To ask where you buy decent quality bedding these days

I feel like I'm forever searching for decent quality (doesn't feel like scratchy cardboard) duvet cover sets! I've tried Wilco, Asda and Argos. They're either hideous patterns or feel really hard / scratchy.

I look in dunelm yesterday and it was all frilly or cosy over £80!!!

@1Morewineplease the secret is to use a quality thick pillow protector. Won't stop it totally but will slow it down considerably!

Bedeck, tkmaxx, Ikea.

No horrible polycotton, that stuff is scratchy and vile. Don't know how people can stand it!

Also, make sure your washing machine is clean. If there is product build up everything will come out scratchy.

M&S Egyptian Cotton 230 thread bedding. Wash it then tumble dry it and you don’t need to iron it. Comes in 22 plain colours. Reasonably priced, but wait until they have one of their frequent 20% off events and then fill your boots.

Only downside is that it is finished in something that eliminates the need to iron it. The fabric is ever so slightly shiny and it makes it a bit cold to the touch when you first get into bed. Otherwise thoroughly recommend it!

MaButterface · 28/12/2019 23:19

If you catch M&S sales at the right time, you can get the 1000 TC beddings for very good price.

newbingepisodes · 28/12/2019 23:25

John Lewis.
But in general most bedding thats 100% cotton is usually good. The higher the thread count the softer and more luxurious is feels. Debenhams usually have good bedding sale this time of year.
Avoid anything that's polyester etc just go with cotton.

Notso · 29/12/2019 00:08

I’ve never understood why people buy cheap bedding when on a per hour of use basis it will probably cost you less than almost any piece of clothing you’ve ever owned.

Because they don't have the initial £300 outlay your talking about but still need bedding Hmm

I like H&M and Ikea. We have a good thick crumpled cotton set from Dunelm but have had some crappy ones from there too.

Lotsalotsagiggles · 29/12/2019 00:09

Zara home is the softest I've found - love their sales

Instagrrr · 29/12/2019 00:12

H&M bedding is 100% cotton and fab quality. They also have those small open hems in the corners so you can grab them when changing them 🤩

glasshalfsomething · 29/12/2019 00:15

Try Matalan. Always had some success there!

OntheWaves40 · 29/12/2019 00:16

M&S, Next home, Debenhams

TheDogsMother · 29/12/2019 00:25

Homesense stock high thread count hotel quality and good quality designer ranges.

MentalHealth101 · 29/12/2019 00:26

BandM

RadicalFern · 29/12/2019 00:27

I like Ikea stuff - there's a range of prices but the higher end stuff is lovely quality, restrained designs and doesn't break the bank.

DuchessMinnie · 29/12/2019 00:31

I have a duvet cover from Next which is 24 years old and still looks great. My son uses it regularly and it hasn't dated as it's a check print. I also have a White Company sheet which is over 10 years old. The new stuff from both shops is nowhere near what it used to be.

Ken1976 · 29/12/2019 00:34

I buy Dorma bedding. Usually from dunhelm but I think TJ Hughes do it too.

Graphista · 29/12/2019 01:04

Erm...if you’ve tried several different places can I kindly suggest either you have very sensitive skin (as do I) or you need to consider it may be your laundering technique/products?

If you’re using straight out the packaging you may be responding to their laundering technique, some companies lightly starch bedding before packing to prevent them developing creases during packing/transport.

Mummyshark2019 · 29/12/2019 01:04

Get mine online from Justlinen.co.uk. top brands with high thread counts, all at great prices. www.justlinen.co.uk/justlinen/m/index.asp

ChocolateCoins19 · 29/12/2019 01:06

Never had issue with asda, tesco etc. The set on the bed now is prob 5 yrs old from. Asda. Not rough, bobbly or faded.
I like dunelm too

StarbucksSmarterSister · 29/12/2019 01:09

Laura Ashley. I buy in the sale and it lasts for years. I currently have some on the bed that I bought 9 or 10 years ago. It has faded very slightly due to washing over all that time but otherwise is as good as new.

NannyR · 29/12/2019 01:12

I've had really nice bedding from ikea, but the quality does vary - the cheaper sets are not great but the set I have on at the moment was about £30 and is lovely thick, smooth cotton. It's a nice muted, small geometric pattern too.

christma5isover · 29/12/2019 09:02

Get as higher thread count as you can afford. The one that's on my bed now is 400 and never had any issues re washing and drying. Think it's M&S.

MoobaaMoobaa · 29/12/2019 09:55

I found, I think it was 1200 not sure but it was over 1000, King size duvet set with pillow cases in The Range last year.

it was on the sale shelves with no price on, it was the only one in the shop with that level thread. I took it to get a price and it was on sale at £40 Shock

It does crease very easily but feels so luxurious. I keep looking in The Range for more, either to see how much it should have been or fine another discounted one. But no luck at all.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 29/12/2019 10:02

John Lewis for all our bedding and we only buy 100% cotton. It's the polycotton stuff that feels scratchy.

Generally speaking you get what you pay for. I usually find that the big department stores are better (house of Fraser, John Lewis) but i bought two sheets from Debenhams once and was unimpressed.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 29/12/2019 10:04

I buy mine at John Lewis. Not a cheap option but great quality and was beautifully.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 29/12/2019 10:04

*WASH beautifully.

SillyUnMurphy · 29/12/2019 10:05

Aldi do 300 count Egyptian cotton in their special buys a couple of times a year. It’s lovely bedding and no patterns or frills. Have a look on their website they might have some sets left
