Is Boris Johnson racist?

KenDodd · 23/12/2019 13:14

YABU = No
YANBU = Yes

Could you also please say how you voted in the election?

We had quite a big national opinion poll a few weeks ago - it’s called a General Election. Boris won the largest share of the popular vote since 1979.

So everyone who voted Conservative likes Boris Johnson and agrees with every word he says?

CendrillonSings · 23/12/2019 14:47

Not necessarily, but they certainly considered him less objectionable than the Corbynite Labour Party, which is being investigated for institutional racism by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission. The only other party ever to be so investigated was ... the BNP.

PBJtimedance · 23/12/2019 14:49

It is kind of ironic that he is seen to be extremely Islamophobic when he is of Islamic heritage, being from a very famous Ottoman dynasty. I don't know whether he is racist or not as I've never met him but he has said some bad remarks and he has probably been mis-quoted, who knows, time will tell I guess.

@RunningAwaywiththeCircus
It wasn't just bumboys. There's also stuff about gay marriage, those in the military, defended Mugabees homophobic comments.

ffswhatnext · 23/12/2019 14:55

His book wasn't misquoted.

Notcool1984 · 23/12/2019 14:59

Of course he is and a sexist pig. I voted Labour in Scotland

tttigress · 23/12/2019 15:06

Can we stop with these sort of threads and move on please

KenDodd · 23/12/2019 15:08

Yes, so what could that mean?

They don't think he's racist?
They all agree with his (generally agreed to be) racist remarks and think he's right ?
They think he's racist but don't care?

What are you taking from the GE win?

That last post was @CendrillonSings

That endlessly smearing his character is a pointless waste of time. Only a small proportion of the electorate believes it, and most of those were already politically opposed to him anyway.

recrudescence · 23/12/2019 15:14

Genuinely interested, @recrudescence: how do you reconcile that with the use of the terms quoted?

I’m just not in a hurry to make up my mind because I don’t share (what I suspect is) your Manichean world view.

Baaaahhhhh · 23/12/2019 15:26

OK - So I have finally, and rather belatedly, read the full articles most quoted for BJ being racist. I have also read some articles both for and against the preceived, or not, racism.

So, from the Spectator - BJ is not a racist, entirely the opposite. The articles in question are actually in support of those to whom the supposed racist remarks were made:

blogs.spectator.co.uk/2019/11/boris-johnson-and-the-piccaninny-smear/

From the Independent, who actually don't give an opinion, just a narrative:

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/boris-johnson-conservative-leadership-latest-racism-watermelon-smiles-satirical-a8981166.html

yellowallpaper · 23/12/2019 18:45

Massively politically incorrect but not a racist. Clearly doesn't engage his brain to his mouth at times, but basically harmless, unless you are looking to be offended.

Hingeandbracket · 23/12/2019 18:51

Dunno if he’s racist. Voted Green HTH OP

EnjoyyourBrexit · 23/12/2019 18:54

Yes, he's racist and we have dark times ahead.

MitziK · 23/12/2019 18:56

What are you taking from the GE win?

That there are a hell of a lot more people here that are as racist as he is than I ever thought possible prior to Brexit.

yellowallpaper · 23/12/2019 18:57

@KenDodd

  • They don't think he's racist? They all agree with his (generally agreed to be) racist remarks and think he's right ? They think he's racist but don't care?*

Or maybe it's just possible they can see beyond all the smears, name calling, personal life and other completely irrelevant nonsense spoken about BJ and actually look at the policies of all the major parties and decided those were actually the most important issues? .....I know. It's almost unbelievable that Tory voters didn't give a shit about the smears, just as ardent labour voters ignored the anti Semitic and Marxoid smears, or the Lib Dem's ignored the mockery of the party called the democrats shitting on actual democracy.

QuizzlyBear · 23/12/2019 18:59

Of course! But then he's an equal-opportunity bastard to the poor/disabled/disenfranchised/immigrants/refugees or really anyone who's not had the same start in life that he had.

So more of an utter twat than a racist, really.

Lndnmummy · 23/12/2019 19:01

Of course he is, and for any non white brits trying to make a living in this country having him as PM is a tragedy. Abit like having Trump for your president.

Lndnmummy · 23/12/2019 19:03

@QuizzlyBear said it better than me. But I’d like to settle for a racist twat.

And no I don’t need lots of white Torres telling me he is not. That’s boring. Yawn yada yada.

halocompanach · 23/12/2019 19:04

Is North Korea a dictatorship? Is the pope a Catholic?

ThatssomebadhatHarry · 23/12/2019 19:09

Has someone said Islam is not a race yet? I need that for my dribbling bald head old boomer racist cunt bingo.

otterturk · 23/12/2019 19:20

Insensitive, not racist. The letterboxes comment has been twisted - he also defended the rights of women to wear what is undeniably a regressive and repressive item. Of course that doesn't fit the leftist narrative that he's an awful racist.

CrissmussMockers · 23/12/2019 19:49

The letterboxes comment was entirely deliberate in its duplicity. It can be directly compared to Enoch Powell's fake story about a non-existent little old lady who got dog turds put through her letterbox by black people. Every black and brown family in the land can tell you what that led to, and it was intended.

Scum.

FizzAfterSix · 23/12/2019 19:58

He is of Muslim Turkish ancestry.
His ex wife is half Sikh, his children are quarter Sikh.
He has promoted BAME people to high office.
I can't believe we are still holding this convo when Corbyn is guilty of really appalling anti Semitism.
