine came down yesterday along with a good house clean up. We are away for a few days and then have some precious time just the two of us as DC are at Grandparents.

I have kept my poinsettia and some sparkly lights which are to be new fixtures. They just look lovely.

CasperGutman · 29/12/2019 08:12

Good grief, what a miserable bunch you all are. TWELVE days of Christmas, and some of you are taking the decs down after one sixth of them. 😔

Awks · 29/12/2019 08:20

We've had a bereavement over Christmas and I just want it all to be over. Am taking them down this morning and feel semi sad but don't want to come back from the funeral and see them all cheery.

RainbowSlide · 29/12/2019 08:24

I think we'll have to take ours down soon, our tree is infested with spiders that are now laying eggs in their webs and there's no amount of bug spray that seems to kill them... 😫🕷🕸😱

RainbowSlide · 29/12/2019 08:24

(We're in Australia)

GrannyBags · 29/12/2019 08:29

Ours go up in or before December 1st and will come down in stages - mist will come down on 12th night but the dining room tree will stay up till end of Jan as we live far away from relations and friends and still have two families to fit in for Christmas dinner, complete with crackers, presents and everything. Has done this for years and haven’t noticed any bad luck or anything

BeanTownNancy · 29/12/2019 08:30

I usually have the decorations up on 1st December and down on 1st January. However, this year I'm returning to work on 2nd January after 8 months of maternity leave and so I want my house as tidy as possible for then, so I took the decorations down on 27th to get my house straight.
Plus, husband has had the lurgy all over Christmas so we haven't been feeling hugely festive.

Heismyopendoor · 29/12/2019 08:31

Put ours up the first weekend in December. DH took them down, at my request, yesterday. I hate all the mess, clutter, etc.

Isbii · 29/12/2019 08:35

Mine always come down on 26th or 27th.

GreenFieldsOfFrance · 29/12/2019 08:40

Mine were down and the place back to normal by mid day yesterday, via a broken hoover from me thinking i could just hoover up massive piles of needles the tree had left!

Mummy2one2016 · 29/12/2019 08:54

We have visitors this year so my tree is still up but I'm desperate to take it down. I like to start the new year a fresh with a nice clean house free from decorations

TwinMum89 · 29/12/2019 08:56

We took ours down yesterday. Living room was a mess and I just wanted our living room back.
