To ask where you buy decent quality bedding these days

I feel like I'm forever searching for decent quality (doesn't feel like scratchy cardboard) duvet cover sets! I've tried Wilco, Asda and Argos. They're either hideous patterns or feel really hard / scratchy.

I look in dunelm yesterday and it was all frilly or cosy over £80!!!

I love the bedding from Next, they usually have a good selection and has never failed me

It's awful in my experience - it's great when you first use their fitted sheets but after a while they lose their crispness and also they wrinkle up like they are too big for the mattress and are really uncomfortable. I've no idea what the solution is, it's as if I've bought a size too big when I haven't.

M&S Egyptian cotton. I think my sheets are 400 thread count, but my duvet covers and pillow cases are non-iron.

They wash like a dream, stay really soft and appear to last forever.

wetpants · 28/12/2019 19:46

You are shopping in the wrong places. I agree 100% cotton is the best but I have John Lewis polycotton fitted sheets and they are still excellent 10 years later.

Next is usually good too and good value. I agree their childrens bedding isn’t as good. Look great but colours fade quickly.

The White company is good and so is M&S. Good quality will cost but the bedding will also last for years without going bobbly.

Ikea has some good quality, 100% cotton duvet covers too. I personally avoid anything brushed cotton or sateen finish though, nice at first but won’t wash well in the long run.

Hampton & Astley-their cotton bedding feels so gorgeous! For autumn/winter, cozee home from abc is amazing-for the first time ever as a grown up its made me want to stay buried in bed on these cold mornings!

greenlynx · 28/12/2019 19:49

I usually buy M&S on sale, mainly after Xmas and also have one set from Next - all are really nice quality, no complaints.

bridgetreilly · 28/12/2019 19:50

TKMaxx/Homesense. I really like Clarissa Hulse and I've bought some beautiful sets by her from there over the years.

Musmerian · 28/12/2019 19:51

Brand Alley have lots of excellent reduced stuff. I got two Lyndon Company King Duvet Covers for £40 apiece. 400 thread count and lovely - reduced from £150. White Company are great quality but pricey.

OverByYer · 28/12/2019 19:52

M&S do a value range I bought a nice kind size duvet cover for there for £16

DivisionBelles · 28/12/2019 19:52

Soak and Sleep are good and always seem to have discount vouchers floating around. I work in hospitality and we get a lot of bed linen from here. Guests often comment on the quality and softness.

White Company sale? I love their bedding.

bluenoir · 28/12/2019 19:57

Dusk bedding is nice and soft and very cheap, I've only bought pillowcases so far as that's all in need but they're nice.

We had some top of the range high thread count from Dunelm once and it was still shit.

LionelRitchieStoleMyNotebook · 28/12/2019 19:59

Joules bedding feels nice but fades in sunlight! The set on the guest bed had a light patch across it from the window. Dunelm and John Lewis are always decent and you can get good deals on brand alley , I tend to buy in the sales. I do love brushed cotton for winter and that's all snuggly wherever you get it from.

Henlie · 28/12/2019 20:01

Another one here for the White Company.....it’s not cheap, but always washes well and keeps its shape.

Purpletigers · 28/12/2019 20:02

Use a fitted sheet and a top sheet and then the duvet doesn’t touch you . I buy my bed linen in M and s mostly . Got lots of dorma sheets when we got married and they’ve lasted very well . They don’t make brushed cotton top sheets anymore when I prefer in winter .

Purpletigers · 28/12/2019 20:02

Bedeck is very good too .

commoncoot · 28/12/2019 20:03

Thanks! So great places to try thank you ... never would have thought of next or joules

White company hugely overpriced even on sale. And I find not that long lasting: I’ve spent today repairing pillow cases and a duvet cover that are around 8 years old. John Lewis I find that the fitted sheets shrunk and the elastic dies far too soon considering the price. Agreed 200 thread count or more will give a nicer feel. Polycotton makes me sweat, but if it doesn’t do that to you then it’s very soft and hard wearing. The whole thing can be rather hit and miss: you need to feel it in the shop, then hope it stands up to use and washing. Keep receipts!

CarrotBarrot · 28/12/2019 20:04

All our recent purchases have come from
TK Maxx, although we aren't that bothered about matching and patterns; just want good 100% cotton stuff and they normally have something.

avocadotofu · 28/12/2019 20:04

I always get ours from John Lewis.

Pulledcrackers · 28/12/2019 20:04

Are you anywhere near a Boundary Mill store? Fantastic range there, brands like Christy, Bedeck, Sheridan. Also John Lewis House of Fraser or Debenhams sales.

Namethecat · 28/12/2019 20:05

I like M & S but recently I purchased one that the seam was not sewn properly.
And for a bizarre reason another set, the pillow cases wore out very quickly and had holes in.

CatOnABeanbag · 28/12/2019 20:05

Both Next and John Lewis have quite a lot left in the sales (or did when I looked online earlier). I've bought some Scion bedding from TKMaxx before at a really good price- it's lovely and soft, and good quality cotton.

ProudAunty2nine · 28/12/2019 20:05

I bought a set from Aldi just because it had a aran type knitted pattern on it and I am a knitter. Although it took longer than expected to arrive (ordered online) it was well worth the wait the best set I have ever bought feels lovely on the bed washes and irons beautifully ... by far the best duvet set I have bought in a very long time

bingbangbing · 28/12/2019 20:06

Ikea!

All of ours comes from there.

It's all plain white and has been boil washed (I like clean bedding) a million times and is like new.
