When do you eat the Christmas treat food?

Me and Dp have this argument every year. We've just done the Xmas food shop including treats. He thinks we shouldn't touch it until Christmas Eve and I think we should spread the joy by starting it now.

AIBU or is he?

I think the weekend before Christmas is fine! That's when school breaks up. I find that we all want to start eating better sooner after Christmas then.

Fcukthisshit · 22/12/2019 08:18

We’ve already done a whole box of after eights and several packs of “party food”. We started on Thursday night.

When we finish work for the year, which this year was on the 19th :)

I stop eating chocolate in December, at least, so it feels more special on Christmas Eve. I've got special crisps for over Christmas and specific treats.

So unless it's a part of normal weekly eating, or having a mince pie etc with guests, then the treats don't start until Christmas Eve. I've got three bottles of Baileys in and they haunt me daily. We've bought the Hotel Chocolate Velvetiser, so Christmas Eve will start with a Baileys hot chocolate.

I do the same during lent.

Christmas food is for Christmas, just as Christmas presents are for Christmas... you shouldn't open either early imo.

isseywith4vampirecats · 22/12/2019 12:32

the rule in our house is once the proper Christmas food is in the house then its open season on the goodies so roses opened yesterday when we got home Christmas cake and posh cheeses though are for boxing day so they wont be opened till then

onlyhereforthefood · 22/12/2019 12:40

Christmas eve here, once work is done.

knewyouwerewaiting · 22/12/2019 12:42

I can’t believe how many people keep all the treats till Christmas Eve!

Sillysausageandeggs · 22/12/2019 12:44

Eat it now!!! 👍👍👍

Oysterbabe · 22/12/2019 12:49

We're having a cheeseboard for lunch.

MotherofDinosaurs · 22/12/2019 12:53

I think you should do whatever the fuck you like

DivisionBelles · 22/12/2019 13:20

The rules are that the bounty gets open on Christmas Eve, but the reality is that the biscuits were opened yesterday and DH is halfway through his first bag of dry roasted peanuts. Reckon we'll properly get stuck in tomorrow evening though!

Baileys tasting is the whole year on at this house.
Mince pies are always for before Xmas, to get you in a festive spirit so we went through 2 packs and now “never again until mid November 2020”.

We went through 3 Pandoras from Lidl since mid November. I’ve bought 2 small boxes of posh chocolates for after Xmas dinner and ate them myself 2 weeks ago. (not at once of courseBlush)
We had some nice new smoked salmon from Aldi already ( just to try to be sure....)
I managed not to buy any florentines this year - they never last more than a couple of days at ours.
Main meat is waiting for Christmas in the freezer. No one will touch it, I swear!

Rockbird · 22/12/2019 13:27

Mince pies are fair game when they appear in the shops. We've had a tub of Heroes and have just cracked open the Pringles. But we don't host so we don't have huge amounts in. I am eyeballing a tub of Quality Street as I type though...

DJA1511 · 22/12/2019 13:29

Now! Last year I didn’t let anyone eat much of it til Christmas Eve but there was so much left after Christmas. I just buy it and people can eat what they want now within reason.

OldEvilOwl · 22/12/2019 13:29

The rules are if it's opened (by me) you can eat it. If it's not open ask. No DH/P here just me and the DC's

ThatssomebadhatHarry · 22/12/2019 13:36

I finished work on fri but will crack open the Christmas treats when my family comes Monday. Not a day sooner.

Although I don’t count wine as a Christmas treat. Or chocolate. May have tasted the pate in advance to make sure it is ok for my guests. Did open one box of pringles. Also to test. And some smoked cheese.

But nothing else not until Christmas Eve Eve.
