DH is making himself ill because he always has to be right

After a bit of a hunt this morning, I've just located a whole raw chicken in our car after DH obviously forgot to bring it in with the rest of the food shopping on the morning of the 23rd December (I had gone out to a different shop for a few more little bits in my car so he was left to do the unpacking from his car).

I am clearly annoyed and insisting the slightly green chicken is bad now but he is adamant it's fine as leaving the chicken in a cold car for two days is as good as leaving it in the fridge apparently. No idea on the temp here but it's been raining/a bit sunny here in Wiltshire during these last two days.

I'm certain he's just saying this because he's a stubborn person who, if I said the grass was green he'd argue that it was pink. Doesn't do it to anyone else, just me. He always has to be right. I've said the chicken is bad and so he's insisting it's perfectly fine to eat and is now cooking it. I'm pissed off knowing there's a strong possibility he's going to ruin boxing day being sat on the toilet the whole time which is just great when we have two young children. Is he bu for eating it or aibu (it is safe and I should leave him to it)?

He’s an idiot. Why does he do this to you?

EBearhug · 25/12/2019 12:33

It has been comparatively mild, and not as cold as a fridge, so I wouldn't.

DukeChatsworth · 25/12/2019 12:35

He’s an idiot who might end up with campylobacter. That was 9 day’s of fun where I thought I might die. Good luck to him and the hill he’s choosing to die on Crown Envy

BaronessBomburst · 25/12/2019 12:35

It's been 10c here, and with the sun shining on the car as well, definitely warmer than a fridge.
Do not let the children have any!

FudgeBrownie2019 · 25/12/2019 12:36

YANBU at all. Don't eat it, don't let the DC eat it. If your DH eats it ensure he knows you'll be contributing nothing to the marathon clean up operation he'll be requiring after 16 hours on the porcelain phone to God.

Is he often this much of a tool or just today?

Gogreen · 25/12/2019 12:37

His a twat, if he is ill are you left to do everything?

If he eats it and is fine it will be ‘I told you so’

I’d tell him to get lost, and stop acting like a child. If he wants to be so argumentative he can move out and find someone else to do that silly school boy stuff with.

FGSJoanWhatsWrongWithYou · 25/12/2019 12:37

When a chicken goes off the smell would leave nobody in any doubt. Maybe it is fine after all.

Cacklingmags · 25/12/2019 12:37

Make sure he eats plenty of it. Give the kids some stuffing and sausages.

GertrudeCB · 25/12/2019 12:38

He is an idiot.
I spent 5 days in hospital with salmonella poisoning.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 25/12/2019 12:41

I'm following this to see if the world falls out of his arse.

churchandstate · 25/12/2019 12:45

Oh heck no. It’s been 9-10 degrees here, going down to 1-2 at night, so the chicken is sitting in a warming metal boot all afternoon. 🤢 And I’m the world’s least fussy person.

MyMajesty · 25/12/2019 12:46

He may be fine, but that doesn't meaning eating the chicken is a good idea.
Definitely don't let the DC eat any of it, and don't have any yourself.

Sexnotgender · 25/12/2019 12:49

What an idiot.

My DH left sandwiches in the car this summer that he’d bought for cricket tea - the next day! It was 20 degrees in the car, sandwiches were a mix with some prawn and tunaEnvy
Luckily I asked where they were, he thought it would be fine. In fairness he listened and went and got them immediately.

Elieza · 25/12/2019 12:50

A fridge is 3degrees. Is it that temp or below in the car boot? You can check the ‘met office’ weather app for your area. I’m thinking it may have gone well above that during the day. I wouldn’t risk eating the turkey. I wouldnt let the kids risk it either.
He can if he wants.

A couple of slices of cooked chicken from a pack or something else from the freezer with the Christmas veg would suffice for me.

Food poisoning can kill the weak or young. To quote a film ‘Do you feel lucky punk?’

Mintjulia · 25/12/2019 12:52

I’m just up the road from you. It was 11 degrees here yesterday and 9 degrees on the 23rd although it did freeze last night, so depending on what time he bought it, it’s had two days “out of the fridge”.

If he wants to eat it, fine, but I wouldn’t and neither would any dc.

CareOfPunts · 25/12/2019 12:53

Throw it in the bin, job done. It may well be fine but not worth the risk.

Rachelfromfriends1 · 25/12/2019 12:55

I’d let him eat it himself personally🤷🏼‍♀️ But make sure no one else touches it!

Rachelfromfriends1 · 25/12/2019 12:55

He can deal with the consequences

ClashCityRocker · 25/12/2019 12:55

Posts were up on social media yesterday warning people not to keep their Christmas meat outside as its too mild for it.

adaline · 25/12/2019 12:55

Just let him eat it. But don't let him give any to the DC - if he wants to make himself sick, leave him to it!

PlumsGalore · 25/12/2019 12:57

If it had just been left last night I may have been ok, but I live in the north. Two nights in Wiltshire? Nope. Not fit for the cats.

CareOfPunts · 25/12/2019 13:02

Just asked my husband, a chef and food hygiene stickler, and he said no.

NearlyGranny · 25/12/2019 13:03

The thing is, if he eats it and gets sick, it won't have been the chicken, will it? 🙄

When you married Mr Right, did you realise his middle name was Always?

beautifulstranger101 · 25/12/2019 13:03

Let him bloody eat it then! I wouldn't, and I wouldn't let the kids either. Then when he gets ill I'd have no sympathy at all- in fact I'd relish making snarky remarks Grin

Thelnebriati · 25/12/2019 13:05

Its not just that he will be ill, but that the chicken will be spreading bacteria through your kitchen. Everything it touches should be sterilised. I'd use a very hot solution of O2 laundry bleach, its safe to use on food items and metal.
