The only one I remember is when I was 12 and I was Snow White. I have no idea whether I ever featured in previous plays. I was a desperately shy child and I remember absolutely hating being Snow White as I was on stage alone a lot. I don't recall any nativities?

I was a mince pie once!

Taytotots · 16/12/2019 00:14

Joseph Hmm (I am female). It was a musical version and none of the boys would do it.

Bombaybunty · 16/12/2019 00:16

I was the angel Gabriel. Only because I was the tallest girl in the class.

MrsMoastyToasty · 16/12/2019 00:22

I was Mary. I remember the head teacher called out various names and asked us to come up to the front in assembly. I thought I'd done some thing naughty (I was a good girl) and was going to be told off in front of the whole school. Then we got told we were going to be in the nativity.

MissElizaBennett · 16/12/2019 00:28

I was never a fan of the nativity play, but my personal nadir was being one half of the sound of a donkey. I had one half of a coconut shell and my friend had the other... We were hidden away behind a pillar of the church and couldn't actually see the 'real' donkey in action, so clopped vigorously through the whole innkeeper scene until a teacher managed to vault 3 rows of pews and remove our coconut. Sad times.

Peasplease21 · 16/12/2019 00:35

Mouse
Jack frost
Tree
Angel/star (involved white sheet & tinsel but unsure which!)

AdalindMeisner · 16/12/2019 00:51

The only one I remember was in year 6 and I was a sand dancer (so basically sand! 😂).

Katinski · 16/12/2019 01:44

I was both a day tree and a night tree as mary and joseph made their journey to bethlehem, so that was 2 costumes. We were quite a little forest of day and night trees and my mum made all our costumes. It was an International School and 3 days before the performance 2 more children were enrolled-and my poor mum was asked to make them costumes too.Shock
I can still remember her tellling me that she could volunteer me for anything as long as it didn't involve crepe paperGrin

allfurcoatnoknickers · 16/12/2019 01:56

I was:
The Narrator (many times)
An angel
The angel Gabriel
Part of the wise men's entourage
A hula dancer
A peacock
Sir Francis Drake (it was a truly bonkers time travel nativity featuring aliens singing starlight express)

allfurcoatnoknickers · 16/12/2019 01:57

WAIT. I was also a French snowman and had to sing a song about how it was cold. Mortifying for a chubby child Sad

Buyitinbamboo · 16/12/2019 02:01

The lead angel but not Gabriel. Got the job cause I was the tallest girl in the class, which was a big deal for me as I was so self conscious of my height. Got to hold the star too.

Made up for the year that half the class were shepherds and had to sit in the audience with tea towels and tights on our heads. No signing...

Notacluetwittwoo · 16/12/2019 02:07

I was a squirrel in our nativity once at primary school... Xmas Confused Not quite sure where I fitted into the original biblical story but I distinctly remember being safety pinned into the costume so much so I couldn’t get out of it on my own.
Also one year I was Father Christmas (I’m female) and I was so proud of myself as it was a central speaking part in the Christmas show... Until I realised I had to wear a fake beard. Boy was I pissed at that. Xmas Angry

ThanksForAllTheFish · 16/12/2019 02:14

I was one of the 30 shepherds (ie all the children that didn’t get a main part). My costume consisted of a bed sheet robe and a checked tea towel head dress. I did get to play the coconut shells during the little donkey song so at least that’s something.

enchantedspleen · 16/12/2019 06:38

I remember being a narrator all the blinking time! I would look longingly at the other kids on the stage and think
... "God, they're rubbish, I could act soooooo much better than them". (Spoiler alert- I couldn't)

Then another year I told the teacher I could play piano when I had been taught the first few bars of Greensleeves. Said poor misguided daft teacher put me on the school piano at another play. It went as well as predicted.

Then my big break! I was finally in a nativity! I would finally show all those plebs what a REAL actor could do!
...I was the best innkeepers wife that church had ever seen.

ForeverBubblegum · 16/12/2019 09:10

Dsis was head star in brownies one, and spent weeks going on about how she was chosen because she is the most beautiful (long blonde hair).

Then at the dress rehearsal one of the back up stars turned up in the most over elaborate, professional looking star costume. The leaders decided it would look stupid have the fancy costume girl following sis in yellow tshirt with tinsel, so they had to swap parts.

Dsis was devastated. As an adult I can see it was a dick move on the part of fancy costume girl's family, and the leaders shouldn't have allowed it. But Dsis had been insufferable, so I was delighted.

Weedsnseeds1 · 18/12/2019 10:03

I was John Somerset's second wife/ narrator.
Not a particularly traditional play, more local history!

Vanillaradio · 18/12/2019 10:14

I was Mary! Basically because I was fairly well behaved and had long dark hair. Also remember being a cloud and a villager in plays in later years.....

Sunflowersok · 18/12/2019 10:23

We used to do ours on our church and I got appointed as the head angel one year. I had to lead all the other angels (about 15 of them??) around the church and through the alter to the benches at the front but I kept leading them the wrong way in the rehearsals so last minute they put me as one of the three kings (with no lines) with two of the boys Grin

Sunflowersok · 18/12/2019 10:26

Also I was in drama group in the first year of high school and we did a play for the harvest festival. Once again I kept messing up so our all too serious drama teacher made me wear a crows outfit and a black wig with a beak and I had to run on the stage and squalk as loud as I could. Well embarrassing I could see the look of confusion on the school face. No one ever found out the crow was me and I’d never admit it so

longwayoff · 18/12/2019 10:40

I was Angel Gabriel, nice wings. 6 years old. 50 years later, the local museum found a bunch of old photos in a storeroom and uploaded them. Couldn't believe it, there we all were. Lovely.

vampirethriller · 18/12/2019 10:44

I was taller than all the boys so I was never allowed a female part. I was a king, a merchant, a Roman soldier and the angel Gabriel because angels aren't male or female so it didn't matterXmas Confused

adaline · 18/12/2019 10:53

I was an angel, a snowflake and one year, the Christmas dragon {don't ask Grin)

SVRT19674 · 18/12/2019 10:55

We didn't have live nativities at school we did them at church. So I was one of the sheppherds and also got chucked out of the temple by Jesus among other randoms...

Alpacathebag · 18/12/2019 11:01

Always in the bloody choir where they stuck everyone they didn't give a part to. I was a narrator once and was chuffed but it turned out to only be two lines before I had to sit down and join in with the bloody singing again.

There were always the same two girls who got the best parts, whether it was the nativity or any other school play. Absolute rubbish.

Spacie · 18/12/2019 11:10

One year I was Mary.
In modern dress (think 1970s)
