Its much better for you to carry your own stuff. Gets you fitter and stronger. Or get a bike

SyntheticPumpkin · 17/12/2019 17:49

@LifeBeginsNow Yes, they exist! I looked at this one but don’t need a seat as much now so got a 3 wheel stair climbing one instead

Years ago I thought about setting up a company that would make and sell modern shopping trolleys. Perhaps I should have done it.

TroysMammy · 17/12/2019 17:54

I've had one for 10 years. I bought it after I went on a big shopping trip and lost the will to live juggling bags. I use it for heavy things like cleaning stuff and big shopping trips. You can also use it to accidentally ram people who get in your way Grin Shock.

Lincslady53 · 17/12/2019 17:54

On a self catering hol in Spain last year, the apartment had one for guests to use. It was brilliant, and the supermarket, a large Mercadona, had lockable chains at the front for customers to lock their trolleys up while doing their shopping. It was brilliant, and people of all ages used them.

Chesntoots · 17/12/2019 17:55

I love Audrey!!!

No tartan in sight...

ineedaholidaynow · 17/12/2019 17:59

Some of my teacher friends who live locally to the school have them to carry school books in to take home for marking, as they don’t drive to the school.

They are much more common among younger people now

BloomedAgain · 17/12/2019 18:05

So the advice is:
Rubber wheels, wheels that roll up and down stairs (?), not thin nylon.
I really need one.

PosieParkerIsAHero · 17/12/2019 19:36

There's absolutely nothing wrong with being an older woman!

I define elderly as 70+

I simply meant at 34 I would look out of sorts against the ladies that can't carry shopping due to age and also use them for stability.

I am considering getting one, especially now the dcs are using the buggy less and less.
Ikea have quite funky ones and they are about £16 I think.

Vulpine - Its much better for you to carry your own stuff. Gets you fitter and stronger. Or get a bike

Disagree. If I didn't have my trolley I'd get a minicab or a bus back from the supermarket. With my trolley I walk back, which is over a mile, much of it uphill. So for me having a trolley is getting me fitter and stronger. Straining my arms, as I have done in the past by carrying heavy bags from the shops, doesn't do that.

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 17/12/2019 20:00

I remember back in the late 90s fancy shopping-trolleys became very fashionable. I bought one quite a few years ago and can’t understand why I didn’t get one sooner. I have a cat so litter needs to be bought and do not drive so it’s been invaluable. It’s a natty, fake leopard-skin design and is the best tenner I ever spent.

Get one if you need one, your hands, arms and shoulders will thank you

BinkyBaa · 17/12/2019 20:02

Do it, I had one at 18. Far cheaper than a car! I suppose if you're worried about looking funny, you could use a small suitcase?

AntiHop · 17/12/2019 20:05

I'm in my 40s and had one since my 20s. I also don't drive. It was particularly useful before online grocery shopping was a thing. And very useful for shopping when I had my baby in a sling.

TheLittleBrownFox · 17/12/2019 20:07

My mum uses a 4 wheeler and she fancied one for years before she got one. She thinks it's great, I must admit I associate them with my granny Xmas Grin

My colleague in her 30s however has a 2 wheeler that's much more practical. I drive and she doesn't, and the only reason I haven't joined her and bought one is I Donner know hows much I'd use it.

They come in so many different designs, you can definitely get young and funky looking ones!

TheLittleBrownFox · 17/12/2019 20:08

Don't*

Why has my autocorrect started naming reindeer?!

musicinspring1 · 17/12/2019 20:10

I got one as Soon as my youngest was out of the buggy. Am in suburbs of London and quite a few younger people have them- they are eco and so handy - wouldn’t be without it now ! Go for it !

Vulpine · 17/12/2019 20:17

Gasp - if you walked back with the shopping on your back you'd be even fitter

DianaT1969 · 17/12/2019 20:18

What do you do with them when you are in the supermarket with a basket? No hands free to pick anything off shelves. I live inner city and the smaller supermarkets around here (express type) don't have trolleys you could lift it into.

MitziK · 17/12/2019 20:19

I couldn't carry shopping aged 26.

Not all disabled people are elderly. Some even have children to shop for.

And as I said earlier, DP didn't have a problem with using his grandmother's one to get her shopping aged 16. Doubt it complimented his then long, jet black hair, biker jacket and jeans, but he wasn't that shallow, I guess.

TheGinGenie · 17/12/2019 20:20

I have one, it's way better than shopping bags (and greener) and I don't give a fuck if anyone thinks I'm an old woman for having one (I'm in my 30s)

musicinspring1 · 17/12/2019 20:23

@DianaT1969
I actually fill it up as I go around using it like a shopping trolley and then unload and refill it at the checkout. No one has said anything to me about that yet ..... 🤷‍♀️

TooManyPaws · 17/12/2019 20:28

I've got one in black with multi-coloured 🦉 owls all over it. It's brilliant.

kinsss · 17/12/2019 20:28

I have a plain black wheelie backpack. Holds loads, it goes on my back on the way out and whilst shopping, I then use it wheeled when it gets too heavy. It is one of the best things I have ever bought.

I live in a city and it's very common to see people with trollies and wheelie suitcases. Makes so much sense really. Go for it!

PosieParkerIsAHero · 17/12/2019 21:06

Vulpine I did my shopping at the city centre 6 miles away. I wouldn't be walking home 6 miles in December anyways
