I did.

From my mother. Even after lots of conversations through the year about how we're using solid shampoo and bars of soap to cut down on plastics.

She explicitly asked what we wanted for christmas and we decided to ask her for vouchers for a family day out at a local attraction. But apparently we had to have "something to open too". So mine was a Baylis and Harding set and a car of whole nut cadbury's chocolate which I don't eat either because of palm oil.

DH got a similar gift set as did DS. Suspect they were on a 3 for 2.

Not wanting to be ungrateful but if she'd just have stuck to the plan we would all have been delighted.

I don't get given things I don't want or need or find to my taste. But I just literally don't have gifts. If you don't enjoy someone gifting you things then be clear.

I like Bayliss and Harding 🤷‍♀️ DH always gets me some sort of bath salt/ bubble bath/ shower gel set, because he knows I love em. He didn't get me B&H this year though, it was Nivea. Not sure if that's quote/unquote 'acceptable'.

I got one from BIL and SIL! I'm pleased! I rely on Christmas to keep me stocked with body butter and bath stuff throughout the year! I know it's a cheap brand but I don't care. I think people who are snobby about that kind of thing are often pretty insecure.

I did. And I'm loving it

What's wrong with Baylis and Harding ? I got a set off my Dad today and appreciate the gift. It's the thought that counts, don't be ungrateful.

Unfortunately not. I did get a Sanctuary one though, but after reading MN I've realised I must be a weirdo, I like a Gift set or two Smile

Berating OP for being ungrateful is stupid. Her mother has bought her a present she's specifically said she won't use any more. I can see that she might've missed the palm oil in the chocolate, but the message about using soap now was pretty clear.

I didn't for the first time in years and no jimmy choo perfume either (can't stand the stuff but the same person has bought me a bottle for 4 years running)! Although my January birthday is just round the corner so I'm sure I'll be regifted some 😂 I appreciate the thought, and don't expect anything but i do feel bad for the wasted money and effort.

After years of dropping subtle hints that I have sensitive skin and can't use anything perfumed (and Jimmy choo perfume is vile) the message may have finally got through. My mum did get me a little baggy full of the stuff I can use- sanex zero mostly- which is fab and genuinely useful.

Me! from DIL. I get smellies every year (is she trying to tell me something? Hmm) and I can't use them due to sensitivity issues. It's the thought that counts so I smile and thank her (as it is she and not my DS who get the pressies - no surprise there!) and put them in my wardrobe. For another year.

I got a Baylis and Harding gift set, I'm really pleased with it!
In my eyes it's a bit of luxury, but I realise I am probably not a proper mums-netter Grin

Yes we did.
One each from my parents as our main present.
And they were the only presents my parents had to buy.
Sad
But know we should be grateful.

I got one, but a hand wash and lotion thing so easy enough to use. I don't mind it, I'm not fussy about soaps etc.

Don't be ungrateful.

Our local Salvation Army Hostel is always happy to recieve items like this for women to help make their lives a little better.

To be fair if you are super fussy about plastic etc you will have to start refusing it or warning people you will give it back. It's something that is starting to become more of a thing now but not everyone thinks about it as much as you clearly do. Not saying your not right! It's good to do what you can to cut back. That said it's christmas and people struggle knowing what to get people. It can be so hard. Most adults receive random gift sets. That's because what else is there? It's not the end of the world. It's not going to destroy the planet either as the rest of the year you are making responsible choices. I actually got the mum and mil a bayliss and Harding giftset. They liked them as far as I know!

I feel so sorry for the family members who don’t realise that mumsnetters hate Baylis and Harding and think they are buying something nice for a loved one. Then get mocked online for it by the family member.

Yes and the I'm such a good person I dont use palm oil, I dont use plastics hence I won't take your present Crown Hmm

Why is there so much snobbery about B and H gift sets?

I love all my Christmas presents BTW.
