My oldest was always terrified of someone going in her room while she was sleeping so never started the stockings in rooms thing which I am forever glad of. They also have to wait to open them too.

Cute thread!

transformandriseup · 25/12/2019 04:39

I'm dreading this in a few years when my baby is older, our house is old with creaky floorboards so you can't sneak anywhere.

Timberoo · 25/12/2019 04:40

@transformandriseup Santa Claus is like SAS.......... He's never caught.......

BlackCatSleeping · 25/12/2019 04:40

We have a nanny cam in the living room, so I actually dressed up in a Santa suit to put the presents under the tree. 😂

The stockings are done but I had to climb up the bunk bed to get one.

It was not easy eating the cookie and drinking the milk with a fake beard on!

Timberoo · 25/12/2019 04:44

I love it when Santa makes an awful mess and Mammy gets annoyed with the mess! Ds was like, 'don't worry Mumy, it was Santa!'.

It's lovely being Santa, though can I warn you lot - the elves are on strike this year....... Santa has to do everything!

Timberoo · 25/12/2019 04:46

@BlackCatSleeping Santa can do anything!

SexlessBoulderBelly · 25/12/2019 04:54

My parents used to put them in the lounge by the fireplace. We had glass french doors into the lounge and every year my parents would go first downstairs... stop at the door... look at each other in sadness and tell us Santa hasn’t been and watch us almost cry as we ‘double check’ for ourselves and suck the tears back up when we see mountains of presents.

Seems even crueler now I’ve written it down, but we grew up in a comedic household, my dad thought he was the bees knees with all the jokes 😂

But yes opt for fire place or living room next year!

Chociefish · 25/12/2019 05:02

My asc dd woke up at 1am and is still awake now. I've been sat on this chair in her room toooooo long. I can't remember what it's like to sleep normally..........

@Chociefish How is Santa going to come!

LilouBlue · 25/12/2019 06:01

Santa is delivering the presents to Grandma and Grandad's house this year so thankfully no sneaking about for me! I did the stockings last night, thankfully we have just moved house so the dc have got used to being surrounded by boxes, they didn't notice an extra one on the kitchen worktop, which I then put the contents of into the stockings after they were in bed.

I've never done stockings in bedrooms, seems like a recipe for disaster to me with my clumsiness!

tinselfight · 25/12/2019 06:17

My dd woke up as I was putting her stocking on the foot of the bed. I didn't know what to do so I fell onto it and made an even louder noise by scrunching up some sweet wrappers. She really woke up then !

This was at 12:30 and I was so so tired by then. So I got up and shook the stocking up and down ( god knows why Blush) she just stared at me and then led back down.

Hopefully she just thought she was dreaming.

I just walked away in despair.

Even though we've lived in Switzerland for 3 years now, this is our first Christmas here. Well at 11pm last night here in Zürich, the church bells started ringing over the entire city for an hour!!! Managed to get the kids back to sleep finally after the racket had stopped! Bloody knackered now, going to be a long day!

Allington · 25/12/2019 07:13

Grin and DD1 (aged 20!) set up the camp bed right next to the Christmas tree and was on her phone for ages...

Still managed it!

DD2 is 12, both fully aware of the facts of Christmas, but it is a game between them and me which is a lot of fun.

When DD1 was 15 and in her 'confrontational' stage, she was very vocal about FC not existing, so I wrapped a piece of coal from FC. She saw the funny side, bless her (and got plenty of presents from 'me'), and ever since they have both said very firmly that they believe - while being eagle eyed about recognising small details such as the wrapping paper used Grin and noticing any strange bags after a shopping trip.

I recommend the boot of the car as a storage place - can't be accessed without the keys!

gettingbacktoresearch · 25/12/2019 08:55

My 10 year old was unwrapping her stocking presents today and kept asking why there was a red hair on one or two.... whilst looking at my red hair..... she also wondered why Santa shopped at Primark..... she’s at the i dong think I believe but won’t admit it stage so I hope we can continue the game for a few more years! It was more difficult this year as we are staying at my ILS and I’m sharing a bed with her! DH slept downstairs and was still up at 3 chatting with his brother so we were awake until half three too! Xmas Grin

turkeymaster · 25/12/2019 11:36

@bananahood I was trying to hint to them all they could leave their stockings downstairs lol... nope... they all went for the bedroom lol
