To want a Christmas game that fufils the following criteria...

Trewser · 15/12/2019 09:30

Can be played by everyone from age 13 to 86
Can be played while sitting down on the sofa
Can be played by people who aren't board game fans

I'm trying to find something for the 5pm lull in Xmas Day. Ancient and infirm PILS and a 13 year old with the attention span of a gnat. The rest between 17 and 54. About 8 of us.

Pictionary

EmrysAtticus · 15/12/2019 09:32

The name game? Write name of famous person on a post it. Stick it to someone's forehead and they have to guess who it is by asking questions which can only be answered with yes or no

GreenTulips · 15/12/2019 09:33

Taboo
Dobble
5 second game
Articulate - like taboo but quicker

EmrysAtticus · 15/12/2019 09:33

Categories or stop the bus so each person chooses a category such as fish or countries and then a letter of the alphabet is picked randomly. Everyone then has a set time to find one thing for each category which starts with the letter. More points if noone else has the same one as you.

chomalungma · 15/12/2019 09:37

Guess the 'symptom'

Work as a pair - 2 of you go to the GP with a symptom.

The others have to guess what it is.

e.g. The people think they're film stars, they think they're from the 1930's etc...

(Nicked from I'm sorry, I haven't a clue) Grin

Basically dd17 and I love a board game and everyone else hates them. Will look up all the suggestions, thank you.

Can't be Trivial Pursuit as I learned all the answers one Christmas when bored and my family refuse to play it with me.

Linkee? Or Dinkee (the kids version).

EnglishRose1320 · 15/12/2019 09:42

Castquest

The chameleon

The mind

lyralalala · 15/12/2019 09:42

Smartass

Technically a board game, but everyone is involved in every question, there’s debate and shouting out and it can either be played in teams or singly

CharlieTPatteson · 15/12/2019 09:46

Humbug- there are 3 song suggestions and each one has a diff amount of points depending on the popularity of the song. You then hum the song to your team for them to guess.

ineedaholidaynow · 15/12/2019 09:47

Can’t you and DD go and play a board game and let everyone else just slump on the sofa, if that is what they want to do?

chomalungma · 15/12/2019 09:50

or use a Yazoo Grin

Give a famous speech in the style of a duck Grin

Owwlie · 15/12/2019 09:50

We have a similar age ranges and some who hate board games so I’ve got a ‘host your own murder mystery game’. The youngsters can ‘host’ it to keep them more interested.

That is probably what will end up happening but the PILS have requested a 'game or something not tv' Hmm

The sock game. Literally anyone can play it and it's absolutely hilarious

BeBraveAndBeKind · 15/12/2019 09:56

Telestrations. It's a drawn version of the old Chinese whispers game. Everyone has a small wipe clean notepad and pick a card with a starting subject and they write it down. Then they turn the page and draw it. Everyone hands their note books round to the person next to them. That person isn't allowed to turn back the page, they just write what they see. Hand around again and the next person draws what the previous person has written and so on until everyone gets their own book back. Then you take turns showing the contents of your book and points are awarded in a variety of ways. You can have up to eight players.

It's a long explanation for what is quite a fast and funny game. What you think you've drawn clearly, is hardly ever what the next person sees so you end up with all kinds of funny misdirection.

MrsLJ2014 · 15/12/2019 09:57

Was about to recommend The Sock game too!

macpumpkin1 · 15/12/2019 09:57

Pass the Bomb was great as my Grandma with dementia could play it. We loved Family Fortunes as well. My favourite is Settlers of Catan for you and your daughter though.

eryn2001 · 15/12/2019 09:58

Jackbox.
It's a game you buy on your laptop/TV and everyone can join while sitting on the sofa and connecting with their own device such as phone or ipad.
Brilliant, would definitely recommend

StCharlotte · 15/12/2019 09:59

The precursor to "Scategories" I think:I think...

"Town and Country" - doesn't even need a board, just paper and pen. Have a list of categories, e.g.

Town
Country
River
Girl's name
Boy's name
Book
Film
Song
Job
Kitchen implement

Choose a letter, and find an answer to each category beginning with that letter. The job and kitchen implement are where the "fun" comes in as they can be entirely made up.

I'm not selling it very well am I? Grin
