To be annoyed at Quality Street for sneakily replacing the Toffee Deluxe?

My absolute favourite Quality Street, the toffee deluxe in the shiny brown wrapper (memories!) is no more and has been replaced with a chocolate caramel brownie! How could they? Apparently its sudden demise happened some months ago but I only found out today after opening a tin! At first I was looking frantically for one, then I saw on the side of the tin that it doesn't feature anymore! AIBU to feel cheated? 😠 the replacement is not nice at all btw! What is / was your favourite Quality Street?

They decided to use palm oil, which let's face it, makes chocolate taste shit. I don't buy it any more. Sad

Butterfly98 · 20/12/2019 07:44

Does anyone know of any chocolate that doesn't contain palm oil? Cadbury's was the best before it was taken over by Kraft. Has anyone here ever tried a HERSHEY bar? My American colleagues used to go wild for them and would always bring a box back when they visited the US. It would be left in the office for everyone to help themselves. I always knew when someone was eating one as the place would smell like vomit, it's actually true for anyone who hasn't tried one!!

The new brownie thing is crap. All the soft caramels are. I'm good with losing the brown one though as there were too many toffees.

Hershey and all amercian chocolate is vile. They add some weird acidic preservatives to it (which is the vomit smell) and it always has a slightly gritty texture yet a waxy finish and aftertaste.

Cadbury's in Australia (and other overseas places) was shit before Cadbury all went crap because to stop it melting on the shelves in the higher temperatures the recipe was different with more stabilisers and preservatives.

now Kraft have made the cadbury chocolate shit too.

Tony's chocolate doesn't use palm oil but I'm not aware of any major mainstream brand which doesn't.

I'm in a very bad mood this morning as I went to the sad tub of Quality street which we have thinking I would grab a couple to bring to work for a little treat this afternoon (maybe a coconut one and a green triangle) to discover that my "D"S has snaffled every SINGLE chocolate apart from the soft centres. Xmas Angry only vile creams and the despised chocolate brownie left. hmph.

@soupforbrains it's so disappointing when you go to the tin toting all your favourites gone! That happens in our house a lot!

Now I'm FURIOUS as I was just looking at the label on the Cadbury's Roses tin to see that the chewy caramel BRAZILIAN DARKNESS had also been discontinued! Why are all the nice chewy caramels being abandoned suddenly?!

Tony's chocoloney is palm oil free and I love it. It's expensive, but I'd rather have one/two bar of that a month, than Cadburys. It tastes to me, like real chocolate instead of 'chocolate flavour'. No assortment though...

Mistlewoeandwhine · 20/12/2019 22:02

I bought a big plastic tub and have filled it with a vast selection of all of our favourite sweets.

@Justanothernameonthepage - Tony's Chocoloney is available as an assortment, we bought a box of mixed little Tony's from Amazon. It wasn't cheap but I'm sure it will be worth it! It's not the same as a tin of Quality Street, with all the different fillings in cheerful festive wrapping (I loved that QS looked like jewels, glowing in glass bowls) but at least there's no palm oil!

brendansbuddy · 21/12/2019 07:59

There should be a national drop-off bank for the orange/coffee/strawberry creams.

Butterfly98 · 21/12/2019 09:37

Yeah @brendansbuddy I agree!

I'd like to buy a whole tin of orange and coffee ones. You can keep the rest.

KateK00 · 21/12/2019 10:55

Yabu it tasted exactly the same as the toffee finger IMHO and the new brownie one tastes great 😁

LeSquigh · 21/12/2019 19:26

I got the Costco £6/7 big tub too. I also got a pick n mix from JL which was overpriced but for me worth it as I have 4 favourites and the rest get left. QS are DEFINITELY the best tub chocolates and they smell like Xmas! I hated the toffee deluxe (I hate all the toffees) so I am pleased. JL had an exclusive truffle one that is quite nice too. It’s in a black and gold wrapper.

LeSquigh · 21/12/2019 19:27

Also, I had heard the rumour about the plastic wraps being compostable but the recycling info on the tin says they are not so presumed it was an internet hoax.

PurpleFlower1983 · 21/12/2019 19:30

I’m a green triangle fan and I think it’s pretty safe but I do feel your pain...
