I did.

From my mother. Even after lots of conversations through the year about how we're using solid shampoo and bars of soap to cut down on plastics.

She explicitly asked what we wanted for christmas and we decided to ask her for vouchers for a family day out at a local attraction. But apparently we had to have "something to open too". So mine was a Baylis and Harding set and a car of whole nut cadbury's chocolate which I don't eat either because of palm oil.

DH got a similar gift set as did DS. Suspect they were on a 3 for 2.

Not wanting to be ungrateful but if she'd just have stuck to the plan we would all have been delighted.

True Nicknacky, it's actually a lovely looking set.

mindutopia · 25/12/2019 12:06

I usually get a Burts Bees gift set from my MIL (every god damn Christmas and birthday). Thankfully, this year dh finally got pretty direct about what a shit gift it was. I got a bottle of Aperol instead (Aperol spritz for NYE now).

cavabiensepasser · 25/12/2019 12:09

Yep. B&H and bloody Tropic as well. It'll get used, but I do have a moral objection to MLM 🙄

adaline · 25/12/2019 12:09

Nope - I got a nice £150 voucher to my favourite shop Grin

SendCoffeeASAP · 25/12/2019 15:25

I got 3... off the same person. I volunteer with service users who have unstable home-lives so I am sure they will really appreciate them on my behalf! Glad they won't go to waste.

Thinkofsomethingoriginal · 25/12/2019 15:29

🤚

Tiredemma · 25/12/2019 15:34

Yes! Lol

Redcrayons · 25/12/2019 15:40

Not yet, waiting for visit to my brothers house. Him and SIL stock up on the 3 for 2s in the clearance section in January.

I've got two teens who use Gallons of shower gel, so I don't really mind too much.

Cherrysoup · 25/12/2019 16:00

I regifted the baylis and Harding back to them this year (waiting for the fall out)

Blimey, really? I definitely want an update on that one! Brilliant!

I like B&H sets, bar the lotion, who can be bothered doing the whole moisturing thing?

xTinkerhellx · 25/12/2019 16:01

I am actually a bit upset I didn't get a single toiletries set this year.

I love receiving them!

ChristmasEveEveEve · 25/12/2019 16:02

I did! From a distant uncle. It's a lovely he thought of me but I will be donating it. I'm not a snob, I have used it in the past and cannot stand the stuff.

JoanBonJovi · 25/12/2019 16:03

The black pepper is ok

ToEarlyForDecorations · 25/12/2019 16:08

You can't put it on your food, surely ?

thismumismad · 25/12/2019 16:09

Not trying to make you feel worse than you already do, I've just found out that ALL cosmetic products made in China will be tested on animals it's the law out there.

ToEarlyForDecorations · 25/12/2019 16:10

I got Bayliss and Harding. They needn't have bothered giving it. However, I thanked them and got them a present in return (because that was the point of giving me the gift.) Manipulative much ?

Moondancer73 · 25/12/2019 16:11

Just wow. I'm actually shocked at just how ungrateful people are.

bridgetreilly · 25/12/2019 16:22

I did! With the price tag still on it and everything. But honestly, it was the only tat my mother got me this year, so that's a big improvement on previous years. She tends to panic buy a lot of rubbish that I neither want nor need. This year, there was some nice chutney, some marmalade that I can pass on to a friend who likes it, and the B&H gift set. And a cheque. So all in all, I'm counting that as a win. No Christmas-themed tea towels, no clothes that aren't my style and don't fit, no twee books of inspirational quotes.

Difficultcustomer · 25/12/2019 16:23

The ingratitude is breathtaking. They bought what you wanted and also wanted you to have a gift to open on the day. If you don't want it, someone at the local shelter will be very grateful for it but give your family the pleasure of seeing you open something and appreciate the thought.

I agree with this.

SteelRiver · 25/12/2019 16:29

Don't be so bloody snobby and ungrateful.

ChequerBoard · 25/12/2019 16:42

So many ungrateful posters today.. glad my family isn't grabby and selfish like this.

Thingsdogetbetter · 25/12/2019 16:49

Women's refuges are always happy to get potions, lotions, make up etc! (I collect at work - and for men's dv refuges too.) Find a local dv charity that will accept and pass on. Women turn up in just the clothes on their back, so anything from shampoo to toothpaste is needed.

Ginfordinner · 25/12/2019 16:52

Why is there so much snobbery about B and H gift sets?

I love all my Christmas presents BTW.

Furrydog7 · 25/12/2019 16:52

No but i got some bath crystals from my cousin yet again even though i tell her every year that i am allergic to bath crystals. I wouldn't say no to chocolate though.

MaButterface · 25/12/2019 17:06

I feel so sorry for the family members who don’t realise that mumsnetters hate Baylis and Harding and think they are buying something nice for a loved one. Then get mocked online for it by the family member.

Yes and the I'm such a good person I dont use palm oil, I dont use plastics hence I won't take your present Crown Hmm

Sizeofalentil · 25/12/2019 18:02

I quite like b&h. Not sure why it's so hated.
