To be annoyed at Quality Street for sneakily replacing the Toffee Deluxe?

My absolute favourite Quality Street, the toffee deluxe in the shiny brown wrapper (memories!) is no more and has been replaced with a chocolate caramel brownie! How could they? Apparently its sudden demise happened some months ago but I only found out today after opening a tin! At first I was looking frantically for one, then I saw on the side of the tin that it doesn't feature anymore! AIBU to feel cheated? 😠 the replacement is not nice at all btw! What is / was your favourite Quality Street?

This is the tin I got at the weekend. £6 in Costco - might be special edition?

What?! How dare they? Quality street is a traditional Xmas offering and should not be tampered with bet they will now release "limited edition" versions including these and charge more for them

StillCoughingandLaughing · 16/12/2019 20:05

Is it my memory playing tricks on me, or did Quality Street used to include nougat AND montelimar chocolates at one time? I’ve never been entirely sure what montelimar is, but I’m sure it’s nougat-based.

JingleJangle951 · 16/12/2019 20:19

Incidentally, some (not all) John Lewis stores provide a customised Quality Street service - it let's you include only the ones you want. NB much more expensive than a regular tin/box so a bit of fun rather anything else www.johnlewis.com/our-services/how-to-customise-quality-street-at-john-lewis-and-partners

noooooooooo

managedmis · 16/12/2019 20:24

Tell me more about the brownie replacement

MoonlightMistletoe · 16/12/2019 20:25

Coffee ones what where? I love the orange and strawberry ones those are my favourites!

MrsDilligaf · 16/12/2019 20:27

DH and I have caved in and opened our tin. I did the John Lewis personalised tin, and like a plonked didn't put any orange ones in!! I am furious with myself.

The new ones are shite.

JillyBlooper · 16/12/2019 20:28

Montlimar, almond charm, Brazil nut toffee was roses. They used to be so much nicer than QS but they've taken all the good ones out. I buy QS now bit also miss the peanut cracknall.

RobinsEggBlue · 16/12/2019 20:30

The brownie replacement is totally revolting, tastes like play dough. I miss the toffee one Xmas Sad

1Morewineplease · 16/12/2019 21:23

I’m gutted!

Butterfly98 · 16/12/2019 21:39

@ActualHornist wow that tin is huge at nearly 2kgs!8 bet that was mote like the size of the one in the late 80's / early 90's?! I think we need to start a hashtag to let Quality Street know how put out we are about this! How about any of these #QualityStreetWhatsGoingOn

#QualityStreetBringBackToffeeDeluxe

#QualityStreetEveryonesTalkingAboutIt

More suggestions please!!

I miss the coffee ones. They were the best!

BackforGood · 16/12/2019 21:51

YANBU AT ALL Angry

SO I've wasted money on buying two tubs without ANY of the best one in there ??? Shock

That is beyond unreasonable. [sad[

Howlovely · 16/12/2019 21:53

I get really cross at the disproportionate amount of strawberry/orange/fudge ones compared to the ones I like. There rarely more than three or four purple ones but up to 14 orange creams. I've stopped buying them now as they just taste of regret and disappointment.
As an aside, I read the other day that Quality Street is the only tub of chocolates where all packaging is recyclable. The wrappers can be composted and the foil/find recycled apparently.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 16/12/2019 21:59

Are there any good alternatives to Roses/Quality Street/Celebrations out there? I love Aldi chocolate but their selection box/tub from last year or the year before looked a bit basic (selection of fillings!)
I wanted a decent quantity to share rather than a small selection box.

MulberryPeony · 16/12/2019 22:03

Yes I looked up the compostable wrappers and it is true. I’m not sure why QS aren’t singing their eco credentials from the rooftops.

beautifulstranger101 · 16/12/2019 22:04

YABVVVVVVU. Toffees suck. Orange creams FOREVER! Wink

memaymamo · 16/12/2019 22:06

M&S do a big assortment tin/tub. Anyone know if it's any good? I was thinking of swapping over from quality street this year as I always give DH a tin.

doodlejump1980 · 16/12/2019 22:06

Toffee deluxe was my favourite one too. Apparently they did this before and had only reintroduced it a few years back to then take it away again?! Not cool quality st. Not cool.

rhubarbcrumbles · 16/12/2019 22:07

Excellent, the toffee one was always the one that languished at the bottom of the tin. Shame we can't buy Quality Street as the new one sounds much better.

Chesntoots · 16/12/2019 22:12

I couldn't figure it out either!!

They sell both plastic tubs and tins in Sainsbury's. The tins are bigger.

Butterfly98 · 16/12/2019 22:26

@rhubarbcrumbles why can't you buy Quality Street? If you're abroad you can order online....

FlamingoAndJohn · 16/12/2019 22:30

80s tins of Quality Street were 2kg but cost the equivalent of £20.

Anyway. Why are you lot opening them already. It’s not Christmas yet
