I'm sitting here waiting to go to bed but I have an few things to do which I am putting off' because I'm literally TERRIFIED!!

What if Santa gets caught?

It's the worst part of Xmas I'm sure

I'm doing exactly the same! I hate this bit. Have four stockings filled and ready to go on beds and really having to psych myself up to do it. It's so silly though as my older boys are 14 and 16 and well aware of the facts 🤦

user27495824 · 25/12/2019 01:30

I've just had this. My dd's stocking made an awful rattling sound, rookie error. Listen to their breathing pattern for a minute, you can generally judge their stage of sleep cycle, then just go for it. If you get caught say FC left it on the landing and you were moving it closer because you nearly tripped on it on the way to the bathroom. Or you were just coming to tuck them in, and were excited to check the stocking... etc or just 'shhh.. go back to sleep, he's been!' they are young enough to believe in FC they will fall for any story like that.

@user27495824 brilliant ideas thank you!!

In our house Santa got caught by DS1 when he was 9. He was very good about it & played along for his younger brothers. I was more upset about it than he was. From when they were small we always left stockings by the fireplace instead of in bedrooms because we were so worried about waking our light sleepers. Unfortunately I was seen by DS on the way downstairs with a large sack Grin

SploshMeBackwards · 25/12/2019 01:41

I've also got the fear tonight lol.
Santa was very nearly caught earlier but I think he's going to try again in a minute as he's tired

Dancetherain · 25/12/2019 01:43

Drama see I wish I had done that as trying to quietly get them on their beds is terrifying! And it's feels seriously loud!

Anyway done now. only my 6 year old still believes but I still do it for everyone.

PhilCornwall1 · 25/12/2019 01:57

Sodding great mountain bike just put by the tree after Santa sorted the handle bars, saddle and a few other things on it. The bike is for our youngest. He's 13, so I'm 100% sure he's up to speed on the reality of Santa!

Anyhoo, after much buggering around with this bike, storing it at my parents place and then managing to get it back to ours without him seeing it, it should be a surprise.

Currently crashed on the settee with a coffee and a body full of painkillers (bad arthritis sufferer), I'm hoping to make it to bed shortly, although it may well be the rest of the night here.

I'm like a kid again, can't wait for him to wake up and see it!!

turkeymaster · 25/12/2019 01:59

Good luck all... I'm glad I'm not alone! Wish I had opted for the stocking by the tree instead Grin

YANBU I hate creeping into their rooms with the filled stocking - Terrifying! Wish I'd listening to DH who always hung his by the fireplace much less risky!

Anniecott · 25/12/2019 02:07

Hung by the fireplace here, bite taken out of the carrot, mince pie and milk disposed of. God knows why my sons nearly 17!!!!!!
Happy Christmas everyone 🎄🎅🏻🎄

Discoballs · 25/12/2019 02:12

My 5 year old just came in crying because Santa hasn't been. Trying to comfort him and pack him back off to bed while feeding a newborn. Poor DH who has the early shift with the baby is waiting for him to get back to sleep so he can sneak the stocking in. We're all going to be more like zombies than usual tomorrow!

BobLobLawLLB · 25/12/2019 02:14

I'm stood outside the bedroom waiting for DS to sound like he's sleeping. I think i might put them by the the fireplace next year too.

AFemale · 25/12/2019 02:16

Dd is 15 but she likes to take an empty stocking up to bed and wake to a full one. I know she's awake and just pretending to sleep, she said earlier today that's one of the best things because I tiptoe like a cartoon burglar and it's a struggle for her to not laugh at me.

My sister has her children hang the stockings on the inside of the door handle so she's not sneaking across a bedroom and the kids still get to have stockings in the room.

Redyoyo · 25/12/2019 02:28

Dh has been taking stuff down to the livingroom from our bedroom, we live in a townhouse with us up the top the kids in the middle, he's walking up the stair and 9 year old opens her door and goes what you doing! Then 7 year old pops out her room for the toilet, I'm a nervous wreck. 7 year old still not back to sleep. Santa's only half been!

tjames100 · 25/12/2019 02:35

So reassuring to know it's not just us. Earlier my 6yo DD was crying because she couldn't sleep. We do ours downstairs so we can kind of do it if they're awake. Well stressful. Hope everyone gets it sorted...

steff13 · 25/12/2019 02:49

It's so stressful.

wraithberry · 25/12/2019 02:53

Don't forget to disable the Nest cam or delete footage, if they have access to an iPad etc!

TrueCrimeFan · 25/12/2019 03:16

user27495824 stealing those ideas - genius!

ElasticGirl · 25/12/2019 03:26

My 10 year old has already woken up and opened his!!!

Mummyoflittledragon · 25/12/2019 04:06

I decided to put the stocking by the fireplace. So glad I did. That’s still stressful enough. Hope it all goes well peeps.

BobLobLawLLB · 25/12/2019 04:10

I've given up. DS is wife awake (pretending to be asleep) so i've put the stocking on the fireplace. DDs stocking is by her bed so I'll tell him santa wouldn't come into his room.

Sleepysundown · 25/12/2019 04:11

My 7yo came down and caught ex DH building her dolls house Sad Hoping she was too sleepy to register, but just going to say we buy them one gift each to “top up” which DD 10 already knows as she’s getting to disbeliever stage.

Ex DH still downstairs wrapping his gifts as he hasn’t done it. I’ve been sent to bed but laid awake as I’m worried he won’t get them into the sacks before the girls wake up Blush

MereDintofPandiculation · 25/12/2019 04:30

God knows why my sons nearly 17!!!!!! Earlier tonight I filled stockings for DS 35 and his father. Filling on landing with 3 cats crowding around me - whether there'll be anything left tomorrow morning is an interesting question.

bananahood · 25/12/2019 04:33

DD1 announced a few weeks ago that she'd like Santa to leave her stocking in the lounge not in her bedroom, Santa thought that was an excellent idea.
