Having seen this article today:

AIBU to think that 8 is the only way? Why would you do it any other way!

7 when writing words, 8 when doing maths
I never realised before that I do it differently Shock

AlphaJura · 28/12/2019 02:04

I do 8 and never really thought about it, but recently I noticed that my 11 year old dd writes quite a few numbers the opposite way I do! I thought maybe they are taught differently these days.

blaaake · 28/12/2019 02:06

I do 5 and I am genuinely shocked to see I am in the minority!! What is wrong with you all Grin surely 5 is the easiest? I've just tried a few of them and it felt like it was taking too much time and effort to do it those ways?

blaaake · 28/12/2019 02:08

Never mind I've just realised I do 6! Even worse Confused

I wonder if its a lefty/right thing? So your dominant hand dictates which side you start on.

Cineraria · 28/12/2019 02:18

I do 7 if I have to do an x like that.

Normally I do an old fashioned curly type of x, a bit like a back to front c and a normal c touching in the middle, so 7 starts in the same place which is where my hand would naturally go to start an x.

SpaceCadet4000 · 28/12/2019 02:25

8, left handed. If I did it with my right hand I would do 7.

Seeingadistance · 28/12/2019 02:28

Generally you'd want to end up on the right, either top or bottom, to continue with the next letter. That leaves 1, 5, 7 and 8.

I'm right handed and an 8. It's the only way. Educated on the continent.

Tartyflette · 28/12/2019 02:34

3 or 8 - am mostly a lefty but slightly ambidextrous. I didn't know I did it two ways until I tried this out.

steff13 · 28/12/2019 02:37

8, also left-handed.

Nottheblondeone · 28/12/2019 02:43

I do a 7

Nottheblondeone · 28/12/2019 02:43

Right handed

FairyBatman · 28/12/2019 02:45

5 if it’s notes or a x on a card. 7 if I’m Neón neat or precise.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 28/12/2019 02:45

I mostly do 8 but sometimes 7.
Actually, I don't even know if I do 7 or 8 now - I've tried both and they're as easy as each other for me, so I've kind of lost the hang of which I'd do usually!!

I was going to say I do 9 for curly maths x, but I don't, because I start both of those curves at the top, left curve first then right curve.

I'm British - just noticed that one of the comments in the link suggested that Brits tend to do 5 or 6 - nope, not me.

  1. Thought that’s how everyone did it
UmmH · 28/12/2019 03:09

7...no 8...no 7...argh! I don't know now. Time for bed, perchance to dream of EXs.
