I've just got back from a long dog walk, wellies and boots are both pretty much covered in brown.

I haven't washed the wellies, in fact, I very rarely, ahem, virtually never Blush wash them.

And I haven't washed the dog either.
I'll just brush her later, vacuum and wipe off any splatters on the wall.

DH thinks I should wash the wellies and dog (big double coated breed!) after every mucky outing...

He thinks I'm most filthy
🤣

Dog waterproof coat for a muddy walk. Legs and feet will be muddy but body won't be too bad.

Most people that have a dog have a house that smells like dog, sorry! So wash your dog, don’t wash your dog, it probably won’t make a huge difference.

When I go on a property porn hunt I’m always envious of those homes with huge cloakroom/utility rooms that have one of those low level sink/baths with a shower head for mucky pups Grin

I would leave the wellies in the hall and not worry about them.

But I couldn’t cope with a muddy dog moving the mud all over the house. But then I’m not a dog person to be fair so the thought of a dog in my house full stop makes me Shock. We looked after my mums 3 dogs for her when she went into hospital for 2 weeks and I was ready to set fire to the house by the time they left. My cleanliness levels just can’t handle it. Blush

I am really interested about what you are saying about daily washing being bad for their skin.

I'm more referring to people who use soap/shampoo etc. on a regular basis - sorry if that wasn't clear! Ours gets hosed off if he gets really filthy but I try to avoid products as he has quite sensitive skin (beagle).

I don't want to be unkind, but I find it very very strange how many people on MN (and therefore presumably also in rl) have such an incredibly strong and visceral reaction to even the idea of dirt and bacteria. People who claim to 'boak' at the thought of perfectly normal and natural substances, bodily functions and outdoor things like mud.

It can't be healthy to have such a horror-ridden disconnect with our own bodies, with the animals which share the planet with us, and with and our surroundings. Touching and interacting with animals, soil, trees, plants and other humans is good for us.

Well said lazylinguist. And I'll take my doggy-smelling house any day over one that smells of artificial air freshner and laundry freshner and anti-bacterial this and that spray and carpet freshner.

Those all give me asthma. The smell of my dog doesn't.
