When do you eat the Christmas treat food?

Me and Dp have this argument every year. We've just done the Xmas food shop including treats. He thinks we shouldn't touch it until Christmas Eve and I think we should spread the joy by starting it now.

AIBU or is he?

At this stage anything snacky that isn’t wrapped up or earmarked for a specific day is fair game.

I’m a teacher and have been grazing on chocolates and wine since I broke up last week

EmmiJay · 21/12/2019 20:06

I don't even do my Christmas shopping until Christmas Eve Eve Xmas Grin but even then I won't allow anyone to touch it until Christmas Eve.

SubordinateThatClause · 21/12/2019 20:08

Stocking chocolates have had to be replaced twice in my house. Just saying!

BuffaloCauliflower · 21/12/2019 20:11

DH and I have a cheese board out right now and have mini Christmas pies for dessert Grin (spiced apple and clementine from Tesco)

Neacy · 21/12/2019 20:13

Well my two have started today, already eaten the treeslets/twiglets and a small tub of Heros, Jelly Babies and some nuts, I have eaten a couple of stollen bites.

I have now hidden the rest of the treat food.

Son says he is popping into Sainsbury tomorrow to pick more bits up.

Every year I say treats start on Christmas Eve, the same as we did as kids, but this never happens.

Celticrose · 21/12/2019 20:13

We are half way through a box of Tunnock's. Also a box of mini mince pies. I used to want to wait until Christmas Eve but now think it's better to spread the stuff over a longer period. Have also cut back this year after saying I would do it every year but not actually achieving it. Hopefully all will be gone come 2nd January except maybe the cheese. I love cheese.

Pilot12 · 21/12/2019 20:15

When everyone has finished work/school and the whole family is on holiday - which is today!

lilgreen · 21/12/2019 20:16

Depends what you count as treat food. Opened first box of mini mince pies today. Don’t buy chocs and sweets. Have people over Monday but for dinner then drinks on Christmas Eve with some ‘party food’ but everything else gets eaten after Christmas really.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 21/12/2019 20:17

Officially not yet but H is out so I've cracked open the matchmakers

hiphiphoorayback · 21/12/2019 20:18

I have been having a couple of mince pies with cream a day since mid November.Blush

bridgetreilly · 21/12/2019 20:19

Most of it should be left until Christmas Day and after. You can buy some things specifically for Christmas Eve. You definitely shouldn't be eating it yet. That's the rules.

UndertheCedartree · 21/12/2019 20:19

We wait til Christmas Eve. We have had a few mince pies over December and we'll bake some biscuits tomorrow so will probably try one. But apart from that we wait til Christmas Eve supper Crown Smile

ChristmasFete · 21/12/2019 20:21

Tonight it begins

knewyouwerewaiting · 21/12/2019 20:21

We’ve opened the pretzels and the quality street.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 21/12/2019 20:21

We started tonight! Currently eating my way through a box of lindor chocolates

Deckthehallswith · 21/12/2019 20:22

I still have work on Monday and Tuesday but started opening them today.
Dp and ds got their hols yesterday. We've had a tin of chocolates and pot of Pringles Blush

MegaClutterSlut · 21/12/2019 20:22

Xmas eve we start scoffing the treats otherwise they'd all be gone by xmas day Blush

TigerOnATrain · 21/12/2019 20:23

@Grinchymcfinchy

YANBU. We opened ours last night.

f00k · 21/12/2019 20:26

We wait until Christmas Eve. I say we. I force that decision upon everyone else because if I didn't there wouldn't be any treats left by Monday. We did have some Yule Log tonight though.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 21/12/2019 20:26

The 23rd

AwdBovril · 21/12/2019 20:27

Whenever DD's school holidays start. So this year, that's today. We cut into the Christmas cake this morning & had some for breakfast! BlushGrin

However, mince pies are purchased as soon as they start appearing in the shops, & barely get through the door before they are eaten. We don't buy sweets or chocolates though.

DurhamDurham · 21/12/2019 20:30

We've made a start on the cheese board tonight, neither of us could be bothered to cook so this seemed like a sensible solution Grin

pooboobsleeprepeat · 21/12/2019 20:30

Eat what you want when you want!

squiglet111 · 21/12/2019 20:33

From today in our house. Growing up nothing could be touched until Xmas day. Then Xmas day came and we weren't allowed anything cos it would spoil dinner 🤨 My mum still is like this! Then complain that there is so much left in the house through Jan! I'll take my own treats when we visit on boxing day!

Titsywoo · 21/12/2019 20:36

Not until Xmas Eve - 3 days of eating lots of food then back to normal or we'll all feel rubbish! Plus the food costs enough without having to keep restocking snacks!
