YABU for calling them «pensioner» trolleys. I’ve had one for years for supermarket shopping, lots of people of all ages use them

drivingtofrance · 17/12/2019 08:19

I'd have one if I didn't drive.

I see students using them so they aren't for pensioners only. 😊

Some of them are really very modern in design.

Puta · 17/12/2019 08:19

YANBU. Trolleys rock.

Just be warned: they breed. You'll want one in every size, shape and colour once you realise how useful they are.

WeirdPookah · 17/12/2019 08:19

After having a buggy with a massive under basket for basically 6 years I really fancy one of these to replace the buggy when my 2nd child is too old for it. I will miss the carrying capacity so much!
I'm torn on it because I don't want to look stupid.

PosieParkerIsAHero · 17/12/2019 08:19

Oh come on. Traditionally 95 of the people I see with them are elderly ladies.

I'm thinking just the plain black 20 quid one from argos as I can pick it up right off the bus and get on with it.

I live in a fairly "green" area and all the shop local zero waste types have them.

PosieParkerIsAHero · 17/12/2019 08:21

Ah weird. Yes. I miss the buggy days.

I was a champion at tetris style shopping stacking.

I wish they made a more trendy alternative, I wouldn't be seen dead with one until i'm at least 60 but my friend has one and shes 26 (Aspie).

MoreSparrowThanHawk · 17/12/2019 08:23

I live in Spain. Everyone has them, young, old, business people, punks, hippies, students. I don't know why they don't in the UK, it's common sense. Why on earth would you have plastic carrier bags digging into your fingers.

outherealone · 17/12/2019 08:23

I have one. I miss my buggy days. I don’t drive and have disabilities. I only use it for ‘local’ shopping and feel hugely self conscious but nobody seems particularly interested!
Just do it and save yourself the pain and stress.

kristallen · 17/12/2019 08:23

Get one with good wheels is my tip.

I have one with wheels that roll up and down steps and it's good but I reckon just decent wheels would be good.

I'm not a pensioner either.

They're very normal to have if you live in Paris...

drspouse · 17/12/2019 08:24

Mine is eye searing orange and pink striped from Habitat back in the day. Other brightly coloured brands are available.

Powerplant · 17/12/2019 08:24

A lot of the uni students use them where I live

tillytrotter1 · 17/12/2019 08:24

Only as long as you can drive it without cracking every shin you pass!

fairislecable · 17/12/2019 08:24

Think of the trolley as a tool to help you in the job you have to do.

No one feels shame at using a mixer instead of a wooden spoon definitely buy the trolley.

Happy shopping.

JustOneSquareofDarkChocolate · 17/12/2019 08:24

Orla Kiely used to do a fancy one. I’m friends with the bag and accessory buyer for a high end high street label and I tried to get him to introduce them and he was like Xmas Hmm but I think there’s a gap in the market!

Sgtmajormummy · 17/12/2019 08:25

They’re really quite cool. reisenthel.com have sturdy, even cool bag ones. I have one with three wheels on the axle. Goes up steps a treat.

drivingtofrance · 17/12/2019 08:25

The other option would be to take a rucksack.

I used to be able to walk to my local Lidl before moving house, and would take my big travelling rucksack so that I could walk home in comfort.

Just a little cumbersome if you're in a busy department store though.

DoraleeRhodes · 17/12/2019 08:26

I have a backpack which converts to a trolley type thing. Don’t care how it looks, it’s really useful

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 17/12/2019 08:27

I had one when I was a student. Could fit 2ncrates of coder and a weeks shop in it. Plus i used it to cart my washing across to the laundrette.

Strangely I'd feel self conscious using one now and I'm not sure why. Probably because of the association with pensioners unfortunately.

zafferana · 17/12/2019 08:28

Definitely get one! It's terrible for your body to be hunched over with all the weight of bags hanging from your hands. Much better to have a trolley and drag it along behind you. I used one when I lived in a city with no car and needed to do a big shop.

MoreSparrowThanHawk · 17/12/2019 08:28

We used ours this past weekend to collect our Christmas tree.

My tip - Get one with four wheels, no effort at all. This is like our current one www.amazon.co.uk/CARRO-Compra-Play-Bluish-Grey/dp/B079KJ16KW/?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 We upgraded from a 2 wheeler about 5 years ago.

*2 crates of cider.

AlexaShutUp · 17/12/2019 08:29

I live in a university town and have noticed that a lot of the female Chinese students use these. I hope that they catch on more widely, would make life so much easier!
