Or am I really a dirty git

I've just got back from a long dog walk, wellies and boots are both pretty much covered in brown.

I haven't washed the wellies, in fact, I very rarely, ahem, virtually never Blush wash them.

And I haven't washed the dog either.
I'll just brush her later, vacuum and wipe off any splatters on the wall.

DH thinks I should wash the wellies and dog (big double coated breed!) after every mucky outing...

He thinks I'm most filthy
🤣

I have a small, double-coated dog so I do dunk him in the laundry room sink if he gets covered in mud and then towel-dry him. He likes to roll on a towel on the floor as well!

It's a pain and he gives me miserable looks during the bath. It does take a while for him to dry off, but that's our routine.

Wellies are left on the porch!

DingDongSchadenfreudeOnHigh · 19/12/2019 14:36

My big, mucky dog died very suddenly on a dog walk on Monday.

I am so sorry unravelling. What a terrible shock that must have been for you - and how difficult in practical terms to get his poor body home again. It must have been dreadful for you in every way. You must be heartbroken.

I don't wash my wellies ever, I don't have an outdoor tap that works and I'm not putting them in the kitchen sink!

CSIblonde · 19/12/2019 14:37

I'd probably use kitchen roll on paws , for damage limitation, get the worst off & dry dog off quicker. My longhair cat gets a paw & belly wipe down when wet & dirty from the woods.

FuriousFlannels · 19/12/2019 14:40

Are you me?

Get a roomba and a braava. They have changed my life.

unravelling Flowers for you x

DingDongSchadenfreudeOnHigh · 19/12/2019 14:41

Oh - and I rarely wash my wellies (only if I've been trudging though cow poo, but hose the spanners off if they are very muddy (3 of them, never clipped, only brushed out daily, so coats are long and beautiful, and absolutely ripe for picking up tons of mud.

If they aren't too bad I just leave them - they dry pretty quickly, the mud slides off and covers the house in a layer of dust that I wipe up when I can be arse fairly regularly. Xmas Grin

FrederickSinclair · 19/12/2019 14:41

We live on a farm, I'd never bloody sit down if I had to wash my wellies every time they got muddy. As for the dogs, our terrier almost never gets washed apart from the times he smothers himself in fox poo. He seems to do a pretty good job of cleaning himself. We had a spaniel who needed her feet hosed off after reeeeeally muddy walks because it would just dry in huge balls on her fluffy feet otherwise and then need cutting out. The rest of her could just be brushed when the mud dried though. But then I think we probably are pretty grubby people. I would much rather have our home and belongings covered in mud and dog hair than live without DH/dogs/the farm though. Bit of mud never hurt anyone.

BrokenWing · 19/12/2019 14:42

Our labrador comes in and gets a good rub down with a dog towel, he then lies on absorbent/washable vet bed until he dries off fully and then I just pretend he is clean..

Washing everyday isn't good for their skin.

What is the point of washing wellies if they are just going to get dirty again!

paranoidmum2 · 19/12/2019 14:43

wellies and boots are both pretty much covered in brown.

Does brown mean poo?

CMOTDibbler · 19/12/2019 14:44

My wellies just live on the doorstep, and never get washed.
The dogs (long legged, so they don't get too awful) do get confined to the sitting room till dry as the floor is vinyl so a quick swish and its clean. They only get bathed after a fox poo incident

YouretheChristmasCarcass · 19/12/2019 14:46

Tell him if he wants the dog washed, he's perfectly capable of doing it himself. Same for the wellies.

Squirrel26 · 19/12/2019 14:46

Life is too short to wash wellies.

Aquilla · 19/12/2019 14:49

Dog's legs and belly plus wellies hosed down here every day... But I love doing it! Very satisfying.

JKScot4 · 19/12/2019 14:49

@UnravellingThreads
How very sad, I’m sure your girl lived & loved well 🐶🌈

😂
First of all I meant to say 'wellies and dog are both', not wellies and boots as that doesn't make much sense!

And no, just brown with mud. No poo.

I never wash my wellies. I might stomp in a puddle and occasionally run them under the outside tap that’s it.

Never bath the dog either. Better to brush the mud off.

MereDintofPandiculation · 19/12/2019 14:51

Only reason to wash wellies is for biosecurity - eg to avoid transferring disease from one pond to another.

Coquohvan · 19/12/2019 14:51

We’ve got at tap outside back garden. Shower mixer thing Hot and cold water, always hose our dogs feet and belly towel dry before coming in. If there’s a mucky puddle she’s in it. Wellies left in holders by back door, upside down usually clean with the rain or just bang together when dried.

paap1975 · 19/12/2019 14:54

My approach is: towel dry dog and pop it into the house. Take off boots and leave them to dry, then bang together to get the worst of the mud off (optional). Dogs should not be being washed all the time. They clean themselves.

Strugglingtodomybest · 19/12/2019 14:56

Life is too short to wash wellies.

Couldn't agree more.

NewName73 · 19/12/2019 14:57

I never wash my wellies, but always wash down the dog's paws and legs because of Alabama Rot.

Honeyroar · 19/12/2019 14:59

Oh Unravelling, I’m sorry. I lost one of mine just before Xmas two years ago. My husband put her photo in a snow globe that comes out every year at Xmas and we planted her a Xmas tree where she is buried at the bottom of the garden.

My wellies get swished in a puddle or little stream outside our house, but I have horses so muck out in them and they smell. My dogs get their feet dried off with a towel if they’re wet. My little fluffy white dog gets bathed once a month when you can barely distinguish her light brown patches from her white!

Topseyt · 19/12/2019 15:04

Just to add - there are only a couple of occasions from my labrador's life (he lived until he was 15) when I really needed to shampoo him.

Once was when we had been for a long walk in the local fields. The farmers had left enormous mountains of muck (shit really) for spreading on the field as fertiliser. Mr. Labrador decided it would be great fun to splodge through it, jump in it, paddle in it up to and above his belly. You name it. He utterly stank and the smell followed me home through our small town. No way could he go into the house like that so I had to hose him off in the back garden and shampoo him, which he wasn't impressed with.

The only other time was when we had been away on holiday and he came back from kennels with fleas, despite being up-to-date with his treatments.

Notodontidae · 19/12/2019 15:04

Carry on enjoying the walks, I only clean my boots when the mud is caked on the sole, or close to the rim. Only wash the dog if something offensive is on the coat, or maybe if the dogs been in the sea.

partyhatsoff · 19/12/2019 15:07

We towel down our muddy dog, paws included. Short hair though so no caked mud to worry about later. No washing, she hates it. And no I wouldn;t wash wellies, I;d leave them to dry and knock the mud off next time I used them
