AIBU to think my cat isn't going to come back home :(

My cat was usually a house cat but we have recently got a cat flap so are allowing him to come and go as he pleases. He has been neutered and microchipped.

Over the last 2 weeks he has started bringing home live mice, dead birds, live birds - basically the animals of farthing wood.

I let him out Wednesday morning and closed the cat flap as didn't want him bringing anything home whilst I was at work.

He hasn't been home since :(

The last time he went missing, our neighbour found him in her garden after him being run over. He was insured but only for £4k, vet bill came to £7k. Still paying that off.

I am pregnant and this is causing me huge distress, I am so so worried about him. I have printed off leaflets for the neighbours to ask them to check their garden sheds, houses etc.

He never goes missing for more than a few hours. Never.

He isn't coming back is he?

I have rang the local vets too but nothing. Last night I walked the streets, looking at side of roads, ditches, gardens and hedges - calling him. I didn't eat last night and I feel bereft!

I feel for you OP. Our cat went missing over the weekend, luckily he did reappear and it seems he had been hit by a car. He had a lot of swelling so has been on meds to reduce that & manage the pain, and we go back to the vets Monday for x ray and possible surgery if needed. He seems brighter and more mobile today so I’m hoping for the best.
I hated the not knowing whilst he was gone. I really hope your cat comes strolling in.

I think some people may be in the wrong thread?

How was the scan today OP?

Still thinking of you and fingers crossed!

Vilanelle · 22/12/2019 10:46

@cosima1 the scan went well, we found out we are having a little boy which is lovely and distracted me for a while. I'm feeling a bit more chilled out and accepted he could just be out hunting.

I have left cat flap open and put food down so we can tell of hes been in, also have the dog camera pointing at cat flap so I get notifications on my phone.

I've put his litter tray and throw in the garden and just waiting patiently now! Going to put up some more posters today, but for now I must go and do the Christmas food shop! Maybe the smell of turkey will magically bring him home lol

AIBU to think my cat isn't going to come back home :(

You poor thing.
Nothing worse than cats going AWOL. One of us did it twice and it was the most stressful 5 days.

Congrats on your baby boy and fingers crossed cat will be home for Christmas.
