To be annoyed at Quality Street for sneakily replacing the Toffee Deluxe?

My absolute favourite Quality Street, the toffee deluxe in the shiny brown wrapper (memories!) is no more and has been replaced with a chocolate caramel brownie! How could they? Apparently its sudden demise happened some months ago but I only found out today after opening a tin! At first I was looking frantically for one, then I saw on the side of the tin that it doesn't feature anymore! AIBU to feel cheated? 😠 the replacement is not nice at all btw! What is / was your favourite Quality Street?

I didnt realize this when i bought a Quality Street pouch last week. Pouches are a bit smaller than the tub and its only me and DH You can get the purple ones on their own. Purely Purple Ones.

I remember when the Roses purple one was quite a large chocolate in a sort of half moon shape. Now its a little square.

Had a Roses tub last Christmas and there were only two coffee ones in there. Same with my mums one so not a fluke.

I HATE all the creams!
We need to set up a Mumsnet Swap Shop!!!

Juliette20 · 17/12/2019 15:11

I could happily sit near a tin of QS and not eat one all day, they are absolutely awful.

SilverySurfer · 17/12/2019 16:06

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo's meme is spot on. They are full of palm oil and taste of oily shit so no great loss

FoulMouthedMotherFigure · 17/12/2019 16:19

Eighty posts in and nobody has mentioned the Green Triangle yet? Shock

...Please, please, somebody reassure me that the one and only decent Quality Street sweet is still in the selection!

WriteronaMission · 17/12/2019 16:46

The Green triangle is still there Foul Mouthed.

FoulMouthedMotherFigure · 17/12/2019 16:53

Thank you, WriteronaMission, for that reassurance!

...I remember one Christmas when there were only two in an entire tub. I goin fear of that dreadful experience happening again.

Lookingforpizza · 17/12/2019 16:55

I'm livid about it. And the chocolate brownie thing is disgusting. Truly vile and I'll eat almost anything ffs

@Comefromaway wait, what? A tin of toffee pennies?

Toddlerteaplease · 17/12/2019 18:07

I am absolutely amazed by the Queue in John Lewis for the personalised tins! They have barriers stretching out of the shop!

Comefromaway · 17/12/2019 19:39

Yes, from John Lewis. They will fill a tin with whatever you want, like a pick n mix.

FlamingoAndJohn · 19/12/2019 07:37

I’ve just seen this. The jar of QS in this picture is 1.25kg and costs the equivalent of £17.
If they asked that much today I doubt anyone would pay it.

I've bought a tin this year but it's just not the same as when I was growing up in the late 70s, early 80s! It's not as big and doesn't look half as impressive. I remember it was a BIG deal to have the tin at Christmas. The excitement of knowing the tin was in the house but couldn't be opened until Christmas Eve! Ah, happy memories. And, you're not being unreasonable OP, the toffee deluxe was lovely and the new brownie one is pointless.

I actually have a fond nostalgia for the coffee ones because, as a child, I didn't like them much but they were my nan's favourites so I would think I was doing her a 'favour' by saving them for her!
I miss a 1970s/1980s Christmas!

BlaueLagune · 19/12/2019 08:05

A (sadly plastic) box of Heroes has appeared in our utility room. I had mentioned the demise of the Toffee Deluxe to DH. So at least there will be some chocolates I like now.

BellatrixLestat · 19/12/2019 08:12

More annoyed about the disappearing coffee one from roses Angry

HeIenaDove · 19/12/2019 14:42

bottom left is the Mars Christmas stocking.

HeIenaDove · 19/12/2019 14:50

Oh im wrong its Cadburys. The Mars one is elsewhere on the page.

Spidey66 · 19/12/2019 15:25

Roses are better.

BlaueLagune · 19/12/2019 15:37

I find Roses really disappointing too.

fantasmasgoria1 · 19/12/2019 15:40

I don't bother with any chocolate tubs. I can't stand quality street anyway and would choose roses if I had to. I would rather have a bar of chocolate!

Vellichor · 19/12/2019 15:41

@memaymamo I like the M&S one and it has a coffee chocolate which is my favourite. I went off Roses and Quality Street when the chocolate changed. I

HeIenaDove · 20/12/2019 03:07

I completely forgot you used to be able to get your fave Roses chocolate in individual boxes. I loved the Almond Charm Pity they dont do it anymore.

Sainsbury’s tub is surprisingly decent.

Fans of the purple one — it was originally filled with Brazil nut , that measly hazelnut is no match.

DuchessofWoke · 20/12/2019 03:31

Chocolate has been ruined for me. I still buy it and munch it but with little joy.

It’s such a shame. Does anyone actually know why they ruined chocolate??
