Couldn't find "Chat" on my phone!

Does anyone have any views as to which car? Personal experiences? Pros and cons?

Any insights would be gratefully received

Thanks!

This class of vehicle is not my cuppa but a friend has a Kia Sportage which seems high spec and reliable.

Treacletoots · 27/12/2019 21:03

DHs quashqai was also a nightmare. The engine blew up way way before it should, 11 plate and it had been serviced whenever it needed it, so less than 8 years old and 80k miles.

We ended up dragging it to a local dealer and part exchanged it for a Volvo. Avoid like the plague.

Treacletoots · 27/12/2019 21:08

Have you considered a Jeep? I got myself a renegade and it's been a fabulous medium sized car, oodles of space thanks to the boxy shape and noone cuts me up anymore as it looks far more imposing than it actually is. Engine good, with plenty of pull, 55mpg and lots of tech as standard. I think I may get another when my contract is up

Itsmybirthday19 · 27/12/2019 21:14

I have a 13 plate Qashqai. Sorry to report that I've never had even the slightest issue with it. Manual, mind.

I do also have a MyWaitrose card and a Times subscription - perhaps that makes a difference?

StayClassySally · 27/12/2019 21:30

Nissan are Renault underneath and they aren't known for their reliability. I loved a qashqai I had. 2017 1.6dCi 130bhp. Equal to the sportage (2018) I had really spec wise. Both were top of the range. Would highly recommend either of those. Tucson is a bit old and basic on the inside now. RAV4 is a marmite car. A bit ugly.

I recommend the 3008 or sportage. Peugeot were the most reliable manufacturer this year according to fleet news.

probablynotrelevant · 27/12/2019 21:35

I have a qashqai, 1.6 tekna. Love it. Only changing it as I need something bigger, so getting an X Trail. Have had Nissans for years.

Nat6999 · 27/12/2019 22:02

I have a 2019 reg Tucson, the features are not outdated, it was 3 years from when I got my first Tucson & the improvement is unbelievable, the safety features are fantastic, the driving experience is wonderful, comfort is up with many more expensive SUV's. Driving a Tucson is one of the best driving experiences I have had, it handles all road conditions you can throw at it without any doubt & I would not choose a more expensive car over one. I test drive an Audi Q2 S Line before I chose my newest Tucson & it couldn't beat the Tucson in any way.

WanderingAimlessly · 27/12/2019 22:12

I loved our Rav 4 and miss it. It was a company lease and had to go back after 3 years. It was brilliant. Reliable, clever storage and roomy. We has two kids in car seats in the back with plenty room for Nana as well, and a Labrador in it for lots of long trips. We had a boot cage divider one side for the dog and the other for loads of luggage. It ate up the miles, worked in the snow, on sand, muddy, rutted lanes, steep hills. Brilliant family car for country folk who also need to be a bit ‘city’ sometimes!

MyNameIsMrsGrumpy · 27/12/2019 22:16

We call mine the crap qai

It’s appalling, always going wrong, uncomfortable to drive, not the best on fuel, despite being a 1.6 zero pull I mean absolutely nothing..did I mention bits going wrong?? Must have cost me 1k already this year, It’s the biggest pile of crap going...

On the other hand I love my Honda CRV, it’s beautiful and everything the crap qai isn’t!!

I may Potter off and have a look at the rav4 now

HeyHeyWhatever · 28/12/2019 02:49

Thank you!

Seems overwhelming against the Qashqai...!

We've seen a 17 plate 1.5 dci Qashqai, and a 17 plate 2.0 diesel Rav. Both less than 30k on the clock, and both the same price.

It seems the sensible choice would be the Rav, but I can't quite persuade myself to love it. I like it from the front, but the rear is boxy. Interior is...utilitarian. I loved the interior and extras on the Qashqai, but was worried about the gutless engine.

For what it's worth, we live rurally and for reasons we need a tall car, in case anyone else is questioning our "lifestyle" 😏 I'm now off to enjoy my free myWaitrose coffee and The Times...

I hear you OP - we needed a car which had enough height to fit 6 foot 7 DH and also tackle a very bad dirt track along to my mum's isolated house which is why we ended up looking at that car bracket.

I'd actually wanted a Nissan - I've had Nissans lots before (and it's kind of loyalty to being Sunderland born and bred as well), and apart from a hellish Micra that we don't talk about, they've been decent cars (I had a Note for years too), but the Qashqai just wasn't working as an idea for us. We settled on a Hyundai Tucson and it's been a cracking little car for us so far - tackles the off road bit we need it to very well, fits stupidly tall DH (who limits my car buying options so much) and the kids are nice and comfortable in the back (with a foldy down arm rest in the middle to settle the arguing over who's spread into whose space in the middle somewhat) and has a big boot to fit everything in. Ours is an ex-Motability car funnily enough - had a couple that have come through their system and they've been cracking motors. It's gone through minor flood waters, it's gone along a collection of potholes pretending to be a local road, it tackles the riverbank dirt track to my mum's no problem.

I do not own a Waitrose card, we do not HAVE a local Waitrose (the nearest one closed down and reopened as an Aldi) and I don't read The Times. I'm about as un-MN as you get demographically.

probablynotrelevant · 28/12/2019 13:00

Why don't you look at an x-trail? The new ones look just like a qashqai but bigger (which is why I am swopping). If you get the tekna with a bigger engine, it has all the features, 360 camera etc. I am getting the 1.6 x trail.

FartingInTheFence · 28/12/2019 15:56

I wouldnt piss on any Nissan even if it were on fire.

Qashit's are, well, SHIT. Inside and out. Ditton all fucking Friday-afternoon built shite from France too.

Far better options:

Honda CR-V
Hyundai Santa Fe
Hyundai Tuscon
Kia Sportage
Honda HR-V
Toyota C-HR
Kia Sorenta
Subaru Forester
Mazda CX3
Mazda CX5
Ford Kuga

Lots out there. Waste your money on a piece of shit Nissan at your own peril OP.....

ForalltheSaints · 28/12/2019 16:00

Others have commented on the merits or not of the two cars.

I'd still suggest you look for a smaller car, even though you do not negotiate the north face of the Kings Road.

JellyfishandShells · 28/12/2019 16:01

We test drove a Qashqai and both though the interior felt cramped- my DH, 6’ 2” , thought the ceiling felt low at a comfortable driving position.

billyt · 28/12/2019 18:45

Farting in the fence - sorry, but you are a twat.

After having company cars until 2013 I had several Ford Focus hatchbacks. After some stupid woman side-swiped me on a junction of the M40 last year (actually told me her satnav had said to go around the roundabout again!!)of I was loaned a Qashqai for a couple weeks. When I was looking to replace my Focus earlier this year I test drove a few cars. Mercedes A-Class, new Focus etc. I changed my mind on another Focus and got a Qashqai Tekna+. It's a 1.3 petrol and goes like s**t. A real pleasure to drive. Better fuel economy than my Focus, more room, more comfortable, better view as higher, more storage space, etc.

ContinuityError · 28/12/2019 19:26

If you want 4wd then check out which models come with it.

Personally I’d favour the Toyota as they are pretty much bullet proof if you’re looking for a long term buy - our 53 plate RAV4 is still going strong.

Toomanyapplesinthefruitbowl · 28/12/2019 19:34

Be prepared for a long wait though if you want a RAV4, mine has been on order since May Hmm Apparently they’ve been overwhelmed with orders

FartingInTheFence · 28/12/2019 19:46

Wow @billyt , who pissed in your chips?

Fact is, the Nissan Qashit is shit.

It has never and will never be top of the reliabilty charts. It has piss poor residuals, it has more faults than other competing models which are bigger and have more room and offer more kit.

Enough evidend on these two pages alone that highlight how shit the Qashit is. Just because you like yours doesnt change the reality that it is a piece of cheap crap from the Renault parts bin.

And the fact that you chose a Qashit over its competing rivals demonstrates that you know nothing at all about cars. I dont profess to any everything either - but there is one fact I do know - that Nissan's are fucking shite - specifically the Qashite.

Maneandfeathers · 28/12/2019 20:11

Tiguan? Mine was brilliant.

TheFairyCaravan · 28/12/2019 20:18

but there is one fact I do know - that Nissan's are fucking shite - specifically the Qashite.

We had a brand new Nissan Joke for a year. It was the worst, and most dangerous, car we've ever had. My dad is a car dealer and won't have Qashqais or Jokes on his forecourt because they are more trouble than they're worth.
