Or am I really a dirty git

I've just got back from a long dog walk, wellies and boots are both pretty much covered in brown.

I haven't washed the wellies, in fact, I very rarely, ahem, virtually never Blush wash them.

And I haven't washed the dog either.
I'll just brush her later, vacuum and wipe off any splatters on the wall.

DH thinks I should wash the wellies and dog (big double coated breed!) after every mucky outing...

He thinks I'm most filthy
🤣

I don't wear wellies but if I use my walking shoes, I let them.dry then brush off the mud.

Celebelly · 19/12/2019 15:08

YANBU. If I washed my dog every time she got muddy she would never be out of the bath! I just keep her in kitchen till she dries and then hoover up the mud flakes! It's good old-fashioned healthy dirt! Grin

JudgeRindersMinder · 19/12/2019 15:10

As long as you’re not going to handle food with your unwashed wellies it’s fine with me!

FizzyGreenWater · 19/12/2019 15:10

Perfect opportunity for your DH to share the responsibility of your JOINT dog that YOU'VE just walked. He can be the washer!

TheQueef · 19/12/2019 15:10

Only ever washed the Qpoodles if they had shit rolled.
Life is too short.

Celebelly · 19/12/2019 15:10

So sorry for your loss @UnravellingThreads Thanks I'll find a particularly disgusting puddle for DDog to roll in to honour her memory x

Dislocatedeyeballs · 19/12/2019 15:18

Have to shower dog nearly every time we go for walk as he's small and just loves to jump in thick black smelly mud when the tides out, it stinks he's covered in it and his white fur turns black he thinks he is the bees neez when covered in it and is super excited then has a routine of running and rolling around madly like a loon to dry afterwards he sleeps on my bed and is allowed on furniture so no way can I not wash it off. As for wellies unless covered in poo life's too short for cleaning them what's the point? Its what they are made for.

Butterflyflower1234 · 19/12/2019 15:19

I never wash my wellies, isn't the point of them to be muddy? And my wellies are Mulberry so you'd think I'd take better care lol

You can buy dog wet wipes if you wanted to give her a once over. My dog loves a bath but he's short haired so doesn't take long to dry.

If your DH is that aghast with the 'fifth' I suggest he cleans both whilst you rest your feet after a long walk Smile

Aprilsinparis · 19/12/2019 15:20

@UnravellingThreads I am so sorry for your loss, they truly are out best friends.Flowers

Justlovedogs · 19/12/2019 15:22

Wash wellies? Splash about in a deep(ish) puddle to get the worst off!

Bathe dogs? Run through long grass to remove worst of mud, towel off with old bath towel before entering house, hoover floor of dust when dried and fallen off.

If you're a dirty git, so am I!!! Grin

Justlovedogs · 19/12/2019 15:24

Forgot to say, my dogs would never dry out at this time of year if I washed them every time they got muddy! Smile

gonewiththerain · 19/12/2019 15:29

I rinse the worst of mud off wellies under tap dogs are towelled dry. It’s an easy middle option

IncrediblySadToo · 19/12/2019 15:32

@UnravellingThreads oh I’m so very sorryto hear about your dog! 💐. That must have been an awful shock.

@frostedviolets. DH does, does he?! Tell him he’s welcome to polish your wellies if he’s bothered! If you wash the dog after every walk it’ll be permanently damp poor thing! Or if you blow dry it, it’ll be very bad for your digs skin. Not to mention the fact if I had to do that every time the dog got dirty is never walk it! Far too much faff!

ChickenyChick · 19/12/2019 15:38

really?

I have an old towel and just wipe the mud off the dog (short coated dog, so easy)

I leave my muddy wellies in the porch

Not hard?!

PrtScn · 19/12/2019 15:38

I never clean my wellies, just leave them in the porch,
As for the dog, I dry her off with a towel or make her play (I say make but it takes no encouragement) in her paddling pool/nearby stream before she comes back in the house if she’s particularly muddy.

RIBlue · 19/12/2019 15:48

Wellies left in the utility for the next time and dog directed to go lie in his bed. He is very house proud so Immediately sets about cleaning his feet and legs and his undercarriage dries whilst he does this.

He has two farm walks a day, I would spend my life bathing him your DH’s way!

Zaphodsotherhead · 19/12/2019 15:53

I never wash my dog. It's not good for them. Unfortunately she's mostly white and sports a great 'tide mark' half way up her, but if it's really bad I just rub her down. It's far far easier to wash the sofa throws and the rugs than it is to bath a terrier that really doesn't want to be bathed and is filthy at least three times a day. She'd never be dry!

XXXXXX42 · 19/12/2019 16:16

My filthy dog is asleep on the sofa (on a throw). when I get a minute I'll give him a Xmas bath but only because he is grey rather than his normal white.

CanIGoHomeNowPlease · 19/12/2019 16:21

Why on earth would anyone wash wellies unless you’ve stepped in shit.... as the the dog, I just rub mine down with a ‘dog towel’ and banish them to the dog room until they’re less wet!

TheKitchenWitch · 19/12/2019 16:22

The mud is wet anyway, so rinsing the dog doesn't make her any wetter ime. She dries in the same time after washing as she would if I just left her muddy.
I'm not very precious about the house but I wouldn't let my kids (or indeed anyone!) walk around with mud on their shoes / clothes, so same applies to the dog!

CorBlimeyGovenor · 19/12/2019 16:26

Your husband is wrong. Tell him that he should wash the dog and the wellies after a walk.

Mydogmylife · 19/12/2019 16:36

Wellies rinsed under tap if particularly bad, but usually just left to dry them mud knocked off. Ddog is quite small and fluffy, so towel dry, then a dog robe popped on until dry.( keeps mud off floors, walls furniture) once dry a quick brush gets any remaining mud off , good as new. Feet always washed though if we've been anywhere near grit. You husband needs to give himself a shake!!

adaline · 19/12/2019 16:38

Our dog doesn't get washed after every walk either!

We go straight into the kitchen and he gets a towel down to get the mud off, then I can wipe the floor and the towel goes in the wash. He then gets let into the living room and I can sweep the floor and give it a mop if necessary. I don't think washing him would be any more effective, except I'd then need to clean the bath as well!

Wellies get left outside or in the boot cupboard if it's raining, then they get a bang off outside once the mud has dried.

Apolloanddaphne · 19/12/2019 16:38

I never wash my wellies and I just give the dog (Labrador) a quick wipe down with a towel to take off the worst of the mud. She only gets shampooed if she rolls in fox poo.

MoaningMinniee · 19/12/2019 16:48

It is a good idea to rinse the mud off dog's feet especially at this time of year. Google Alabama Rot Sad I know two dogs who have died of this.
