Of course he's racist and his being prime minister is legitimising racism in the general population.

CrissmussMockers · 23/12/2019 20:05

Ernest Bevin was of partly jewish ancestry. It didn't stop him being anti-semitic, and may have contributed on a psychological level.

Johnson is a middle-class arriviste oik who probably felt inferior among Lord Snooty and his Eton Pals. He compensated with an exaggerated posh voice and became extra vocal in his denigration of anyone and anything not part of the elite group he aspired to belong to.

Scum.

FFSFFSFFS · 23/12/2019 20:10

I doubt he's racist. But I think he's a massively ambitious narcissist who is more than happy to be racist if it gets him what he wants.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 23/12/2019 20:24

He has used highly provocative language to get a point over - when writing the article referring to women looking like letterboxes he knew exactly what he was doing he already had his sights on being PM

And he knew that many would agree with him (the niqab/burka is a very devise subject as many view this item of clothing as being oppressive)

And by not caring if he offends yes there is a racist element how could it not be as seeing a group of people as not worthy of using respectable language towards - regardless if he was arguing the right for women to have the freedom to wear the niqab/burka

He man is like Teflon

Is he racist as in he believes white people are superior a white supremacist I doubt that but it’s not always so extreme

quitecontrary123 · 23/12/2019 20:29

Absolutely.
Take a guess.

Lndnmummy · 23/12/2019 20:35

@EnthusiasmIsDisturbed
“Is he racist as in he believes white people are superior....I don’t that.

I do really not doubt that all. Not for a second. I wholeheartedly believe that he feels him and his (white peers) are superior.

Strongmummy · 23/12/2019 20:40

@FFSFFSFFS - you doubt he’s racist, but he’s happy to BE racist. What?!?!?!

MidnightCircus · 23/12/2019 20:43

People can say/write things they don't believe in Strongmummy. That's not a difficult concept surely?

Paintedmaypole · 23/12/2019 20:43

Well he wrote a poem calling for the extermination of the Scots (a verminous race, polluting our gene pool etc.)

ThebishopofBanterbury · 23/12/2019 20:44

Of course he is. I voted tactically for Lib Dems to keep the conservatives out. Didn't work out very well though! Smile

coatlessinspokane · 23/12/2019 20:53

His ex wife is half Sikh, his children are quarter Sikh.

Having a wife of a particular race doesn't necessarily mean someone isn't racist. That's a bit like saying that a married man can't believe in the inferiority of women.

Strongmummy · 23/12/2019 20:56

@MidnightCircus if you’re comfortable writing the things he’s written you’re racist

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 23/12/2019 20:58

I don’t necessarily believe that

I don’t think someone who believes their skin colour makes them more superior to a degree that white superiority rules marries and has children with a women who has is of mixed Indian heritage (and not some distant grandmother - and certainly doesn’t look English)

He obviously doesn’t treat the women he is involved with with respect but I don’t think that is a race issue that is him being a nasty pig

I am quite sure he would make derogatory and most probably has about white working class people I doubt he sees those living on council estates signing on being superior to say Preti Patel

FFSFFSFFS · 23/12/2019 21:13

@strongmummy

as in I don't think he would care what race someone was if they could help him get ahead.

However - if the person(people) who can get him ahead are racist I don't think he would have the slightest problem saying racist things or acting in a racist way.

I think ultimately Johnson is a Johnsonist and that is at the core of any belief or position he takes

pemberlyshades · 23/12/2019 21:15

@Smileyaxolotl1 well bully for him.

pemberlyshades · 23/12/2019 21:16

@CactusAndCacti yes exactly a bloody tonnage of Teflon

MitziK · 23/12/2019 21:17

@FizzAfterSix One of my exes has homosexual leanings. He's the biggest homophobe I've ever met, because he's so desperate to 'prove' he isn't gay - so much so that, to my absolute horror, he was involved in hunting for gay men to beat them up. (Yes, I dumped him).

It's a way some people behave if they've been on the receiving end of racism/homophobia themselves or fear it - they become the abusers to deflect attention away from themselves/to deny the aspects of themselves that they hate.

Ineedaweeinpeace · 23/12/2019 21:20

His racist to the non elite. If they talk like him that’s ok. But not the illegitimate ones .... obvs

Livelovebehappy · 23/12/2019 21:32

Of course he’s not.

RipleysCat · 23/12/2019 21:33

I don’t believe he’s racist personally.
I think he used those comments to act as a sort of dog whistle to voters. The watermelon smiles and picanninies are a bit more obvious.
But, I think he used the burqa as he’s aware it’s a garment that’s very divisive, and that his comments would reach with voters left and right. Some people think well, you don’t see men walking around covered head to toe in black and see it as an patriarchal tool, and nod along because of that. Or others who have an issue with Muslims and generally immigration , and would agree with him because of that.
Really Johnson is about Johnson, and would say whatever to promote himself.

Strongmummy · 23/12/2019 23:13

@RipleysCat people who find racism abhorrent wouldn’t say “picaninnies” or use the term “watermelon smiles”. Therefore I’m unsure how you come to the conclusion he isn’t racist

Bluebutterfly90 · 23/12/2019 23:16

Don't really care if he thinks he is 'a racist' or not. He says racist things, that's all I need to know.
