The only one I remember is when I was 12 and I was Snow White. I have no idea whether I ever featured in previous plays. I was a desperately shy child and I remember absolutely hating being Snow White as I was on stage alone a lot. I don't recall any nativities?

I was yellow.

Yep, we had to sing the Rainbow song and I was yellow because I was blonde. No angel for me.

WelcomeToGreenvale · 15/12/2019 21:43

Oh I got to be Mary once in the Church nativity play, I was so pleased! Never at school though, I was one of the best readers - in retrospect it's a compliment to have always been the narrator, but at the time it was a kick in the teeth.

Igmum · 15/12/2019 21:43

Innkeeper. Gabriel. All of the kings at one point or another. Narrator. DSis always got to be Mary.

PaperbackBlighter · 15/12/2019 21:47

The narrator

It has the most lines and is, therefore, the best part. The inferior children got to be donkeys and so on.

Mandraki · 15/12/2019 21:47

I was the (lesser known character) of the Jehovah's Witness kid who didn't celebrate Christmas and sat out in the library for 6 weeks while the rest of the kids were rehearsing. The 90s were fun.

midnightmisssuki · 15/12/2019 21:49

Me - nothing as my teachers were racist and I was too brown to be anything, I’m mixed race.

Child - a sheep, then a wiseman this year. She (and I) was so pleased with herself!

Baguetteaboutit · 15/12/2019 21:50

I was a narrator in the first Nativity and Mary in the second.

NeverMindTheBuzzards · 15/12/2019 21:50

I was Mary in nursery. I remember having a meltdown because the doll I'd bought in to be Jesus went missing and no fucking way was I using my best friend's stuffed rabbit instead. Luckily, the doll was found in time!

I don't remember any other nativities, but throughout primary plays in general, I was pretty much guaranteed to be a narrator, apart from one play where I was an ant.

Treaclepie19 · 15/12/2019 21:50

I was an angel in my nursery nativity.
At the end of the performance, the video shows me and my best friend (also angel) tickling each other while the teacher is talking 🙈

IndieTara · 15/12/2019 21:55

I was Joseph!

JellyfishAndShells · 15/12/2019 21:55

I remember having a quite complicated Victorian style bonnet made out of crepe paper, complete with large ribbon bow plus a lantern on a stick. . I suppose I was a villager come to admire the baby ? My friend Helen was Mary and I felt sorry for her that she only had a boring blue headdress and not a glorious red and purple bonnet.

milliefiori · 15/12/2019 21:56

Third king. I had a diva tantrum because King 1 and King 2 got to wear embroidered gold tablecloths as cloaks but I was short and got a nylon pillowcase pinned onto me. I shouted the church down and refused to say my lines. Blush

Lucyccfc68 · 15/12/2019 21:56

I only remember being in one. I must have been about 7 or 8. I was King Herod. I loved being the 'baddy' and remember being booed. It was so much more excited than being Mary or an angel.

ImportantWater · 15/12/2019 21:58

I was Mary aged 6. Apart from that I was always the narrator. Always.

RedSheep73 · 15/12/2019 22:03

A south sea islander. I had no idea what one was and I still gave no idea what the relevance was. I only remember having a shell necklace.

Runkle · 15/12/2019 22:06

I was a lamb. I was told I couldn't be an angel because I didn't have blonde hair Hmm

nonevernotever · 15/12/2019 22:08

I was always a narrator too. And neither school nor Sunday school did costumes for the narrator, so everyone else goethe fun of running around in tablecloths and teatowels or sheets and tinsel and I was stuck in my school uniform. I'm still bitter now!

BingoLittlesUncle · 15/12/2019 22:09

Page to one of the 3 Kings and then narrator.

BenevolentEzza · 15/12/2019 22:09

In my first ever Nativity I was Mary 😊 (preschool)
Then Gabriel (year group equivalent now known as YR)
Then the innkeepers wife (Y1)
Then a shepherd (Y2)
Then a sheep (Y3)
Then a palm tree (Y4)

A FUCKING PALM TREE????!!!

Y5 I was just in the choir...

Can't remember last year of primary. Probably was behind bloody scenes or something 🤬

(It has not escaped my notice that every year my role became a pretty shitty insignificant one)

I must have been the most awful Mary in history Sad

😂

FVFrog · 15/12/2019 22:10

I was a snowflake, back in 1975. My DS was Joseph in his Reception nativity, he has never surpassed this achievement. He is now 23 Grin

faw2009 · 15/12/2019 22:12

I was one of the narrators. I remember having to say something about Mary riding on an ass. The boy next to me told me how to pronounce it 'properly'. To this day I still don't know if I did say it correctly!

Stravapalava · 15/12/2019 22:14

I was Mary 3 years in a row in infants school. I think I was chosen in reception because I was loud and confident. I was supposed to be a sheep in class 1, but Mary was ill, so I stepped in because I knew everyone's lines! In class 2, I was cast as the star, but the girl who was cast as Mary didn't want to do it any more and was desperate to be the star, so the teachers allowed us to swap!

Phphion · 15/12/2019 22:15

I had the dual role of Narrator / Shepherd two years in a row.

Nearly everyone was a Something / Shepherd. Being a sheep farming community with many children who could bring real sheep, the Shepherds' scenes were by far the longest and most involved scenes of the Nativity, with the whole Jesus thing being very much a secondary concern.

The worst role was Gabriel, because that meant you had no sheep.

ItemOneInYourFolder · 15/12/2019 22:15

I was a narrator in y5 (1988) but I was a monk narrating the story with a fellow monk and the devil.
And in Y6 (1989) I was Trig Trog in Trig Trog and the Christmas Children - a merchant caught up in the Christmas story, I had a solo song, and nearly fell arse over as I was wearing very slippy Turkish slippers!

CrazyMeep · 15/12/2019 22:18

I was a French hen.
