DH is making himself ill because he always has to be right

After a bit of a hunt this morning, I've just located a whole raw chicken in our car after DH obviously forgot to bring it in with the rest of the food shopping on the morning of the 23rd December (I had gone out to a different shop for a few more little bits in my car so he was left to do the unpacking from his car).

I am clearly annoyed and insisting the slightly green chicken is bad now but he is adamant it's fine as leaving the chicken in a cold car for two days is as good as leaving it in the fridge apparently. No idea on the temp here but it's been raining/a bit sunny here in Wiltshire during these last two days.

I'm certain he's just saying this because he's a stubborn person who, if I said the grass was green he'd argue that it was pink. Doesn't do it to anyone else, just me. He always has to be right. I've said the chicken is bad and so he's insisting it's perfectly fine to eat and is now cooking it. I'm pissed off knowing there's a strong possibility he's going to ruin boxing day being sat on the toilet the whole time which is just great when we have two young children. Is he bu for eating it or aibu (it is safe and I should leave him to it)?

What will happen if you say you and the kids aren’t going to eat it? Is that a thing you think you can do?

madcatladyforever · 25/12/2019 13:33

I hope his stomach turns inside out with vomiting for being such a massive prick.
keep us posted.

Crinkle77 · 25/12/2019 13:33

If it was really cold weather i'd say he's probably right but it's been quite mild so wouldn't risk it.

endofthelinefinally · 25/12/2019 13:36

Yes. It is the toxins that are dangerous.
Can be lethal.

Whereisthechicken · 25/12/2019 13:38

I'm definitely not going to be eating it and neither are the children! We have tons of sausages and a little bit of gammon I put in the fridge last night that we're having for dinner instead of the chicken.

Update - DH has finished cooking it and has cut it into small chunks of death for sandwiches (which only he will be eating). I don't think he'll be having any with his dinner but I will keep you posted when he does eat some so we can start some kind of shitsplosion count down. Although, he's military and has eaten a few awful things cooked and eaten with utensils cleaned with the clothing you've been wearing for a few days as they sometimes have to do so perhaps he's used to it.

I had campylobacter a few years ago and had to be hospitalised, I was so ill. And my stomach is normally cast iron. Not something to take risks with.

SunshineCake · 25/12/2019 13:41

Food poisoning from chicken is very serious. It makes you feel lousy and can make you intolerant to food stuffs as the bacteria stays in the stomach.

Do not allow anyone else to eat it. Tell him you will not be looking after him when he is ill and he will still be expected to parent his children.

A sign of a grown up is being able to admit when they are wrong..

RhinoskinhaveI · 25/12/2019 13:41

Does he see this as a test of his masculinity?

Ninkanink · 25/12/2019 13:49

Oh fgs what a twat. He’s welcome to it, I guess.

LostInTesco · 25/12/2019 13:50

The other thing is, it will contaminate things - so it can spread 😱

Sweetpea55 · 25/12/2019 13:56

Let him eat the naffing chicken then. And then he can shit himself to the far side of fuckery. And dont let him persuade you or the kids to eat any.

YouretheChristmasCarcass · 25/12/2019 13:57

The number of men who will actually risk harm to prove their point is astounding to me. From "I can jump that " to "I can eat that possibly rotten chicken" is amazing. I may be stubborn, but I'd never risk harm or getting ill to prove my point.

Good luck to him. Stock the loo with loo roll, magazines, and a phone charger. And I'd have a distinct lack of sympathy too.

PS Hope you have two loos!!

Following for shitmageddon. Xmas Envy

labazsisgoingmad · 25/12/2019 13:59

he is a twat when my gd was young her mum and dad went to a local pub for lunch. no one realised something was wrong and my gd had a really bad bout of food poisoning we nearly lost her at one point it certainly was not just a few dirty nappies

JustASmallTownCurl · 25/12/2019 14:04

God why are some people such stubborn arseholes?! Like you say he'd rather risk being ill than just say oh shit sorry we'll have to have something else. Why is that so hard?! Ugh. And people saying to just let him eat it, that's all well and good but he'll be hogging the bathroom and causing an almighty stench for everyone else. It's so unfair.

NoMoreWeepingAndWanking · 25/12/2019 14:05

Oh God. This is a car crash of a thread...

MitziK · 25/12/2019 14:06

He's clearly got some sort of death wish - not only is it already partly decomposed from sitting around in a warm, metal box for 48 hours, he's then leaving it to sit around for at least a couple more days in the fridge.

Make sure the stuff is hermetically sealed so it doesn't contaminate the rest of the fridge ingredients, put some bog roll in the fridge and stand back.

VivaLeBeaver · 25/12/2019 14:07

If it was beef I’d eat it. Definitely not chicken!

Sparklfairy · 25/12/2019 14:08

Waiting for the thread in the next few days titled 'oh fuck I've killed my husband' Grin

Ellathechristmasfairy · 25/12/2019 14:09

He will certainly lose a few pounds if he’s carrying a bit too much.

Useful22 · 25/12/2019 14:10

What a baby. Tell him to grow up

Whereisthechicken · 25/12/2019 14:11

Nope he's eating it with his Christmas dinner right now. Code brown, count down to shitplosion starts now

It's been really warm. I'm in Cumbria and still wearing a thick cardie outdoors. He'd be a fool to risk it 😳😳😳

Sparklfairy · 25/12/2019 14:12

Code brown Grin

My DM would have deliberately hidden the toilet roll in this situation.
