Or am I really a dirty git

I've just got back from a long dog walk, wellies and boots are both pretty much covered in brown.

I haven't washed the wellies, in fact, I very rarely, ahem, virtually never Blush wash them.

And I haven't washed the dog either.
I'll just brush her later, vacuum and wipe off any splatters on the wall.

DH thinks I should wash the wellies and dog (big double coated breed!) after every mucky outing...

He thinks I'm most filthy
🤣

After walks with my similar breed dogs I found it easier to let them dry and clean the floor. Muddy walls were a daily occurrence

Didntwanttochangemyname · 19/12/2019 13:55

I never wash my dog, I bear the scars from the last attempt 3 years ago! And I've never washed my wellies either. The fact that you are worrying about this stuff when it's never occurred to me is now worrying me!

windycuntryside · 19/12/2019 13:56

Sounds like hell to me.

Newkitchen123 · 19/12/2019 13:56

Walks!
Actually walls as well lol

windycuntryside · 19/12/2019 13:56

I wouldn’t describe you as dirty though. It’s me personal decision.

UnravellingThreads · 19/12/2019 13:57

My big, mucky dog died very suddenly on a dog walk on Monday. I wish I'd worried less about the mud and just enjoyed her company more. If you have a dog(s), you have committed to a bit of a mucky home I reckon.

formerbabe · 19/12/2019 13:57

Gross but I'm the least dog/mud/countryside person ever!

Cosmos45 · 19/12/2019 13:58

I must admit I have a very dog friendly house - well, Kitchen to be more specific. It has a stone floor that can take massive punishment from Dogs, muddy wellies etc as it never looks dirty. In reality it is probably filthy just before it gets washed. However, I do hose my wellies off and the dog before going into the house. I have a short haired breed that is low to the ground and her stomach and legs are always filthy. I prefer to clean the dog and the wellies rather than the house.

Lockheart · 19/12/2019 13:58

Unless the wellies are carrying an extra few pounds of mud I don't wash mine either. They'll get washed next time it rains. They're wellies!

I do wipe the dogs down before I let them into carpeted rooms though. But I've never bathed or washed my dogs unless they've rolled in something foul - if you get them in the river a couple of times a week they stay pretty clean.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 19/12/2019 13:58

This weather will the dog ever get dry if you have to wash it every time it gets mud on it.

raspberryk · 19/12/2019 13:58

Nah wellies don't need cleaning you just bang off the mud when it dries and brush the dog when it's dry too.
Unless our pup is covered in shit she isn't getting a bath either.

Cosmos45 · 19/12/2019 13:59

@UnravellingThreads - so sorry to hear about your sad loss. You must be heartbroken. Flowers

TheKitchenWitch · 19/12/2019 14:01

I leave my wellies outside if they’re like that and they get washed every now and again.
Dog gets paws washed after every walk (she goes in our bed!) and washed as necessary but about once every couple of weeks otherwise she smells. More often if she’s muddy it has rolled in shit obvs.

WeirdCatLady · 19/12/2019 14:01

Nah, stuff washing your wellies, what’s the bloody point in that? And I guess he is welcome to wash the dog if it offends him deeply. Best advice for dogs is to let them dry and then give a good brush anyway.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 19/12/2019 14:03

Suggest he washes the dog if it upsets him so much.

Wellies are supposed to be muddy! That's the whole bloody point.

frostedviolets · 19/12/2019 14:05

The house always looks clean imo, it probably isn't though as I always pick up eye watering amounts of dust and hair in the vacuum, but it looks clean, but then we have all wood floors, silk painted (wipe clean) walls and leather furniture (that the dog isn't allowed on).
orobably be a different story if it was all Matt paint and carpet...

And no chaz aside from the fact she is big and double coated so washing is a real chore anyway she'd take hours to fully dry!

I've never washed my wellies. I leave the mud to dry on them and then just knock it off outside.

Dog rarely gets a wash. Just brushed, and the mud falls out. Our labrador was almost never washed at all. Just regular (ish) brushing.

Our spaniel does need the occasional shampoo, but only about every three or four months when I am about to run the clippers over her because her coat is getting too long.

Shampooing them too often can upset the balance of oils in their skin.

montmatre · 19/12/2019 14:06

I have a 40kg longhaired GSD who will find the muddiest puddle to bathe in after 2 mins of mild exertion.

My wellies get left in the boot (very occasionally washed). After each muddy walk my dog gets lead through into the kitchen where I dry him off - we get through a lot of towels in winter. I then lay out a towel for him to sleep it off in his favourite corner. If he's particularly bad I'll probably mozy around in the kitchen and wait for him to dry off - can't leave him alone as he gets quite upset.

My Vax carpet cleaner and Karcher easily deal with any mess that is made. Good job he is beyond lovely and makes my heart melt.

A wet muddy dog escaping from a bath and running along the cream carpet on the landing sounds like hell. Why bother washing wellies? My husband thoroughly cleaned mine at the weekend and they're already covered.

montmatre · 19/12/2019 14:08

We installed very expensive cream carpet 4 months before getting my boy - big mistake!

Willow2017 · 19/12/2019 14:08

I used to wash our dogs paws if they were muddy/icy in winter and obviously dry them. Good brush once dry if needed later.

Washing a dog after every walk wtf?

Wellies get a good bash together outside that's it. I put them in soapy water to wash once when covered in dog crap, from someone else's dog I hasten to add and they were soaked through by time I remembered about them! Never washed them again😀

recrudescence · 19/12/2019 14:09

If you want a show home, don’t get a dog.

StillMedusa · 19/12/2019 14:29

What's the point of washing wellies? They are there to get muddy! I take mine off in the hall and they stay there til the next walk.
As for washing the dog each time.. forget it! Mine's also double coated and takes many hours to dry out after a shower..she'd be a permanently soggy doggy Grin
We shower her about once a month unless she's rolled in something grim..usual mud just dries off her!

Flusteredcustard · 19/12/2019 14:32

UnravelledThreads, so sorry to hear, how awful, so sorry you've lost your dear dog

Twooter · 19/12/2019 14:32

Dogs and wellies are both self-cleaning. Yanbu.

Blobby10 · 19/12/2019 14:33

I used to hose down my dogs (labradors - one black and one yellow) outside so did my wellies too. Dogs were then towel dried before being let back into the house (where they invariably shook themselves - despite having done so outside- thus splattering everywhere with droplets of muddy water and hair that hadn't quite got cleaned off Grin). I don't miss this now my dogs aren't here any more. x
