Doesn't surprise me, Paws, that any displays in Federal Bldgs would be censored for 'potentially offensive' content. Can't have innocent eyes seeing the word 'pussy' on a placard. Displays must also be 'neutral' as far as 'current events' go. Under the Hatch Act, no Federal display can appear to be endorsing (or 'unendorsing') a particular candidate/party.
So whilst a historic display could show 'Down with FDR' or 'Vote Nixon' on a photo from the past, it probably would choose to err on the 'safe side' and 'edit out' negative or positive posters for any candidate running for election today, whether it says "Fuck Trump" or "Go Bernie".
When I was working we had to be extremely careful as to any possible political inference from anything we wore or said. My (former) manager agonized over a rather odd-looking horse head pendant worn by a coworker because he was concerned that it might be mistaken for a donkey. Another coworker was asked to remove an elephant statue from her desk in case a client 'mistook it' for a political endorsement. The only acceptable political 'items' were American flags and 'I have voted' stickers.
Govt offices always display a portrait of the current POTUS in the public area. One of the best things about retiring when I did is that I never had to see Barack Obama's (classy) portrait come down from the wall and the 8x10 glossy of Scrotus' gurning face go up.
I saw the pictures just published of Barack and Michelle's anniversary shots. God, I miss them! I know he's not eligible to run again, but still.
