To be annoyed at Quality Street for sneakily replacing the Toffee Deluxe?

My absolute favourite Quality Street, the toffee deluxe in the shiny brown wrapper (memories!) is no more and has been replaced with a chocolate caramel brownie! How could they? Apparently its sudden demise happened some months ago but I only found out today after opening a tin! At first I was looking frantically for one, then I saw on the side of the tin that it doesn't feature anymore! AIBU to feel cheated? 😠 the replacement is not nice at all btw! What is / was your favourite Quality Street?

Noooooooooo

Though my teeth are probably grateful!!

My favourite is the one in the orange foil hard chocolate with bits in it.

I mostly buy them for the nostalgia (when I was little the whole extended family spent Christmas together and periodically the seemingly never ending tin would get passed around for everyone to choose one) & pretty wrappers that catch the Christmas tree lights when in a glass bowl.

I think as well as the tins being bigger years ago, we are all more ‘greedy’ now & things are less special because they’re cheaper/more abundant, so the tins lasted longer for that reason too.

I’m away at the moment, but feel a Costco trip coming on when I get back!!

Andysbestadventure · 16/12/2019 22:40

Yanbu. It was my favourite, also the most favourite apparently. Not sure why they have replaced it with that disgusting slimey brownie one, but I wont be buying them again until they put the toffee deluxe back in :(

I bought M&S's this year and they're OK. But equally as palm-oiley :'(

OkOkWhatsNext · 16/12/2019 22:57

There were too many toffee ones anyway. Isn’t there toffee penny and the gold choc covered toffee stick one? Plus several caramels and a fudge. Who needs another toffee? Coffee cream should be in there, and orange and strawberry creams are my favourite.

Rockbird · 16/12/2019 23:07

As long as they haven't touched the toffee penny and toffee finger, best ones in there!

BreconBeBuggered · 16/12/2019 23:07

I haven't bought QS since they removed that little domed chocolate truffle one. It's just full of stupid stuff now.

FlamingoAndJohn · 16/12/2019 23:16

I love toffee but I agree that there were too many toffee ones.

I remember one from back in the 80s that was a square. I think it was a toffee but I liked it because I liked the shape.

ViveLEntenteCordiale · 16/12/2019 23:33

Howlovely I will take your fudge ones Xmas Smile

Peanut cracknell was my favourite but I remember it being red...? I am old though!

I DO NOT want brownie in my Quality Street! I am gluten free apart from anything else and sure there are plenty of others out there with that problem. And what is it with brownies at the moment? Every time I buy a tub of ice cream I am faced with a whole array of brownie-filled (and gluten-containing) flavours.

Comefromaway · 16/12/2019 23:38

It was ruined for me when they got rid of cracknell

We did buy a tin of just toffee pennies last weekend for fil who is allergic to chocolate.

WriteronaMission · 16/12/2019 23:43

I knew something was missing but couldn't tell what. I'm not the biggest toffee fan though tbh. My favs are the orange ones and the purple hazelnut one.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 17/12/2019 00:12

That's disappointing about M&S. The Waitrose offering didn't seem to have very good reviews either.

rhubarbcrumbles · 17/12/2019 09:11

We can't buy them because they are made by Nestle.

gothefcktosleep · 17/12/2019 09:36

Wth are they playing at? Has the toffee penny and toffee stick survived? Xmas Angry

ByeGermsByeWorries · 17/12/2019 09:47

Bought roses on the weekend just for the coffee one to find it's gone Angry

Whathappenedtothelego · 17/12/2019 09:57

I agree. It seems to be the way now that all the chocolates in assortments are a bit samey. There used to be different wrappers, different shapes, different textures, but they are a bit meh and mostly different versions of caramel now.

I won't eat Roses now. You can't tell what it is supposed to be from the wrapper, because they all look the same, and you can't tell by eating it because they all taste the same (i.e., nasty and overly sweet).

M&S selection was Ok - Quality Street wannabe but not as good- at least there is a small frisson of nostalgia with QS even though they keep getting rid of the best ones.

I will buy chocolates for Christmas - considering getting Waitrose chocolate selection in a cardboard box and decanting into a biscuit tin. But they are untried and more expensive, so not sure.

Spied · 17/12/2019 10:04

The caramel brownie ones are my new favouritesSmile
Followed by orange cream.

BlaueLagune · 17/12/2019 10:06

Oh no really? They are my favourite too. I did say to DH that I wanted Heroes but he bought a tin (not a plastic tub) of Quality Street instead.

Sounds like there isn't much in there I like anymore. Oh well, better for the waistline I suppose.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 17/12/2019 10:07

Yanbu I was gutted to find no toffee deluxe.
Fucking Quality Shite.

Butterfly98 · 17/12/2019 10:19

@DontBuyANewMumCashmere yes I think they should rename it that as well! It seems more appropriate now!

Strawberry cream is the best, followed by orange cream and then the purple one. I had forgotten about cracknel until it was mentioned, it was so good!

BarbaraofSeville · 17/12/2019 11:08

M&S do a big assortment tin/tub. Anyone know if it's any good

It's OK, probably better than Roses or QS, but that's not saying much.

However, I have decided that, as I only really like the toffee and fudge ones, but end up eating all the shitey orange, coffee and strawberry creams anyway that I'm not going to buy the big tubs any more, and if I ever fancy some wrapped sweets like that, M&S (and probably all the other supermarkets) do bags of mixed eclairs, fudge and all sorts of other stuff for a pound each, so I'm going to buy a couple of those and stick them in a bowl or plastic tub.

Cheaper and less of the ones that no-one likes, get leftover, before greedy guts me eats them anyway.

CornishMaid1 · 17/12/2019 14:01

YANBU. I was gutted when the news came out as that is one of my favourites.

I was more annoyed they got rid of the toffee deluxe but kept the toffee penny and toffee finger. Why get rid of the nice harder toffee and keep two soft ones (I lost a filling to one of those last year). Would have been better to get rid of one of the soft toffees for a bit of variety.

SerenDippitty · 17/12/2019 14:06

My favourite was the Rolo type one and the blue, or was it green, coconut one.

soupforbrains · 17/12/2019 14:07

I could not agree with you more OP.

I was given a tub of QS a few weeks back and had been saving it for a treat. I opened it at the weekend with DS and my best friend. I was OUTRAGED and horrified at this most devious of switches. the Toffee deluxe was amazing and I loved it. it was my favourite.

This brownie thing is a) disgusting and shite and b) doesn't even taste like a brownie.

I vote we launch a twitter social media campaign to make sure Quality Street know we all hate it.

AuntieMarys · 17/12/2019 14:12

Somebody has bought us a box of the fuckers. We hate them.
So they've gone to the womens aid box.

PrivateSpidey · 17/12/2019 14:28

M&S The Big One is probably the next best, but agree with PPs, they all taste slightly the same.

Caramel Keg (Roses) was always my fave, and the coffee/strawberry orange cream trinity from Quality Street, but now they're just super sweet with no distinct flavour. Sad times.
