Couldn't find "Chat" on my phone!

Does anyone have any views as to which car? Personal experiences? Pros and cons?

Any insights would be gratefully received

Thanks!

Also to clarify- it would be secondhand, a couple of years old or so, low mileage

Our qashqui was bloody cursed. It was a 64 plate top of the range model. Had it about 18 months before we replaced it. Not the cars fault but I had 4 flat damaged tyres within the first 6 months. Been driving 10 years and had only ever had one flat before.

Then the air con pump went. And was on back order for the entire summer while they waited for one to be made! Finally got it fixed in the November. 7 months wait.

Then I hit a corner in multi storey car park (although this was my fault).

Then a van drove into the side of me and drove off without stopping, needed a new drivers door, wing mirror and 2 panels. Guess what! Wing mirror went on flipping back order! We were without the car for 3 sodding months while they waited for a wing mirror.

So yes car was cursed and there definitely seems to be an issue with replacement parts.

pinkstripeycat · 27/12/2019 17:32

Rav 4 much better. So much more room inside. Boot much bigger. It looks compact but inside it’s like a tardis.

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 27/12/2019 17:45

Nissan are arseholes they left me and my DH without a vehicle living rurally at 9 months pregnant for a recall that was down to them that they then refused to fix, I had to borrow money from my 90 year old uncle to get a new car as my DH is reliant on it for work. DO NOT GET A NISSAN!

Glitterkitten24 · 27/12/2019 17:53

We have a Rav and I love it! Brilliant in snow, a really nice drive and very sturdy. Has never really cost us much to maintain, touch wood no major issues.
It’s nearly 10 years old now but with a private plate on I think it still looks in great nick, doesn’t look it’s age at all.

HugeAckmansWife · 27/12/2019 17:55

Not a Quashqi but I've had a Note for 10 years and it's been completely reliable, comfortable, spacious. Would definitely get a Nissan again.

YogaDrone · 27/12/2019 17:56

You're not comparing the same type of car here. The Nissan list price starts at about £20k car and the Rav4 starts at over £30k. If you can afford it get the Rav4; it's a better car all round.

The Toyota is also a hybrid (although I don't know how long they've been hybrids for so I guess a used one may not be).

JayAlfredPrufrock · 27/12/2019 17:58

I’ve been driving my Toyota Land Cruiser for many many years.

Toyotas have staying power.

Plannymcplanface · 27/12/2019 18:14

Look at Carwow YouTube channel , loads of reviews comparing different cars in same class. Does what top gear used to do about 20 years ago .

EmmaGrundyForPM · 27/12/2019 18:19

we have a Rav. It's now quite old but has never gone wrong. I love it. It's very spacious and a great car to drive.

The only downside is that the fuel economy is poor.

makingmammaries · 27/12/2019 18:23

Our Qashqai is a bit crap. Not very fuel efficient, poor acceleration, hard to demist front windscreen, had some mechanical issues. Oh, and the extra two seats, in the +2, are a joke - basically cushions on the floor, no legroom.

jayde28 · 27/12/2019 18:27

I had a 66 (late 2016) qashqai and loved it. It was big enough but not too big. I had the Tekna range so had all the bits and bobs like automatic breaking etc. I would def recommend it but would agree with a PP that fuel economy wasn't the best. I had the 1.2 and whilst it was getting repaired due to a crash had a 1.6 model where the fuel economy etc was so much better.
I now have a VW Tiguan and would recommend that as the best suv I've driven.

Binterested · 27/12/2019 18:31

I’ve got the RAV 4 Hybrid. Really like it. I’m no Jeremy Clarkson - barely any interest in cars but all I know is it’s roomy, comfortable, fuel efficient.

GinDaddy · 27/12/2019 18:33

Both of them hateful "lifestyle" vehicles that might as well come as part of a middle-class "starter pack" along with a MyWaitrose card. Qashqai has so many documented problems with auto gearboxes, DPFs... and RAV4 hybrid doesn't make up for horrible ride quality. No thanks.

Nat6999 · 27/12/2019 18:34

Nissan qashqai is awful, another one to look at is a Hyundai Tucson, I'm on my second one, I had the 1.7 diesel one first & now have the 1.6 turbo 177bhp petrol one, it is very nippy, has loads of equipment, leather, heated seats, satnav, tons of safety features, loads of room in it, is comfortable to drive even for long distances, fairly big boot. Best thing is to look for ex motability cars, most have low mileage & have been well maintained & often have extra equipment like parking sensors & rear camera.

Binterested · 27/12/2019 18:37

I don’t understand a word of gindaddy’s postGrin Should I have a car that doesn’t fit with my lifestyle ? Confused I do have a mywaitrose card because I live one minute from Waitrose and get a newspaper for free with it. It’s usually The Times. Is that good or bad ?

pinkhousesarebest · 27/12/2019 18:38

We looked at the Rav but it felt small in the back and a bit flimsy so we went for (another) Honda CRV which feels so solid and safe.

KTD27 · 27/12/2019 18:39

Loved our qashqai but it was cursed too. Horrid horrid service. Now have a Hyundai and love it so much more

GinDaddy · 27/12/2019 18:42

@Binterested

Hmm I have a myWaitrose card too if we're doing a roll call.. it was an ironic reference to contextualise my thoughts on what I find to be two cars in a very silly automotive segment

Kuponut · 27/12/2019 18:48

I looked at them but they just didn't work well for DH's height in the interior. We have a Hyundai and I'm very happy with that one now (like someone else mentioned on here previously)

44PumpLane · 27/12/2019 18:52

I had a note and now have a qashqai, it's a petrol 1.2 and although I love it it has zero pull. Like absolutely nothing.

I don't mind and in fact find it quite good as its the car I use with my 3 year old twins and it enforces extra care when driving as you can't nip out or nip and overtake anyone so I literally never take chances in it which makes me feel safe.

My parents had a rav 4 from brand new until they drove it into the ground, they loved that vehicle. They had a short wheel base (3 door) and it was very spacious inside and lovely and a pleasure to drive.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 27/12/2019 18:52

I'm actually typing this from the backseat of our Rav. Dh and ds1 are in.the front, ds2 (6ft 2) and me are in the back. There's loads of leg room and head height for all of us.

SteelRiver · 27/12/2019 20:33

I had the last model Qashqai and was disappointed with it. Looks & interior wise it was fine but the 1.5 engine in quite a fair sized car just wasn't powerful enough. I don't think I would have another.
We now have the new self charging hybrid RAV4. It is very big and seems to be built like a tank but it's a dream to drive. We have the 2.5l AWD automatic model; we live rurally in Scotland and are looking forward to testing it out this winter. Its very comfortable and roomy inside. The boot is enormous. Our only real grumbles are the smallish glovebox and the lack of volume on the inbuilt satnav; it's hard enough to hear the directions when the radio is on and Impossible when it is.
My husband said he is making savings on petrol costs, too.

Hellofromtheotherside2020 · 27/12/2019 20:50

I had a 2017 qashqai and I really liked it (I'm in the minority clearly!). I found it so easy to drive, like so smooth with the clutch and steering.
I needed to get a 7 seater as we have another (4th) baby on the way, and I like in Australia so do a lot of off roading, so have just got an Land Rover discovery sport. It's nice, but I do miss qashqai!

Dad used to have a rav and loved it.
